First time I’ve heard a really good demo of the Zencore engine sound generation. Usually people just fiddle about with weird sounds, arpeggiation or just hold a few keys down for ages

I always wish the makers of product demos such as this would list what the keyboard is being played through and if there are any "enhancements" to the sound such as is the keyboard MIDI'ed to another keyboard or are the sounds recorded and layered.

Nice. The official demos just highlight the most obnoxious dance music sounds, good to hear what the tasteful patches sound like.

great demo! I wonder what's the memory limits of the Juno D sequencer? Is it possible to compose a 5 mins soundtrack without reaching the limits? or even a 3 mins song?
@GeorgyHeskyАй бұрын
Hi there. The sequencer is limit only to 64 bars to sequence
@Jason75913Ай бұрын
You are meant to separate the verse, bridge, chorus, etc., into loops and que them as you go along for longer copositions.

This new Juno-D came to replace Juno-DS and XPS-30

D6/7/8 has 8 part scenes, and DS has 16 part. Not a replacement.

@@Acrimonious_Snaketho the DS can use only 3 MFXs and the D can use 7. Depending on the way you use or arrange it may be an advantage or disadvantage. I, as a DS76 owner, had numerous times which I wanted more MFX available but some others in which the superior number of parts were better than having 7 MFX, to mention the Juno D capability. I'm sticking to my DS for its keybed tho
@Acrimonious_Snake7 күн бұрын
@SamStormsKBD The sequencer of the JunoDS is much better. New Juno D cannot record without quantization, the sequencer is much simpler.

I don't know all the differences, but the inclusion of the ZenCore engine is pretty big IMO. Being able to design your own presets (if you've got another ZenCore device or the ZenologyPro VST) is a pretty cool feature I'd say
@shvrdavid2 ай бұрын
@@_mickmccarthy You can make and import your own sounds for the DS, so that is basically a moot point.... Keep in mind that the DS was abandoned by Roland within 5 years of release.... Is the Juno D next??? Or will we get a DS, then quickly abandon that? .... The only real difference between the Juno D and the DS, is the the DS/XPS engine has long since been abandoned by Roland, and replaced with another engine they want you to pay for monthly on the cloud..... Other than that, it is basically no different than a DS. If you already own Juno DS, the Juno D is basically useless in anyone's setup. If you want to stay Roland for the Zencore pay to play crap, they have the MC groove boxes that do Zencore, for far less. You can find the MC101, MC707, used for sale all the time, both Zencore, for a reason.. Guess why they flood the market? Keep in mind what the Juno D actually offers. Like poly aftertouch, MPE support, high polyphony, etc.... Oh wait a min, scratch that.... What was I thinking................. All the Juno offers is another sound engine, that the DS can already do close enough anyway........ In a sea of far superior synths in the market.... I still have own a DS88 I purchased when they first came out, after playing one and liking the key bed. It is in my main non aftertouch key bed in my main stand, and use it all the time... The Juno D doesn't offer anything over it..... Other than the DS still has things they never fixed in the firmware because they abandoned it, there is little difference.... I don't see the Juno D being any different in that regard. It to will be abandoned too, and only offers a different engine than the DS...

Incorrect.
@Jason75913Ай бұрын
@@shvrdavid They updated it up to where they were willing within the constraints of its "quad-i486" CPU. "Abandoned"? It remained the lower cost alternative to Yamaha MOXF and MODX and the top seller after those Yamaha 'boards. It has only been "updated" so they can sell you sound packs via Roland Cloud. "superior synths" That cost more or are for a completely different group of people. Irrelevant. DS and D6/7/8 compete with, and obliterate, the Yamaha MX and Korg Kross2 at piano and most acoustic sounds. They also boast much better performance controls and workflow.

@mjwalters8394 and unreasonably lo-fi in the Fantoms versus Korg Krome EX and Nautilus, and versus the Yamaha MODX and Montage All of the Juno workstations rock hard, but are, up to a great extent, mostly samey. Some folks are posting, "oh sh1t! Killer new sounds!" which is simply extreme exaggeration (and no one shows off the Zen-Core exclusive patches anyway), is misleading, and will piss off people who fall for it and later find out that they were trolled. That said, the _features_ on both Juno-DS and 2024 Juno-D are pretty great for entry-level workstations. Not as feature rich as the Korg Kross2, but the two Junos are easier to use, boast far better keybeds (make much better master keyboards, too) and sound better in most comparable presets versus the Korg. I prefer the DS' slightly different sequencer and much greater patch memory. I've already got an MC-707 for Zen-Core anyway, and the advantages of Zen-Core really show when you design your own patches. Roland leaves next to nothing in terms of factory presets that are unique to Zen-Core (and no one knows which presets they are and won't show them off on this platform) as they prefer to sell Zen-Core presets to you instead. They know very few of us delve into deep sound design, and they can't resell the same 30-year-old sounds forever. My one gripe is the lo-fi sample ROM they are sticking to for all their products. However, RD-88 does get a few presets with much higher fidelity samples than other Zen-Core products that are exclusive to that RD. Fantom-0 gets the free "Vintage Synth" EXZ expansion that includes higher fidelity samples of some classic synths (you have to install that yourself, but at least it is free, if only for the Fantom-0 line - for Juno-D, you have to pay for each of the expansions that are free for Fantom-0).
