This was my first analog synth, purchased for $200 in 1990. Of my 40 or so synthesizers the Juno-6 is still my favourite and most used instrument. Only having one oscillator isn't a limitation, just part of the character.

nice video. i've had mine for about 10 years now and bought a truckload of gear since, including some "bigger" classics, but the juno6 is irreplaceable due to its tonal clarity and punch. granted, it is somewhat limited, but very effectively so. one of the all time greats in my book.

I bought a cheap Roland tr626 on eBay. It's a cheesy drum machine but it has the tempo sync out on it and midi. The rim shot triggers the arp notes, so you can program different arp patterns that are midi synced. NOTE: With the temp sync plugged it it disables the arp tempo on the Juno. Still, highly recommended and fairly cheap addition to you Juno.

The Juno 6 will also work with the synch option of the KORG monotribe BTW.

it is a rather basic synth but there is something about the depth and width of its sound that is just eternally valid and irreplaceable. I am lusting after the new OB6 and/or Prophet 6 for our studio, but in all honesty, while they have so much more to offer in terms of features, they just do not have that charisma, punch and sonic clarity that the Juno 6 offers. its the warmth with that bit of sweet acid that I have not seen anywhere yet. god knows what went on in japan in the early 80s..

I love my Juno 6, unfortunately after 30 years, the battery died. Got it replaced but the sounds are all gone. I'm trying to restore them manually, but was wondering if there was an easier way to do this. Someone suggested a Roland Juno 6 website that allows you to run the sound from the computer straight into the Roland, but not sure how that works. Anyone else gone through this?
@soundmannh97907 жыл бұрын
Do you mean you have a Juno-106 or Juno-60? The Juno-6 does not have presets.
@digitalstringsmedia4 жыл бұрын
Well the juno 6 has no presets, so no battery. you must mean Juno 60. but unless it has a cassette data jack like the AX80, OBXA, or others im not sure what to tell you. im sure theres plenty of info on the web. check Gear Slutz forums

Can't help but notice that ESQ-1 in the back. Plastic case model right? Love those synths to death. Own 2 of em and plan on getting a VFX, and getting another Mirage. The Juno 6 though is quite something. In the market for one and I gotta say that I'm impressed with what it can do and you've got every reason to be proud aha. Would love to hear your patches for the ESQ-1 though if you've made any.

I just got an AX-80, which I see back there, and I hear people often compare it to the Juno series. How do you think the two compare?
@digitalstringsmedia4 жыл бұрын
not close IMO, AX80 has more than double the modulation capabilities, 2 more voices, and 10 more oscillators. if i could only choose 1 i would go AX80, Maybe someday ill mod mine to make it stereo. Ive already done that to a memorymoog and an OBXA

I would say yes but its not the cheapest...if you want a basic beginner cheap try a JUNO 2 a bit harder to program, but once you master it sell it and save up for a JU-6 my very first analog was an AKAI AX-80 and i still think it was a good choice.... with an external analog chorus it can make some nice strings also!!

Great synth, and thanks for posting the video but.. You are confusing the genre DUB with DUBstep. The bass wobble you are trying to emulate was not present in the original dub music, which has been around much much longer.

it doesnt sound like it. l like to leave the release up so the notes ring out like a reverb. also i use the on-board chorus alot sounds thicker for pads and strings.
@chrispopovski87688 жыл бұрын
+DigitalStrings Actually, to my ears it did sound like a touch of reverb. That's incredible that it sounds so massive dry. I just came across a great deal on one and your demo was the one that sold me on it. It means I may have to let go of my DSS-1 though. By the way, do you know about the Juno 66 upgrade? I'll be doing it 100%. Makes it so powerful.
@digitalstringsmedia8 жыл бұрын
+Chris Popovski ya it sounds pretty good dry. if i had reverb you would know it would be very large. i think im just recording it straight into the dat recorder. sometimes the mic is on when im talking and you can hear the synth through my speakers. and no i didnt know about the upgrade, ive heard of the kiwi six and the upgrade for the prophet600 (which i need to make videos for when i get time) but i guess i havent been paying attention lol.

Im sure at some point wobble bass was used in a DUB track. Dubstep didnt invent the wobble. You can hear that stuff in 80s techno tracks and you hear it alot in 90s jungle.
@Ruimagro099 жыл бұрын
That is a true analog not a diigital one so it has a VCO VOLTAGE CONTROL OSCILATOR and not a DCO believe it makes a big difference shapping the sound
@ENSONIQ59 жыл бұрын
+Rui Magro Not so. Juno6 has a DCO (digitally controlled oscillator), not a VCO. Gives it stability and instantly-available awesomeness (no warm-up needed). The inherent instability of VCOs is a benefit in multi-oscillator synths where they can play against each other creating organic, almost acoustic 'warmth', but IMO the stability of the Juno6's DCO is one of its best points. It can be a little flat sounding, hence the addition of the (brilliant) chorus effect to add a bit of warmth. I love my JU-6, very difficult to get a bad sound out of it! BTW, nice demo DigitalStrings
@riseofthemachine26238 жыл бұрын
+Rui Magro The Juno-6 & Juno-60s both had a single DCO. The Roland Chorus makes it sound like two. Same with the Juno-106.
@Fireblaze156 жыл бұрын
DCO is analog as long as rest of the signal path is analog as well.

i think its a MONO instrument so not sure why you are running 2 x Audio Outs ?? How did you achieve the SYNCOPATED rhythm in the first demostration of the Arpeggiator ?? i thought it could only perform non-broken strings of (say) quavers ??
@dsandwhich0011 жыл бұрын
The chorus button is sort of a stereo effect. It thickens up the sound.
@monsterjazzlicks10 жыл бұрын
James Lederman I mean Mono as in it not being Stereo !! Not (as you suggest) Monophonic as in Polyphony. If I had meant the latter then I would have obviously used the appropriate terminology.
@monsterjazzlicks10 жыл бұрын
James Lederman Anyway, yes, that's my original question. It has a Hi and Lo OUTPUTS (which does not mean 'stereo' !).
@monsterjazzlicks10 жыл бұрын
Yep, the Chorus is in Stereo and that's what was confusing me about the Outputs also.
