Roland Boutique JD-08 Synthesizer: Overview and Jam

In this video we take a look at the new Roland Boutique JD-08, a reimagining of Roland’s behemoth 1990’s digital synth and shrunk down to size whilst packing much of the sound design features of the original, along with expanded polyphony and a new two-part polyphonic sequencer, not available on the original. I go through some patch examples and my favourite features of the JD-08 and explore the two-part polyphonic sequencer. We also pair the JD-08 with the drums from Roland’s TR-08.

This is by far the most powerful polysynth ever made in the history of the world for $400.00. The JD800 is the only synth Roland made that gave us panel access to Roland's 4partial/Time Variant architecture. Nearly all Roland synths had this control in menus, but the JD800 is the only one without a menu. Finally, once again we get tactile control of this type of Roland synthesis. (I wrote a letter to Roland two years ago asking them to re-issue the JD800, while the JD08 is not what I had in mind, I will take it with a smile).

I love how Roland knew the 90s were coming when they released the JD800 but still were stuck in the past. I'm def with them. Hold onto the 80s as long as possible.

FYI not that its important - "..made in '81 to '83.." add 10 more years to your dates. JD-800 was made in the 90's. This synth was a digital 90's wink and a nod to 70-80's synths.

Should be 91 to 96, according to Wikipedia. The Jupiter 8 was produced 81 to 85 though, maybe mixed them up?

Yes You Can: 415.3-466.2 (Hz) Adjusts the overall tuning. The value shown is the frequency of the A4 key (middle A on a piano keyboard).
