it's nice that you show how you unpack and connect the new device, because we can see that it works "plug and play" immediately.

I guess by now you probably know that there is a Bluetooth version of the korg keyboard and a ble to midi adapter to connect to the back of the Roland MC101 that simplifies the setup considerably! Nice to see the size comparison. Thanks for your video!

Just a quick heads up to make this even easier, on the Utility menu, keep scrolling until you get to Auto Ch and set it to Ch1. That makes it so whenever you switch tracks, it will automatically switch to that chosen instrument on channel 1, so no manual switching is necessary

@@plasticdub1477 On the clip side of this. If you get a little usb hub and plug it into the usb host, you can run 4 keyboards at the same time each with a different midi channel. Instantly you have 4 playable synths! You can also use the Novation Launchpad to create your own custom layouts, and give yourself 4x2 octive keyboards on one screen

The Korg micro keys midi channel can be changed through computer driver. It remembers the channel with power cycle. You can go back to channel one with recalling factory settings but you need a pc to change channel 1 again.

This is a very useful video!! Just what I needed. Yet you gave me an hint and now I have a question :) Since I need to connect mymaster keyboard to PC and also the synth to PC, and sometimes control the synth by midi message from master keyboard, what is the fastest and better connection I should do? Is there a difference in latency if I connect by midi the masterkey to the synth or the masterkey to the PC and throug pc control the synth by playing the masterkey?

When the arpegiator on Roland MC101 is activated, what happen when you press the keys on the keyboard? Will it play the arpegiator? Thanks

This is also possible with a Raspberry Pi--you will need to route the midi information via the usb cable using the command "aconnect"--ALSA is the linux sound driver. The Raspberry Pi is relatively price competitive compared to the dedicated usb midi host, but with the added benefit of being a small computer!! The possibilities are endless. Adding a midi keyboard in the mix, the MC101 goes from a good groovebox to a beast!

I connect my Yamaha epiano this way to the mc101. Not with a Raspberry but with a simple Linux PC and a the command: "aconnect epiano:0 mc-101:0' (For example) . With 'aconnect -l' you can list all connected midi-devices. I also configured a startup-commandline so it is always active. At the Yamaha Epiano you can change the midichannel with a keyboard shortcut.

@@lumm71 How is the wiring? Does have then your Linux PC midiout cable which goes to mc101?
@lumm713 жыл бұрын
@@MoonWalkersbin Every device is connected via USB (2.0) cable to the PC. My epiano does not have midi-port built in. Linux detects the USB devices automatically. If you need midi-port at the PC you can use an audiointerface like the Behringer U-phoria umc204hd.

@@lumm71 then why pc in the middle? mc101 has usb, epiano has usb. i do not understand it now.
@lumm713 жыл бұрын
@@MoonWalkersbin Both devices need an so called USB Host. You can connect the ePiano and the Mc101 with USB-Wire but nothing will happen. With USB there ist a need of a communication controller like a Computer/PC which acts as host Controller. Sorry for my bad english 🙂

For what it's worth, they make a Bluetooth midi cable set-up. One cable is short and has a 5 pin connector on each end. Then, and I'm saying this off the top of my head, there's another midi cable that plugs into the midi compatible instrument you want to pair with. They are on Amazon and are like 60 or 70 bucks (again, off the top of my head). Hope this helps.

@Sn00ze Жыл бұрын
Wouldn't a OTG USB cable be enough to solve this issue? It's a small adapter that looks like a regular USB connector but it designates the device you plug it into as the host.
@Ether_Void9 ай бұрын
Only if the device you are plugging the cable into supports OTG. I looked up the MC-101 and it doesn't seem to support OTG. In addition is uses a USB type B connector which is not capable of supporting OTG (as it is missing the additional signaling pin that Micro and Mini USB have or the control channel that USB-C uses)

not better to connect a novation launchkey mini mk3 keyboard with midi out/pads/midi chswitch, and connected to midi in on the mc101..?
@compartmentofdirections3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, and that's something to keep in mind when buying a controller specifically for their MC101- make sure it has MIDI out or you are screwed like this guy, which is ok I guess if you have a favorite keyboard. But don't buy a brand new keyboard that doesnt do what u need.

definitely - i considered other options, including buying another synth with 5-pin MIDI out - but i was determined to make it work with the gear i already had - sheer bloody mindedness is one of my (many) weaknesses...

Volca’s only do midi out, so as long as you want the volca to send midi to your Akai, then yes it will work, but you can’t use your akai to send midi to the volca coz it doesn’t have midi in.
