I have been playing the Go Keys 5. I recommend downloading the full user manual to learn all the features of this great keyboard. I have been using headphones because the onboard speakers are not robust enough for this great keyboard. This keyboard is a joy to play and I am discovering new sounds and features all the time.

Hey Jeremy, I always hear the polyphony mentioned and how it can cause issues with more complex pieces, but I never see anyone actually show what that means or examples of it being a problem. I would love it if you could show that off in a video. Like by showing a piece on a high polyphony keyboard, and then showing the same piece on a low polyphony keyboard to demonstrate "note dropouts" for those of us who don't have experience with the issue.

I guess the limit only occurs when you are playing with 10 fingers, use chords massively and use the sustain pedal where you should hear sustaine sounds as well as actual played notes. And drums in the background, … I guess you need to play like Jeremy to see the difference. But i also want to hear the difference as i don’t know how much is enough 16? 32? 64?
@rahardАй бұрын
when you record a song with MIDI in your arrangement, you may need many notes at the same time (for each channel, for example). hence, the need for polyphony.

I tried the go keys 5 in the music stored the other day, and no doubt it has the best sound engine among all the keyboards of this price range. I'd even go as far to say that some of the voices (such as EP and strings) are better than those on my Yamaha CK61, which is twice as expensive. Too bad that I don't like the feeling of the keyboard action.

Kudos to Roland for making an affordable keyboard that isn't utter trash. All they need to make is a 76-key version. All budget keyboards like PSREs and CTX are so toyish and horrible. Yamaha really needs to stop recycling and facelifting their early 90s keyboards and start making the PSRE decent and appropriate at this modern times. I own a EW425 and it's based on E473 and the other sounds like electric guitars were annoying. Almost all Super Articulation Lite is muffled like a low bit rate MP3 files. Style controls are limited (Can't intro again). No mixer when changing the voices. I hope in E473 they will adress the problems especially in sound quality and features.

How does this compare to the Casio CTS500 or the yamaha CK61?
@davidmeo15 ай бұрын
This is a good review. On the plus side the Roland Zen Core sounds are professional quality Yamaha can't compete and any Casio I've heard can't compete with Roland either. End of comparison, the most important thing is sound quality. Would have like to hear a sound comparison of Go Key 3 vs 5 speakers. This is the best Piano demo for Go Keys 3/5 I've heard, was this through the audio out (likely) or a mic to the speakers? The Zen core sounds are incredible but how well the piano sounds is the baseline to compare. One thing I don't like is the headphone output has a plastic ring gap its a bad mechanical design the audio jack is smaller than the hole in the housing. I'm trying to decide Go Keys 3 vs 5. The sound engines are identical, but practicing vocals and better speakers and 1/4 audio outs count. First review that mentioned half pedaling for Go Keys 3/5, worth getting the DP10 pedal for that reason. Roland advertises 128 polyphony not 256 but 128 is plenty and I believe other video mentions possible 256. Polyphony matters using sustain pedel and fast compositions.
@davidmeo12 ай бұрын
Ultimately I did get the go keys 3 but decided to not keep it. I need to have a great piano sound, the Zen core can do a lot of things but not a great piano. Its a very powerful synthesizer that creates an at best ok piano sound. I have an FP 30X which has the supernatural sound engine with BFM chip. The Roland FP30X costs $700 now and the GO Keys 5 is $500. I value the acoustic sound over the synthesizer so I can't justify the go keys 5 I think the go keys 3 is the way to go if you're on a budget and doing mostly synthesizer sounds. I found one Guitar Center that had the Go Keys so I could compare vs other keyboards .

I try and get by but will never be able to play full chords with my hand. I was thinking can you answer one question or do one short video on this. I have never seen anyone talk about the proper distance you should be from the piano height wise. Weather standing or sitting. I play guitar and many people show proper distance and wrist movements. I was curious on if I should sit or stand higher or be level with the keyboard.

Great video!! 👍 Jeremy, could you help me choose MIDI-keyboard? I love to experiment with sound and play different instruments on my keyboard. I haven't had any MIDI-keyboard yet, only had (and still have) training 61 keyboard, so I'm planning to dive into MIDI world. So I have 3 keyboards that I have an eye on: Arturia Keylab Essential 61 MK3(1) (I've seen your video, it's great); M-Audio Oxygen Pro 61(2); Novation Launchkey 61 MK3(3). What I like about 1: lots of positive reviews, looks great, has a lot of different sounds, relatively new. What I don't like about 1: only 8 pads (is it enough?), pads on the left and sliders on the right (some people wrote that this keyboard is better for left-handed people, but I'm right-handed) What I like about 2: a lot of pads, has all of 1-st keyboard functions and integrates with every DAW easily. What I don't like about 2: lack of information about keyboard quality. What I like about 3: a lot of pads. What I don't like about 3: lack of information too. Which one would you recommend? I really can't decide because I'm only able to choose them online and order one. Thank you in advance!! ❤😊

I got a Roland FP-30X early this year and later, to have a portable available, a Casio CT-S1. The Roland I got after considerable research little actual hands-on. I was intermediate beginner a long time ago and I immediately recognized the feel of an acoustic piano with Roland. It was harder to find somewhere I could try out the 61-key keyboards but I eventually was able to at a Guitar Center store when I was out of town. I was able to play the Casio CT-S400 and a Roland GO:Key3. The action of the Roland did not impress me even though it was a little more weighted than the Casio. The sound didn't impress me in comparison that much either. My budget would have covered the GO-Keys but I ultimately ordered the CT-S1. My principal consideration is acoustic piano emulation and I really don't want any extraneous features. The point I think I am making is that people have to consider their purposes along with their budget.

