Then electric cars will be banned instead, because the coal burning nuclear facilities that produce energy for those cars pollute the atmosphere 10 times more than fossil fuels. For real, the vehicular combat genre was one of my all-time favorites and now it's completely dead. Occasionally a mediocre indie game will drop on Steam but it'll either be dead on arrival and have no bot support or just plain not be very good. I keep hoping one day it makes a revival.

There are no games like this today because it's all about boring, generic and depressingly lifeless simulation games that are oversaturating the market. It seems most driving-related games try to have elements from simulation games today. Even that Wreckfest game is trying to be more like Forza than Flatout. It's a derby style game, yet it doesn't reward aggressiveness, like Flatout did. Most of the time, it just feels like a Forza game, but with a superior damage system and mediocre car selection. Vehicular combat games would need to be their own thing again to be any good.

This was the paroxysm of Twisted Metal back in the days. You can tell the devs learned a lot from TM and applied it here with expertise and fun. One of my all time favourites, still have my 2nd copy almost pristine.

I recently got this game myself and in my opinion, its the best Car combat game on the PS1 bar none. Yes, even better than the first 2 Twisted Metal games and definitely superior to 3 and 4.

Nope, not really a successor, more of a spin off, and upgraded everything twisted metal left to rot. Technically, a twisted metal remake with all the characters, vehicles and locations are interchangeable since the same teams worked on both, Sony just has the rights, but they aren't doing shit with TM, and GT hasn't done anything with this one

Remember getting this in a pack when I got my PS1, initially I wasn't interested and just wanted to play Spyro, but when I came back to this game I played it way more than any other PSX game except maybe Vigilante 8: Second Offense. Seeing all the areas, exploring as the UFO, learning what environments blew up and how. Would even surf the beach or see where the orca would hit my vehicle too. So much character in that game.

i loved this vehicular combat games back in the day. if you are looking for more to review, definitely give Cel Damage for classic Xbox. it may not seem as fun at first, but once you start unlocking all the bonus content it get suuuuper fun. definitely recommend it.

Well, this is an interesting title. I have vague memories about seeing this game somewhere, but I have never owned or even played it. I will definitely try to get my hands on it. I want to play this! Have you played Roadkill by Midway? I'm a huge fan of the vehicular combat genre, I've played just about every single one that exists, and Roadkill is my favorite out of all of them. Would love to hear your thoughts on it. It's also, to my knowledge, the only open world game in the genre. It was advertised as "GTA meets Twisted Metal" back in the day. There's a lot of lesser-known games in what is already becoming a lesser-known genre (RIP), I hope you'll continue reviewing them occasionally!

Rogue Trip is an interesting game BUT the cash mechanic makes the game more difficult than the average Twisted Metal game. There arent health pickups so you have to collect cash several times, then go to the health station which heals you but its overall an inefficient system. Cash is also used to upgrade your weapons and give extra lives. If that had been directly converted to an Shop mechanic after each level then that would be amazing.

What made this game even more fun was having a Samsung GX TV. having that surround sound and woofer made the sound quality good. Now although that was a rather small and boxy screen anything multiplayer wasn't entirely a fun time. Anything singleplayer you were in for a great time.

@@J0rdan912 True, but like any generation including modern days, developers find creative ways to make the most out of the hardware they had. Most PS1 games I own run just fine, even with the texture warping issues in mind. Games like Crash Bandicoot still look great, even today.

Resolution would only help so much. Framerate might have helped a bit, but even so, the 5th gen was a very experimental period. So many games within the same genres handled and control distinctly, and lots of camera issues and whatnot in a lot of them (now, pretty much everything is streamlined and standardized across the board). Many of them just don't hold up for those reasons. Plus, very ugly and muddy graphics by today's standards. I love it, but I know it's pure nostalgia.

1 year later and it's still the same. No new vehicular warfare games. I used to play rogue trip and Vigilante 8 all the time. Was never a huge fan of twisted metal. Would love to see a proper remake of some of these old games.

Signaltrack is fromsoft. Twisted metal is Demon’s souls and rogue trip is dark souls. The same old story. Sony commissioned a company to make an innovative game. It got successful. Sony takes most of the money cause it’s their commission, the company left to rip their own game into new IP. Their biggest mistake here, they didn’t release it on multiple platforms or on pc
