From the perspective of a young Japanese man, going abroad is terrifying. It's not just the language and culture barrier. They will long for home from week one and start avoidind crowds and contact as soon as they meet troublesome situations. LA is clearly a place he can call a home away from home, and explore new and exciting things for himself. He won't be alone. He'll be surrounded by mentors and friendly, competent people. He can take his time to adapt until he can unleash the "Monster of the Reiwa Era". It's not the money. IT'S. NOT. THE. MONEY. It's literally the people, the place, the food, the culture. For me it's clear he's a Dodger.

He's 23, not 13 years old. There are 410,000 Japanese citizens living in the US. Sasaki will survive any city...as long as there are Japanese supermarkets and restaurants. And top Japanese pitchers will almost always be accompanied by a translator and trainer when they move to the MLB. He's never going to be alone wherever he ends up.

Pretty sure he's gonna have way more privacy in the US (as tons of Japanese star players like Ichiro pointed out.)

The Dodgers check all the boxes☑ they have two of his close friends, they are the defending world series champs. They have arguably the deepest and best rotation in baseball. For him to be in that rotation with his two buddies, Snell, Glasnow and possibly Buehler is insane. The Dodgers are deep and he would be crazy not to go there.

It’s so crazy how good we already are on offense, and so to now see us get a bullpen equal to or somehow even greater than our current offensive might is simply incredible. It's pretty clear from this presser: 1) He won't sign before the January signing period, optics matter. 2) It will most likely be a west coast team. Weather, proximity to Japan, cultural assimilation matter. 3) He's aware of the Shohei situation where he wasted away w/ the Angels so it will likely be a competitive team. This leaves most likely Dodgers or Padres w/ a chance he goes to another competive big market team.

Another thing that's in favor for the Dodgers is: the agent said the roki does not take anything for granted, and wants to make sure that he's healthy until he's a free agent and can make a big payday". Since the Dodgers already have or will have a complete pitching staff especially with Rocky sasaki, they can use sasaki sparingly and with the utmost care. San Diego or the Yankees will want to plug and play him right off from opening day! And the agent was also talking about wanting not to say anything about sasaki and darvish's relationship. The agent responding to the reporter that it was quote they want to keep their friendship private". So I don't know what the heck that means? I mean, how well do they know each other outside of the WBC and other sporting events in Japan?? Or are they buddies and hang out and stuff?? I mean you play together and joke around the locker room but then you go home. I mean, I don't need to be with my friend all day long. Just hang out once in a while go to his daughter's wedding have a beer every couple weekends, etc etc... lol. It's not like- hey hey let's hold each other's hand here in San Diego and we can hang out everyday for years. He'll still be just a hour or so away in LA, plus the 13 to 20 games they'll see each other every year. So I call BS on that being in favor to San Diego. Only way I see San Diego getting him would be if roki is dead set on wanting Darvish to mentor him, and that alone he will cherish over everything else that Los Angeles could do for him! Lol Think about it: " no, I'm not going to sign with the Dodgers, I want to go to San Diego cuz I need Darvish to hold my hand while I'm here , and we're going to chill everyday.lmao Darvish is 15 years older than Roki! When Roki is wanting to play fortnite, and wanting to go have a couple beers with the boys after the game, Darvish will be wanting to go to Denny's or shoney's to get the early bird dinner for seniors, then watching Jeopardy on TV. Dodgers are the one team that is acting like they already have a deal in place with Roki. Dodgers historically always get one of the top international free agents. Because they have arguably the strongest academies in South America. But they currently don’t have any of the top 40 international signings for the first time under Friedman. Padres currently have deals with the #20, #38 and #39 free agents. Mets have a deal with the #2 free agent and the Giants with the #1 (not counting Roki). Yankees have a deal with the #10. Dodgers are acting honorably by not making deals with kids they don’t intend to sign. Which means they either have a deal in place with Roki or they are the most honorable organization in the history of baseball

And if it's just travel distance, Seattle and San Francisco is a bit closer to Japan than LA due to the flight path. My suspicion is that Sasaki will avoid both the Dodgers and Padres because they already have 2 Japanese pitchers. Dealing with the U.S. media will be a cakewalk compared to what he's been through this year. They decided to make him the villain to Ohtani's saint (constant comparison). I've followed him starting this year, and the bullying by the media and online commenters in Japan have been just brutal. Basically, he couldn't do anything right. If he pitched well, then it was for the MLB scouts. If he pitched badly, then he was over the hill at the age of 22. When he was out due to injuries, rampant lies were floated, including faking it on the orders of the Dodgers. Then they ragged on him for being mentally weak. The attacks were relentless.

@@jykim3604 interesting, I hope that doesn’t deter him from coming to the dodgers. I think whichever mlb team he goes too will come be pressure to perform and added media attention but in LA Ohtani would deflect a lot of that and also reap the benefits of all of ohtani’s relationships with his sponsors. Anyone who says roki would make less on endorsements then really anywhere else doesn’t understand the influence of ohtani. But imo eventually he will be greater than ohtani, at least as a pitcher. There’s no mistake, this man is the MONSTER 👹

He's soft-spoken but not soft. He's been famous in Japan since highschool years, so he's pretty used to media attention. But he's a bit introverted and has always limited media interviews in Japan. You can find him being interviewed on Chiba Lotte Marines' KZbin channel. FYI, there are about 25-30 Japanese media reporters covering Dodgers right now because of Ohtani...and for some Japanese athletes that is way too much attention on a daily basis.
