Thanks, Its been hard finding a good breakdown of this keyboard. All the videos are about alpha 2s, and I have the same LCD issue and 4 "dead" keys. I feel a little better after this one

The keys are pretty easy to clean. The grey membrane under the keys is in 10 or 12 key lengths. So you need to remove enough keys to get to the edge of the length that contains the dead key or keys. Then, you can pull it up and clean the contacts on the board as well as the black carbon contacts on the membrane. I use isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab. It's always worked well for me. The membrane has little rubber studs that you just press back into the corresponding holes on the circuit board when you're done cleaning. The long and the short studs usually go in easily by hand, but the eraser end of a pencil can help push them in as well. Good Luck!

Good job. Personally, I think that there's a case to be made to replace the display with modern technology, perhaps also for aesthetic reasons. As soon as there are people like you, who keep it in its original state.

Honestly, I was tempted to change it to an OLED. A new EPROM chip is really inexpensive. But I really like that keyboard and I use it a lot. So, I chose to make the least intrusive repair. I am currently thinking about trying out a mod for the TR-707, which gives you 7 different electronic drum kits from that era to choose from.

I understand the want to update to a modern OLED display. My preference is to keep my JU1 as original as possible. So I'll be following this guys lead and replace my EL strip...
