Roland Fantom: Using Sub Outputs

here's another trick: when you use the jogwheel, the value increases +1. However, if you press SHIFT+ jogwheel, the value increases +10! :) no more turning the jogwheel like making mayonaise with your finger. works with the inc/dec-keys also

Great tutorial. When I’m playing live, I send the drum tracks to sub 1 and bass to sub 2, giving the sound man full control over the mix.

Thank you! I was wondering how to operate the sub out. From this video my understanding is you can have the effects sent through subs and the dry signal out of the main or vice versa. I’m new to the Fantom world so this helps.

It's worth to mention, that you can route the main output bus to main, sub, main + sub if you want to hear everythink on the sub outputs what is on the main bus. I was searching for it for more than half an hour twice, because I'd forgetten that it is in the Effects Edit menu when I'd found it. :D

Great video. Question for you-is there a way to get that Reverb to either the SUB1 or SUB2 output? There are situations where I need verb on more than one set of outputs. I haven’t been able to figure out how to do this on my RD2000. Wondering if the Fantom offers an option to do that.

How about a video on using the external inputs on the fantom? I want to route a source into the fantom and output to the subs, ideally with a slider assigned to control the output volume. Is this possible? Keep up the good work!

I’m using USB output out to DAW (Logic Pro X). How do you route multi outputs via USB into your DAW? For instance, in my Montage I can separate 8 stereo or 16 mono via USB.

ZT Audio you have sub outs stereo but what about sub out mono or left or right? a piano sound coming out left of the sub and a string sound coming out the right of the sub, is that possible?

Sure ... just assign both sounds to a Sub-Out, and then pan them hard Left and hard Right respectively.

Nope, you must assign a zone as shown in this video. Otherwise, all signal comes from the main outputs.

Can you use the subouts and inputs to create a hardware effects loop? Could you sample the incoming effected sound while doing so? For example, say I wanted to play an internal Fantom sound through a guitar pedal and resample it into the Fantom.

@@ZTAudio thanks for your reply. Most samplers do not allow you to play internal sounds through the output while sampling from external inputs. One issue is the sampling mode would be exclusive from playback mode, and another issue is if there is input monitoring and you are feeding the output to the input, this would cause feedback.

If the piano sound has been routed out the Sub Out 1, what instrument is the reverb coming out of the Main out applied to?

The Reverb in this case is a sort of "global" effect, as if you had a Reverb built in to your mixer. It's applied to whatever tracks/zones you choose, according to whatever amount you set on the Mixer or Zone pages, as shown in the video. The output of the Reverb effect is set to the Main Outputs in this case. So, even though the "dry" signal of the Piano is routed to Sub OUT 1, the "wet" Reverb continues to sound through the Main Output. Turning the Reverb SEND to zero prevents any signal being sent to the Reverb, so no Reverb ends up going to the Main Output.
