GOT MINE DELIVERED YESTERDAY! I was there, for once, to pick it up immediately from the porch and thank the UPS guy for lugging such a heavy synthesizer. 😅

Best demo I’ve heard of this boutique by far.

Ok, this one aspires 90s in every bit of its architecture. So you either like or hate its sound. It is a great synth but I don't get why Roland didn't include the Sound Expansions. It would definitely have benefitted from more wave forms although it is still a good synth. To me the boutique format is still fine for sound design, not as it was the case with the JX-08 whose knobs and distances between elements I found too tiny to work with.

I really wish Roland would have called it the JD-08 but included the extra waveforms and features from the JD-990. Even just the extra waveforms would have been such a welcome addition.

@@t.n.3819 And I guess adding the extra waveforms shouldn't have been a challenge at all guven todays cheap processing power and storage.

i love these patches! gonna buy them. i really want to learn how to make my own patches but i have no idea what i’m doing and the manual is confusing and annoying to use on the phone do you have any suggestions of the best way for me to learn?

I love the sounds of this synth but I just bought me a JX08. Do you know if I can recreate sounds of the JD to a close enough proximation on the JX?
@limbicbits2 жыл бұрын
Tldr version: It won't be possible. If any, you can get a rough approximation of some the here displayed patches. longer explanation: In this direction, it will most likely be impossible unless you're only trying to recreate presets that are based on typical analog waveforms. The reason is that JD-08 is a sample-based synthesizer and many of the presets in this video use sampled strings, pianos etc. Also the - in today's perspective - reduced sounding analogue waveforms have a very particular taste you can't emulate easily with a synth whose function is to recreate the clean richness of true analogue waveforms.

Hey quick question, are banks A and B still the original presets or are they overwritten aswell?
@DiamondWoodStudios Жыл бұрын
Sounds lovely by the way 🔥
@limbicbits Жыл бұрын
Bank A and B are the original presets as how they come with the unit (factory settings). That's one of the main reasons why I've decided to use Bank D for my sound pack: You will overwrite Bank A and B with the same presets. Usually, it won't matter but if you have made changes to the sounds in one of the Banks, better save them first, before installing this sound pack

So many synths. This doesn't really jump out at me. At some point they'll all either sound too similar or make the same exact sounds. At this point with all the options at cheaper prices for hardware and so many VSTs, it's probably better to invest in a few big boy synths and leave the rest up to software.
@limbicbits2 жыл бұрын
In this case, I’ve to agree. The JD is great if you dig the sound (engine) and don’t want to use a computer. But to me it can easily be replaced by software unlike, for example, a MEGAfm or an ob6
@t.n.38192 жыл бұрын
At least this one is proudly digital instead of yet another analogue (or VA) poly. I really wish Roland would give us follow-ups to the JD-Xi and JD-XA series.

@@limbicbits Megadrive sounds can absolutely be done in software. There's a bunch of plugins these days, but if you're looking for bit-accuracy against the actual YM2612 chip in the Megadrive, Chipsynth MD is unbeatable. You definitely don't need hardware.
@limbicbits2 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisLoos1 I respectfully disagree here. There's still a significant gap between the software emulations (and I used the Chipsynth MD which is not bad at all), and the MEGAfm. The level of artifacts and noise from the MEGAfm is just not there which is - afaik - also due to a very roughly behaving amp and not only caused by the chip itself. I don't even know if that behaviour has been on the original mega drive because I seriously can't think of a mass market product with such a noisy audio output (I do like it a lot, though). Maybe you'd like to give the MEGAfm a try?
