Hi Jack! Happy New Year! The Roland Plug-Outs work only with the System-8, System-1 and System-1M. The System-8 will run any plugout, the System -1 and System-1M are limited to simpler plugouts like the SH-101 (monophonic). Fantom EX can run ACB models (all plugouts are ACB) but the ACB models in Fantom are loaded in as a model expansion, not a plugout.

Do NOT reward Roland for creating musical instruments YOU WILL NOT OWN. Do not buy subscription based instruments if you value yourselves as consumers and rightful owners of the stuff you *purchase*, no matter how shiny the toy is. There are always amazing alternatives out there - go reward them instead.

Here are a few things to keep in mind: 1. From Roland's website: "GALAXIAS is available exclusively with Roland Cloud Ultimate membership". Done with your membership? Kiss your Galaxia license goodbye. 2. A lifetime key is NOT ownership. From Roland's TOS: "Roland continues to offer the applicable Lifetime Membership Keys to users through the Roland Cloud Service. For clarity, references to “lifetime” or the “life of the Account holder” under this Agreement mean the natural life of the individual who registered for the Account, and such rights are not transferable, descendible, or inheritable. You do not need a Subscription to purchase a Lifetime Membership Key. .. . . If you remove, cancel or terminate your Account, or if your Account is terminated by Roland for violation of the Terms of Use or other policies or conditions provided to you, you will not be able to use the Lifetime Membership Keys you have purchased. There will be no refunds." So it's NOT yours, you cannot sell it, you cannot give it, and if Roland one day decides it's done with the cloud, or with you, kiss your "lifetime" key goodbye. You can do the same thing if you have akai VIP 3..I've been doing this for ages. But where VIP beats it is you can layer any plugin not just Roland. Also you can have 8 layers plus you can use any FX plugin and it can be done in standalone or as a vst.

There are VST hosts allowing you to program every type of VST layering or splitting. I use GigPerformer, but I know Cantabile and Camelot that work perfectly well. You can do everything you want, including automation with your midi controller resources (buttons, potentiometers, faders). With all the VSTs you own.

The only good thing about Roland Cloud to me is that you CAN buy lifetime licenses to most things. So I have a Juno-X and wanted the Jupiter-8 expansion permanently, spent $200 and now just have that. It irks me that Galaxias isn't the same and can only be had if you have the $200/year subscription...admittedly it's super powerful and probably is worth the price.

Being able to "rent" a massive collection of synths would make a lot of sense... if you couldn't already just buy the Arturia V Collection for not a ton of money and own the software. Yes, they're not the same, but renting software is a no-go for a lot of people. You can buy all the Roland stuff, but it'd cost a massive amount of money, unlike the V Collection. However, if you're broke and you want to make an album, I could say where renting is more affordable in the short term. Or if you're a business, renting might work.

Another note - The Roland Jupiter 8 uses like four times the CPU as the Arturia version. To my ears, they're comparable in terms of sound, but I might give a slight edge to the Roland version... but at 4 times the CPU, I'd still prefer the Arturia, as a budget-conscious musician,

Fantom doesn't support plugout, yet. Currurently only system 1, system 1m and system 8 support hardware plugout.

Great shout and agreed. I actually thought that’s what this was initially. That’s the only way a subscription service works for me, include the controller with X length of contract or something. A decent premium controller. With the hardware to run the software built in if the heavy CPU usage is still the same haha!
