The Survival trip becomes a race for water and fire, nothing else seems overly important... once we have those sorted we can go catch a nice fish for the family back home. Hope you enjoyed this trip, something a little different to mix it up.

Here’s some tips for Your fire rubbing, I’m and aboriginal dancer and we use it in our shows (Videos on my channel) . The reason you weren’t getting a cherry is the top stick is hollowing in. I’d cut it off the end and start with a fresh flat end. Use your knife to cut little knicks into the bottom stick hole too create more friction & will stop the squeak. It’s also all about downward pressure try kneeling down on one Knee with foot on the bottom stick and use your shoulders to push down into the stick. You’ll be popping coals under 10 seconds in no time 👍🏾

That’s how I saw it done many years ago. We were taught that we could turn salt water into fresh, by grabbing a bucket of salt water, butting an empty plastic container in it, cling wrap over the bucket and a pebble in the center of the cling wrap. Easy (in theory)
@PatB22
@PatB22 3 жыл бұрын
@@215ILLicit It wasnt productive because of the half ass way he did it lol the sand and dead leaves didnt retain any water. The plastic bag in the hole as well as mentioned in the original comment would have allowed a bunch of water to evaporate and condense on the plastic bag above and then make its way down to the cup.

Showing me stuff I can't experience due to covid. There is tons of variety in your videos so I wouldn't worry about falling into a pattern. Maybe expand your cooking equipment to allow different ways to cook up what you catch? But basically I love your content and always look forward to the next video.

I agree, but i also understand the he has to try challenge himself a bit. The bread and butter of his videos are fishing, camping and cooking on the islands off South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales. But the occasional build projects, kayak live streams, fresh water fishing and now a soft survival challenge throws in a nice change. Rod clearly has a passion for video and photography or he wouldnt bring us this content. So whatever keeps him interested and motivated ill watch.

The pads of the prickly pear are very edible. I love to cook with them. In Mexico they are called nopalitos. Take the whole pad and spear it with a stick lengthwise from where it was attached to the cactus, sing off the spines and lean it against a rock close to the fire. Watch so it doesn’t burn. When the first side is cooked turn it around so the back side can cook also. When finished, peel off the skin and slice into strips or cubes. They are very pleasant flavored.

Nice vid. I've had to drink water out of muddy cow prints once... long story though. Any water is good water when you're thirsty. Prickly pear jam is a treat too. Eating too much raw fruit isn't great, as you found and I hate the super fine prickles, but any moisture is good. At one point in history, the family farm was covered in cactus, until the the catoblastis moth was released. Poisoning did little prior to that. Water, more than food, is life. Nice trout at the end there :) Glad you took us along for the ride. Ta.

I've never seen a fire made with water in a bag how clever of you. Also generating water with bags over tree leaves is ingenious. Yes I know that you didn't just invent it but to remember it and actually use it is great! I think of how many people died and could saved themselves if they just know those two techniques. I'm a desert runner in Arizona and use to go out a lot by myself when I was younger. I still go out on outings but with a couple of close friends that I trust my life to. We always take plenty of fresh water and food to ensure that we are not going to get into a survival situation. Love watching your channel. Stay safe.
