To me, the sounds are all just a bonus. Don't forget that this box is also a direct GK to MIDI converter through USB. So, if you have soft synths, or other VSTi's, such as modeled guitars that sound "better" than the ones in the unit itself, you can play those directly into your DAW for recording projects...and maybe even into your laptop for live performance.

when using it in this fashion with the gr55 I noticed increased latency more than using the built-in models in the gr55 console does the gp10 improve on that? or is it still noticeably slower when controlling an external synth?
@carlosjazzpick9 жыл бұрын
While the PCM generators featured in GR-55 is missed, BOSS GP-10 is the only device in its category featuring polyphonic separate 6 strings + 1 stereo full guitar track recording via USB driver, for a total of 7 independent channels of pure efx-less sound, this let you to edit audio in your favorite DAW, re-amp and work free-hands while tweaking and fine tune your GP-10 patches. Also, it goes beyond of the boundaries with the ability of set each string in its own stereo field, which led to multidimensional guitar contemporary atmospheres as is listened in 6:26 and 7:06 46 and 48 Wide Mod CLN / Super MODlate patch in this demo.
@nomepredefinito11742 жыл бұрын
Very true. Great unit. But the stereo thing is not perfectly implemented. If you set an amp or a mono fx in the internal chain your single string panning goes useless. Because amps are mono and there is no parallel chain possibilities, apart from gk line and normal p.u. line.

Having the GR-55, I had planned on getting another GK-3 p/u for a third guitar at $220 (Sweetwater). For another $180 I can get the GP-10 & the GK-3 p/u. Plus I'll be able to use both units at the same time.

No, you really need the divided hex pickup for the guitar modeling to work,

Is this gp10 a noticeable Improvement of quality over the gr55 in any way like sounds or modeling? is it just a slim down version of the gr55 with less features perhaps?
@badoverman2 жыл бұрын
Hi, and thanks for the demo. I think I read that the guitar modeling feature isn’t available if the synth is on, but if the usb to midi feature is applied in poly mode, and a usb host is used to control external synths, can the synth sounds from the GP-10 be played simultaneously while the dry signal from the guitar pickups is sent to a pedalboard, and sub-mixed into an amp? My external synths will be sent to another mixer with it’s own power amp and cabinet, as they were controlled by the pitch to midi from the GP-10/GK-3 and/or a keyboard controller. Thanks

Yes, the tracking is pretty much perfect, it does not do pitch-to-midi, but processes the sounds of the strings directly.

Thanks for doing this, I was abut to pull the trigger, uh the debit card. I have a GR1 and I swear some of these sounds are EXACTLY the same...with modeling added? The GR300 lead was Pat Metheny in a box. I would be more interested in editing these and downloading the "star" patches. Thanks again!
@WayneJoness10 жыл бұрын
Well, pretty none of these patches are the same as the GR1. Your GR1 is based on pitch-to-MIDI, so a computer has to count the pitch of what note you played, then play back a sound from a bank of stored synth waves. The GP-10 does none of this: all the sounds you here are driven directly by the string vibration, so typically latency and pitch tracking accuracy is superior to the older style pitch-to-MIDI.
@markmaxson589710 жыл бұрын
Thanks Wayne, you know your stuff! I know the technology has advanced, rather changed. I was referring to the timbre of the patches, many are the same "type" of sound. The basses, buzzy synths, etc. I see you have quite a few videos on the subject of guitar synths, looking forward to looking at those. Best from Mark

@WayneJoness4 жыл бұрын
@@luapmartin I has been my experience that this will have no effect on latency with synths like the GR-55. With the GP-10, however, since there is no pitch-to-MIDI conversion, the latency is very low for most sounds.

As I said, I use it for things like the acoustic modelling, drop tuning and so on. I also really appreciate the high gain sounds via the Divided pickup. It means I can have a silent guitar live, with hi gain sounds on tap - rather than my P90s buzzing. I'm not that bothered about the synth sounds, as I don't have time to look into them all, but if you sat down with the free software and played around, you could get some fantastic sounds. I just think it's great as it's a fraction the price of a Variax guitar and has all of those sounds on tap. Plus it has the weird tunes too - and a ton of effects and modelling. I've been able to leave my G-System at home as everything I can do on that, I can do on the GP-10. The lack of 'live' knob-twiddling means it's slower to get the sound you like, but once you have it, you're set. I've got it on a pedalboard with a Ditto and a Freeze and an HOF reverb and a boost and I reckon I don't really need anything else. Hope that helps.

well, I WAS going to buy this as it seemed really cool - but frankly, I find 75% of these sounds just annoying... I know these are just factory presets, but still. I looooooove the BOSS GT-100(I owned it but had to sell it for financial reasons due to ill health), and I really *thought* I would dig this, but it's just not "tripping my trigger" like I thought it would. Maybe the GT-100 is just more my thing.

Using an impulse response gives so much more realistic results in simulating other instruments and cabs. These all sound fake, it has no place in a recording session. For the synth patches, I would go with Meris Enzo, has much better sounds than the simple textureless weird sounds this unit offers.
@WayneJoness2 жыл бұрын
I LOVE the Enzo, but I think all these tools have their place. If something inspires you...go for it!

This sounds like garbage compared to the GR-55.. I would just pay the extra cash and go with the real deal..
@WayneJoness10 жыл бұрын
Simply put, there are a lot of things you can do with the GP-10, that are not possible with the GR-55. If you want piano, drums, strings, etc. from you guitar, then the GR-55 is the way to go, But if you want some of the more advanced modeling/signal processing, then the GP-10 is the best choice.
@risingforce8610 жыл бұрын
Your probably right but I have not heard anything out of this unit yet that convinces me of that.. From the few videos I watched the guitar modeling sounded better in the GR-55. I do need the strings and other stuff too so I had no choice but to pay the extra cash. If the GP-10 had even one good string sound instead of the synth I would grab it..
@WayneJoness10 жыл бұрын
risingforce86 I did some side-by-side comparisons when I first got the unit, comparing the GR-55, GP-10 and VG-99. The guitar models are exactly the same, there is no difference. Any modeled sound on the GR-55 can be reproduced on the GP-10, plus the GP-10 adds some of the cooler effects only found on the VG-99, like poly effects, such as polyphonic distortion, and the infinite sustain feature. Plus it has the new oscillator-sync synth engine. But you are correct: there is no string patch. If you want those strings sounds, it is the GR-55 you need.
