For a synthesizer which analog synthesizers were becoming way out of fashion in 1986, the DCO sound very warm and its attenuator works very effectively. One of the finest synthesizers of the mid-80s.

I have one left over from an 80'sproject I was in. I bought a proteus 1 in 96 to add to it to hear classical piano.........now I'm finally learning to play .....lol.

This synth shines when listened using a stereo loudspeaker system. Don't use headphones, sounds dull and probably you would not consider it worthy to be purchased. Luckily this demo shows the machine in its true glory. Thanks.

I prefer JX-3P AND Alpha Juno to Juno 6/60/106. A killer combo. Original juno is very limited vs alpha! They all sound good of course, but I do far more with my JX-3P and Juno 2 than I could with my Juno 6 (long gone). I also sold my JX-8p which sounds awful next to a 3P or Juno 2 (even though it shares filter with Juno 2 the oscillators are different)

I have one of these and also PG300 programmer, it opens a new world up for this long forgotten gem. Love the Pads reminds me of the early Tangerine Dream tracks.

Where does the PG300 fit on the Juno2? For example the PG200 has a place on top the JX3P.. But how about PG300 on Juno2?
@garyturner52044 жыл бұрын
Most folks put the PG-300 on top of the “Alpha Juno 2” label on the far right end - where there are no buttons or controllers. After I bought my Alpha Juno 1 I quickly upgraded it tot the Alpha Juno 2 for the longer keyboard, velocity and after touch. I loved mine for decades! There are several more modern programmers available if you cannot find a Roland PG-300. There is even an app for iPads so you can tweak the sounds more quickly and easily.
@orangecoals12 жыл бұрын
thanks for that --good to get some extra info comparing these the jx3p sounds awesome nearly always -- but I find with a bit of tweaking you can get incredible lush warm sounds form jx8p - always make sure not overloading the VCA and maybe turn off the chorous -really helps

Yes, I had a JX-3P, to me it sounded more like a Juno-106 with 2 DCOs... there is no other Roland synth that would be comparable with the early Junos (Juno-60/6) soundwise. Maybe the Jupiter-8, but this beast sounds even better :-)

hey u ! you're the best maker of synthesizer's demos !
@orangecoals12 жыл бұрын
glad to see you rate the jx3p - I have one - I think they sound really nice- never played a juno but from the specs I thought they would be similar (but with an extra oscillator) the trick with the jx3p(and jx8p) is not to overload the VCA and use the chorus sparingly (if at all) then you get a very smooth classy roland sound

The filter saturates early and has no auto osc, but the filter's sensibility can be increased so it goes to auto osc, then lowering the vca output avoids saturation while making the filter closer to the Juno6. Right ?

The PG300 uses a MIDI cable from the box out to the Juno in.

I was a Juno 60 and JX3P user around the time the alpha Junos came out and I have to confess I hated them. With hindsight, I guess they weren't that bad! I suppose the presets put me off.

yeah i made plenty of nice pads etc with the 8P but am not a fan of it's oscillators. My JD-800 covers the pads stuff now even though it's digital.

I agree - but there is a strong Roland family sound, even with the J1/J2/MKS-50. I can here some of my JX-3P in here, more than in my MKS-70 tho. The JX8/JX10 sound is much more complex, to my mind maybe more than the Jupiter's (I own a Jupiter 6).

No. Indeed I tried, I made 3-4 patches but without programmer it made me really mad :-D
@orangecoals12 жыл бұрын
many thanks just out of interest have you ever compared jx3p to early junos?
@garyturner52044 жыл бұрын
orangecoals The Roland JX-3P is a digitally controlled 2 oscillators synth. The JX-3P can do very many different sounds that the Alpha Juno cannot. While I love the JX-3P, and you can get a PG-200 programmer, connecting the PG-200 does not use a standard MIDI cable, whereas the Roland Alpha Juno 1 and 2 does use MIDI to connect a PG-300. This ability allows you to record any tweaks on the PG-300 on your MIDI sequencer. :)

Which do you recomend, this Juno Alpha 2 or the Korg Poly800/2??
@AnalogAudio18 жыл бұрын
I would take the Poly-800/II because it has 2 oscillators per voice and it's easier to edit without programmer. And note, an analog synthesizer from Roland is basically more expensive than an analog synth from Korg.
@littlebritain646 жыл бұрын
I own the Poly 800 mkI, raw sound in a good way, but would prefer the Juno 2. More versatile,really.
@georgegeorgio17514 жыл бұрын
AnalogAudio1 Disagree the poly 800 only has 1 filter for all 8 voices
@garyturner52044 жыл бұрын
The Korg Poly-800 was designed as a smaller and more portable performance synth. While it is 8 note polyphonic synth, 49 note keyboard, the filter is very lacking - only one filter, so you have to be careful with what you play on it and how. The Roland Alpha Juno 1 was also a 49 note keyboard, but it has 6 DCOs and 6 filters, which allows you to fully and independently perform 6 notes, with any filter cutting off the sound the was the Korg Poly-800 does.

The oscillators can be the same identical! But the digital control of a voltage on an oscillator and filter and not the same thing done to control an analog potentiometer in an all analog synthesizer. The digital control of a filter or a very precise voltage and done on a scale of 0 to 127.Essa range depends on the resolution for each digital circuit. And gives quality and precision diode variable electric voltage used in the circuit. . The control is performed by an analog potentiometer works with grounding of electrical voltage. Even the button in the same position in the synthesizer 100% analog panel may not sound like it was before. And why certain synthesizers without digital control different sounds with a digital control parameters of filter and oscillators. Ai is the fun in that sitetizadores 70s. The sound sitetizador a 100% analog and never the same. Always be new the other day due to inaccuracy of its controls and analog parameters.
