This is absolutely my dream pocket groovebox. I don't usually preorder things, but I preordered it immediately. It's stereo, polyphonic, it has mutes, you can sample directly into it, you can shop directly on it, envelopes for pitch filter and amplitude, tons of stereo effects, USBC out for audio, it's pocketable, battery powered, and costs 200 dollars. I can't say that about any other sampler I own, like the PO33, Vocla Sample 2, even my circuit rhythm. I think I finally found my perfect sampler. ALSO if you're planning on getting this, spend like 10 bucks and buy a bunch of "Tall Trim Toppers", they fit perfectly and really improve the feel. You'll thank me later.

I got one, and fun thing about the granular... since you can control the playhead speed, you can use it to timewarp samples! So I've set up the last pattern in memory to have the granular set up with the best settings for that, so then you just set the playhead speed such that the sample ends up as fast or as slow as you want, then resample it back to a pad, and bam... timewarp. Considering that timewarping IS fundamentally a form of granular synth, I'm surprised they don't have a little macro do do that automatically

I’m actually the opposite. I love a lot about my 404 but this is much quicker and to the point for what I wanna do. And the granular engine, parameter locks and motion recording, beefed up sequencer, scaled down workflow and feature set, and, built in mic really make it for me. It’s all preference though. The MKII is an amazing device too and can’t fault anybody for picking either one.

I’m very glad Roland is doing more than just reissues and chord machines with this range, this thing has some awesome things my mk2 does not like the motion record panning and a separate button lane for seq steps, and a rechargeable battery built in, all of which are things I wish were way easier have with the 404mk2, there are the workarounds for all but would be nice to have built in none the less.

It's honestly more what I wanted the SP-404 to be, especially with the separate pads, chromatic *and* granular! The 404 is very cool, but it can be too much and it is a bit bulky in some circumstances. Awesome free flowing walk through. Dig it.
@sailingstar8176
@sailingstar8176 3 ай бұрын
Exactly. I think this is more interesting than a 404, more modern, making better use of the BMC chip. It's just lacking a decent screen, and wouldn't it have been so nice if you could've saved the entire memory into a Project? Actually, it's more like a cut-down MC (101 or 707), and if you have one of those, you essentially already have a better P-6 (minus the granular).

Does the usb audio send multiple channels, or just a single stereo one to the DAW? I don't even know why I'm asking, mine arrives Monday, lol

If hadn’t just bought a 404 mk II a few weeks ago I’d probably be on this thing. It looks pretty awesome.

I have had ZERO success triggering the midi and I went through channels channels channels, read the manual, and watch the small amount of vids that's avaialble on the subject. Other than that, this machine is 🔥

Do you think it's possible to mod these boxes and put an OLED screen with all of the menu settings and a waveform? Don't get me wrong, I understand what these boxes are supposed to be but It feels like (and especially this P-6 and the S-1) that they could really benefit from a screen upgrade.

What’s the midi implementation like? The S-1 has full midi cc for each function, the other ROLca’s do not. If all these functions are accessible via midi cc this thing can be more useful than intended.

different behavior can be set to different channels, like one channel controls the grainular, one channel each key can trigger a different sample (velocity too if your controller sends it), another channel triggers whatever is currently selected chromatically or sth. menu dive to change midi settings. hopefully a pdf of the manual is available?
