It makes me so happy that it truly feels like Owlcat gets it with Rogue Trader. I played Inquisitor Martyr and it felt like they were taking the cliff notes of 40k and guessing at the rest. Everyone in Inquisitor felt like a caricature, but Rogue Trader feels like a genuine effort to adapt the universe into an RPG and it does extremely right by me.

Sound design is straight awful, plasma guns sound like super soakers and most of conventional weaponry feels like airsoft guns. Enemy models look pretty great tho. I got it on 80% sale and im still not sure if it was worth it. Certainly absolutely dont get it at full price anybody

I went the aristocrat background and gave my RT a three part name thinking it was nice wordy. I was completely unaware that they already had some extra names to tack on which made it beautifully ostentatious. So now she is technically Sofia Lucrezia Orsina Aeos Venria de Vahl af Calixis von Valancius. But you may address her as Lord Captain.

I love this game. I'm 50 hours in, following dogmatic choices for the Emperor. If you have Warhammer 40k knowledge you'll love it even more as Owlcat have worked so hard to make it follow the narrative and not deviate. Superb game and I can't wait to play it through again making different choices

On a Rogue Traders warrant it’s usually a drop of the Emperor's own blood not just his signature. I think I remember a passage where a Lictor or other nid was tasked with getting his blood from a warrant for their evolution. That or a chaos assassin. I can’t remember.

It’s why the original 40K system was called “Rogue trader”. The space marines were troops on RT ships. I ran a RTrpg game and had a cameo by crimson fists as troops the NPC RT could deploy :).

@fernandozavaletabustos205 all great, but Rogue Trader is what I've wanted for almost 20 years. The wars are dope and fun and cool to read about, but the universe is so expansive and deep. I wanna see daily life, see governors, see the men and women on the ground, in the shit, living their lives and dealing with more personal problems. I've seen and read all but that at this point. I'll always love those games, and the DOW games were my favorite before this (mainly nostalgia), but Rogue Trader is IT for me.

I gotta say, I’ve only JUST gotten into all of this, and it’s….it’s a lot. Every time I think I have an idea about something, I watch another video and realize I don’t really have a good idea at all. And I’m overwhelmed, because I don’t know where to look; for example, I’m now on “False Gods” (the Horus Heresy seemed a good place to start), and I haven’t really been paying attention to Abaddon, because I didn’t realize he was like…THE bad guy. Having a place to start is nice. I’d also like to say thanks to you, and the people who have commented their takes on the franchise. If you are interested in learning about 40K, i highly recommend Baldemort, Adeptus Ridiculous, Luetin09, and Bricky. These are great lore channels that break down the setting and explain it in ways that is friendly to newcomes (Luetin tends to get a bit out there with his theories, fair warning. Baldemort is the best for introductory lore and exploring the setting (his fanmade narrations are great, too). Luetin is the best at answering questions and breaking down the world into managable, in depth chunks. And Adeptus Ridiculous and Bricky are best at showing off how wacky and fun the setting really is, even cutting through the grimdark of it all. Other good channels are a Vox in the Void, who narrates some absolutely stellar fan content, Majorkill, who is pretty good in small chunks, but is a bit of a maverick in the community and gets on a lot of people's nerves. And Chapter Master Valreks. Just don't say anything bad about the Imperial Fists around him xD Remembrancer has some gorgeous stories

Thank you for this lore video! It really helps filling out background knowledge. The game is A-Tier imo. It reminds me of those early RPG that are overloaded with information and mechanics that you have to actually read and take into consideration when planning your characters and "how" you play. I really hope RT does well so Owlcat can continue making games in the WH40k universe. A few more patches also wouldn't hurt. :D

I just love the idea of all the shit you would do because you actually understand Warhammer 40K so much. I've been having a really good time with it and I'm like you, I don't normally have the patience for turn-based games. That being said, I picked up baldur's gate 3 and absolutely fell in love with that game. So now I'm giving turn-based games a chance, and I've been really enjoying this one. I was thinking I might stream it at some point soon, I don't think I'll make any gameplay videos or anything like that as my channel is a lore channel and deviating from your main type of content tends to get you punished by the KZbin algorithm.

The game has definitely pulled me into the lore. I was always peripherally aware of 40k and knew the general outlines, but I'd never played wargames or tabletop, so I'd never really participated before. Now I'm thoroughly hooked on the lore. Fair warning: the game is pretty buggy in its current state beyond the third Act, but Owlcat do eventually fix up their initially buggy games, so you can definitely jump in now, as even just the first 2 acts as they are now are quite sold and tons of fun. Just keep regular hard saving and make sure you've got some place back before encountering a game-breaking bug to pick up where you left off.

The game has good mechanics, but is in the background that it does a wonderful job: the decisions you have to take are completely above human and compassion but you often see the worst part of your lenience when it comes to bite you back. If you understand the constant danger that corruption can bring you might deem worth to even have one of your retinue executed for having lost control against their will despite them pleeding for mercy. Truly a lore masterpiece!

Funny enough, Rogue Traders were one of my first introductions to 40k due to a D&D Campaign I'm in. The party my 1st PC (long story) was apart of were from feudal-esk world who were picked up by a Rogue Trader due to a 'prophecy' that his personal psyker foretold. We've been playing since January of this year, and we're still going strong; we're going to be on Session ~35 this coming Sunday!!

I played RT back in the day, it was always my favourite iteration of the 40K TTRPG. I was SO. EXCITED. when the CRPG was announced; I played Owlcat's other games and enjoyed them thoroughly, but hadn't realised that Owlcat's thing is to release a game that is only half-complete and expect players to play-test it. I hit EVERY BUG. It was so frustrating. That said, I loved the first 3 chapters, and once I worked out how to trigger all the quests and whatnot in the 4th and 5th chapters, I enjoyed them as well.

There was this /tg/ story about a campaign of Rogue Trader. So basically there was this planetary governor who were in cahoots with the Tau,... for money. The Rogue Trader and his retinue managed to screw their deal and stole most of the Tau and Governor's loot, and pit them against each other. Governor realized by the time the Tau starts bombarding and Imperial reinforcements were alerted, that the culprit of all this mess was the Rogue Trader. Governor said "You won't get away with this", like a salty victim, in which the Rogue Trader, his mind was occupied with a party he was going to attend in another subsector, looked at his battle battler, "Jeeves, get me away from this", because menial work is beneath him. Not exactly accurate retelling, but the punchline is still the same.

I don't know much of anything about the lore of Warhammer in general....but if you also fall into that camp....worry not this game is still super fun and interesting..so please do not feel like you have to give a rip about any of the history or lore...it's still a fully featured game knowledge would only add to the experience I would say

The game is amazing. My psyker rogue trader is larping hard as a wannabe inquisitor. I even have my own (borrowed) interrogator, a pet xenos and named my ship Tromentum Malorum (yup, i like Watson).

Conflicts may arise but part of what the warrant of trade does is give permission to negotiate, trade, and consort with xenos. Hence, rogue traders are very powerful. The warrant does other things but yeah. Also every rogue trader warrant of trade is signed by the emperor, and a rare few have a drop of his blood on them to seal the signing.

I really enjoy these lore videos. The content is easy to digest and very well researched. But is there a chance you could mix up the background music? I've always felt the Rogue Traders were the Emperor's safeguard against situations were the usual rules would screw over Humanity. What's interesting is from what I understand Warhammer 40,000 was originally a Rogue Trader focused game. The player characters were Rogue Traders commanding armies drawn from their personal forces I ran an loyal Iconoclast former Crime Lord Leader in my run.
