Hello Jonny, Thanks for the great video. I was wondering if Roland Micro Cube works for flutes as well. I'll appreciate that if you let me know.

Yes, it does, probably for smaller venues. It has much less power than the Cube Street but most of the same other features.

Timely gear review for me! I have used the MicroCube and was wondering about this. Of course, Roland doesn’t use NAFs for their marketing so this was very helpful.

Thanks Jonny, I love my Roland Cube Street for both the flute and guitar. Has a lot of oomph for such as small package. Sometimes I do need more mic inputs, so I've tested running a small mixing board into it for greater flexibility and it works great that way. I've used mine to play in a few different small venues/charity events and the other performers always rave about it. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for this video! I’m pretty new at playing. I bought a Roland mini out in Tucson and play my NAF’s with the reverb cranked up but wondered what all the other selections were for.

Hey Jonny! I hope you are well :) I like the fact that this speaker can run on batteries. I'm curious if this would work with a handpan mic? Also, curious if there are different options for amps you might recommend currently as this video is a few years old. I am generally playing flutes, handpan (with handpan magnetic mic), singing bowls, chimes, etc... Thank you!
@JonnyLipford

This amp has been replaced by an updated model called the Cube Street 2. It has two mic/instrument inputs, so as long as your handpan mic has a standard 1/4" or XLR plug, you should be all set.

great review , i was always wondering how wind instruments would be amplified in a setting without the PA or electrical outlets.. a question: is there such thing as an amp with multiple inputs for mics, and not just the one? they all seems to be geared towards one for mic and the rest are always inputs for guitar pick up, which i won't use
@JonnyLipford
@JonnyLipford 2 жыл бұрын
Good question! Some amps to have 2 inputs and will be labeled low and high (for impedance). You can plug two mics into one jack with a Y-adaptor, although the mixing will be messy. Guitars yes, I've never tried mixing 2 flutes!

Sorry, I don't have any experience with the MicroCube. I chose the Cube Street for the extra wattage in live performances. I believe the latest version of the MicroCube is a bit more powerful now though.

Hey there! Thanks for tuning in! The flute you refer to is an F# minor made of Port Orford Cedar by JP Gomez of Heartsong Flutes. It is reviewed here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYKwYqVjrLqhptU

Such a wonderful Amp. that runs on battery power. Seems like outside at the Park five watts would not be enough. Sure sounds good and the reverb or what ever they call it seems always better on guitar amps. Peace and Happiness to you. I like the Delay the best on this amp.

What kind of an effect pedal would you recommend for playing NAF-flutes? Loop pedal or delay pedal? I have searched the internet for months and still haven’t found an answer!
@JonnyLipford
@JonnyLipford 2 жыл бұрын
Good question. Thanks for asking! I use the TC Helicon R1 for reverb and delay. I don’t have a loop station but I can give you a tip for how to choose one. I know, it is easy to wander around forever in the choice of electronics. This company, www.sweetwater.com/, is very helpful. They will spend time on the phone with you to analyze your needs.

Thanks for the great review!!! I have an A minor NA flute . I play loops with flutes , chant etc.. I want a lower octave flute that will compliment the A minor I have . Can you please recommend a key that will work for me ? Thanks so much !! Todd

I am assuming you have what is referred to as a mid-range flute in A minor. A Bass A minor or a low D will compliment your flute nicely.

Hello! Here is a link for a good place to start with your meditation flute. Normally, I would recommend the G for starting with this instrument, however you seem to have some experience with woodwinds. An E might be a better choice for a bit lower tone in that case. www.jonnylipfordmusic.com/collections/native-american-style-flutes/products/cedar-concert-native-american-style-flutes-a4-d4

Well, after a couple years of research and experimentation with this subject, I have found a solution that works for me, and may hopefully be beneficial to anybody reading this. Like all of us NAF players, I so wanted the "Canyon Effect!" I have a stairway with a raised ceiling in my home that works nicely, sort of like a mini canyon, but sitting on the stairs isn't comfortable after awhile. So, I bought one of those little amplifier & microphone kits from Charlie over at Blue Bear Flutes. Nice folks! However, the problem with using that is that you have to velcro the mic to whatever flute you're playing. This gets tedious when you want to rotate different flutes. So, I have found a combo that I think I'm going to be pretty happy with. I purchased the Shure SM 58 and microphone stand kit per Jonny's recommendation in his Jump Start mini course. But, instead of the Roland Cube Street EX, which retails for $600 at Sweetwater Music, I opted for the Fishman Loudbox Mini (60 watts!), which is $369 at Amazon. One great thing about this unit is that it has built in Bluetooth for your backing tracks, so your phone/tablet doesn't have to have a wired connection to it, unlike the Roland Cube Street EX. That being said, it is AC only, (this model, anyway), so no battery capability. There is the Fishman Loudbox Mini Charge, which can use batteries, but I'm not familiar with it. For my purposes, I just needed something I could practice with at home, and for about half the cost plus built in Bluetooth, this setup should work out nicely for the foreseeable future. I hope this information helps another flute player researching this topic; it can be a bit of a quest! Thank you Jonny for being the awesome guy you are, and I wish you continued success, good health, and joy for both you and your lovely family.
