When it came into contact with a more advanced culture.. which was completely inevitable.. the Maori had about the best possible situation you could have. Maximum distance, mountainous terrain. Maori were able to mount effective violent resistance, and the British were the most enlightened "colonizers" you could have hoped for... to this day there is democratic representation, and a bunch of other favorable deals. Maher just can't deal with the fact that he's out of touch, and that's he getting old. He lives in his little bubble of white privilege, and can't even relate to anything or anybody outside of that. If he would even try to understand why race is a thing, and why racism is still a thing, he would make more sense. He also completely ignores how lily-white and racist the country music scene has always been and still is, and that 'Lil Nas and Beyonce are still considered outliers in that genre. I was a fan of Bill Maher since Politically Incorrect in the 90s. And I'm telling you, he didn't start acting like this until he got called out on Real Time for saying the N word as a joke in his monologue. He had to apologize cuz there were calls for him to get fired. So the following week on his show Ice Cube set him straight an embarrassed him, told him that - he was getting too comfortable and thought he could just drop the n-word with no problem cuz he was dating black women. Bill Maher never got over that. And his attitude towards blacks has never been the same. His whole show started changing. Suddenly starting to have a whole bunch of conservative guests. Complaining about CRT and Woke and that racism is a thing of the past...etc. Even a lot of his old white and black liberal guests don't even come on the show anymore. His show is so awful now, I can't even watch, It sickens me. You know when Fox News shows highlights of your show and gives it props, something's wrong🤔

As a person on the Autism Spectrum - essentially the closest thing that a white heterosexual male comes to being a minority in the USA - I felt what Roland Martin was saying. What Bill Maher gets wrong here is that the reason why it's such a colossal deal that Beyonce has the #1 country song or that we have a VP who happens to be African American (as well as Indian American), is because minorities in the USA in many cases still very much face obstacles to get to where they can get to. Beyonce's experience is precisely NOT the "norm." She is sadly the exception rather than the rule.

Firstly, it's drivel, not "dribble." We aren't playing basketball here. Secondly, the point is that country music has not traditionally been a genre of music where African Americans have been successful in. The vast majority of country musicians have been white southerners. The reason why it is a big deal that Beyonce broke through that is because neither of us have seen too many American Americans in that business. Whether you like it or not, we don't live in a completely color blind, gender blind, racial blind, disability blind, et cetera society. Yes, the USA isn't nearly as racist as it was two generations ago, but we shouldn't pretend that racial issues don't exist. And that barriers other than ability often hold minorities back.

Hi Roland, I watch and follow your program from "Down-under" Perth Western Australia. Though I have never been to the USA, thanks for being the "VOICE" of black America and Africa.
