1991, when I was station at FT Irwin, CA at the National Training Center. We had several ROK officers visiting during one of our rotations to get a feel on how our Training Center ran. I talked to several of them, since I was just got there from a 3 year tour (my 2nd) in Korea.

I went on to do total of 13 years in the ROK, 4 yrs in 2 tours as a soldier and 9 years as a contractor. All either at the DMZ or 10 miles within. Love the ROK and miss it. Got to go back in 2015 for a tour, only a week long.

Nice barracks, I stayed on a ROK Army base for a week in winter 2003, it was brutal. we had hot water for 2hrs a day and no heat.

Mỗi tuần trại này huấn luyện 1 chuyên mục, trong đó có mục đi hành quân 30 km , có vẻ rất vất vả nặng nhọc nhưng so với việc sau này Hàn Quốc ( cùng vời Nhật Bản ) mở rộng lãnh thổ cả ngàn km thì hành quân cả chục km chẳng đáng ăn nhằm gì .

This is a propaganda film made by the Ministry of National Defense. Trust only 50% of that. Instructors are not that kind. The profanity and the shouting are stinging. The food is very not tasty because it is cooked in large quantities. However, trainees are hungry and eat very much. And the propaganda film was made about 10 years ago. ROK forces do not use M-16 rifles in active duty. That includes the scene 20 years ago. The 30km march is very difficult because it is almost mountainous. When they are deployed to troops, 100km marches are frequent.

Serious question: There are not many videos of officers or NCOs shouting or ordering them around. Is that not allowed because they are civilians? or are they just not showing them?

Another serious question: Besides a mental breakdown, can someone actually fail in their mandatory service, and if so, what will happen to them?

If u fail the basic training at the training center, you get recycled and repeat all of that until u are eligible to pass.