I ordered a Casio ct-s500 yesterday. I hesitated a lot between the ct-s500 and the go keys 5. This keyboard will be a portable solution next to the Roland FP-30X that I bought a few weeks ago. I'm an enthusiastic beginner, I don't think I would have used the microphone input or all the possibilities of the cloud. What's more, the ct-s500 costs €290 and the go keys 5 costs €480 with partition support. They're not in the same price bracket.

I'm oversaturated with piano reviews. I'm old, and want to learn piano. But I like the idea of a lot of sounds. Beyond that, should I be learning with 88 keys, and the more traditional weights or is a keyboard like this just fine? It's very attractive price and capabilities makes me think it will be more than enough.
@JackStacks_15 ай бұрын
It all depends really. For me personally, I am in a band and I often play chords and some melodies and I don’t really need 88 keys. However, if you’re playing for yourself at home it will probably be beneficial. Also, weighted keys and unweighted keys come down to preference. Most pianos will have weighted keys, so if that’s what you eventually want to have then get them.

Jeremy, Thank you for all your great reviews. I played Trumpet semiprofessionally, and due to my disabilities, will probably never play close to the level I once had. Due to my limitations, a fully weighted keyboard is probably out of the question for me. These new Roland keyboards are intriguing. Because of my situation, whatever I buy, will have to due for a long time. A few people have mentioned the lack of a multi track recorder might or might not be a deal breaker for me. To be honest the new $199.99 Yamaha keyboard you reviewed last month, may have features I may never fully utilize. It seems that the differences between the go keys 3 & 5 are not significant for the price difference. A $50 to $75 increase would make sense. Advice?

Excellent review video as always, Jeremy. Aren't these keyboards incredible, especially for the price? Particularly the 5 with the added features which are pretty much desirable functions we wished for the previous keyboards and the 3, including my original Go:Keys and the CT-S1. This is definitely my next keyboard. Roland stated that the made the keyboard action stiffer to be halfway between most standard semi weighted and fully weighted keys. After this, there pretty much only two keyboards I would want to get. Primarily, the Yamaha CK61 and a Roland RD 08/88 when I need and want 88 fully weighted keys. The Go:Keys 5 is essentially like an FP-E50 without the 88 fully weighted keys, the Supernatural Acoustic and Electric piano sounds for half the price. And the stiffer key action makes it a great compromise, especially if you aren't one that must have fully weighted keys, which is fine with me.

Hello Sir ! Thanks for uploading this video. I'm a middle aged man and just started learning to play digital piano. I'm not sure which one to buy between Roland Go Keys 5 and Yamaha DGX 670 . My fingers and Palm are small in size. My budget is US Dollar 1000 . As Yamaha DGX 670 has many features it would inspire playing for many more years and no need to substitute another digital piano as learning progresses,thus cost savings in my opinion. But if Roland Go Keys 5 helps learning significantly easier and learning curve becomes shorter then I would definitely buy Roland Go Keys 5 . So I need your suggestion in this regard. Greetings from Kathmandu, Nepal 🇳🇵🙏❤️ .

GoKeys does not make learning easier or faster. No keyboard features make learning faster. You simply have to practice a lot to train your brain. There are no magic shortcuts to reduce learning curve. Some available training is better than others - depends on what your piano goals are though.

I just bought a Go Keys 5 and it is an amazing instrument for sure, but I have noticed pretty severe distortion/vibrations in the built in speakers playing using certain patches even at normal playing volume. I am wondering if this is an issue with my keyboard/manufacturing batch or if this IS how the speakers do sound (construction/design issue). I'm wondering if Mr. See noticed this when reviewing the keyboard?

Roland Cloud.

So essentially, if all someone wants is a reasonably priced Keyboard to simply mess about on then go for the Go:Keys3, but if it’s going to be used for anything more serious than this with the option to plug it into an amp or the desk at any stage, then the Go:Keys5 would be the better choice between the two. Therefore as a guitarist and Bassist that wants something reasonably cheap that can be used by a gigging musician who wants to expand their tonal options at either gigs or simply recording, then the Go:Keys5 does look like a reasonable option. One question, are there any suitable patches on the 5 to emulate the sound of Bagpipes or Northumbrian Pipes ? As a British folk Musician this is a sound I would be looking for, for any keyboard to produce. And maybe some of the classic late 70’s early 80’ Tubeway Army/Gary Numan thing, to add another string to that keyboard bow.

How does multitrack recording work on this keyboard? Does it need to be hooked up to a computer? My current keyboard is really old, so I'm looking for a replacement. It's a Casio WK7600 with a 17-track recorder, which facilitates convenient music creation. How does the Roland Go Keys 5 compare, in terms of ease of building a song track by track? Also, is there a 76-key version of the Roland Go Keys?

The FP-E50 is the big brother to this guy. They also came out with Juno-D which has 61, 76, and 88 key versions. Multitrack recording might not be the strength of this unit.

4:12 to be fair, Korg Kross 2 also have expandable sounds which costs a little bit more than this Roland Go keys

Sweetwater prices. Kross 2 $929. GoKeys 3, $349. "Costs a little more"? That's almost 3X.

@@JeremySee Damn, you're right. My bad. It's impressive how the price went up in a couple of years. I was outdated local pages here at chile because none have it on stock
