Thank you for putting this video together ... very helpful, and a lot of work lining up all that audio in your NLE. Thanks a bunch!

Yes Each XLR input is recorded as a separate channel, so if the NTG2 is plugged into XLR1, it will normally come through as the left channel. In your editor you can normally select the single channel to be "dual mono" and you will get the same output on the left and right channels.

Thanks Yes - the JVC mic is at the bottom of my kit bag with the Sen and the NTG-2 getting the most use. If I'm shooting with the Canon, and am single handed then the Videomic is a good compromise. If possible I use the Roland and then use FCPX to sync the audio from the Roland. If I'm shooting on the JVC then I normally use the NTG-2 directly into the CLR inputs on the camera Thanks for watching

recently purchased the r26 and ntg2. I find the ntg2 is low end heavy in comparison to the r26

...internal xy mics which are crisper sounding. also the ntg2 only records single channel mono when connected to the r26 via the xlr. I have to make the audio stereo in post. is this right?

Hi - For me it works very well and I've used it a combination of the NTG-2 and the R26 on several shoots - and now get asked to help out a lot! I have used the H4N, but never really got on well with it - The lack on input controls whilst recording really is a problem!

Hi. The setup I use mostly when shooting with DSLR's is the NTG2 with the Roland, and it works very well, so yes definitely recommended! If I'm shooting with the JVC, I use the NTG2 straight into the XLR inputs on the JVC. I never use the JVC mic that came with the camera!!

I think I would choose the senheiser and the ng2 rode into the Roland as the best sounding. What did you find as the best for interviews etc

Shotgun microphones are notorious for the kind of echo that you hear in this sample. To minimize this you need to put your camera on the widest lens and get the camera as close as you can. You can use blankets and other sound deadening devices too but some rooms are so bright (audio reflective) that little can be done. A normal condenser mic or lavs will work better. You always want to record in 48khz otherwise you could have drift on longer clips (your audio sync will drift over time). Be sure to be super nice to your wife. My wife also gets dragged into my video adventures too. God Bless them! Thanks for the info on the R26. Gerry in Calgary.

I would like to add to this review the the 1/4 20 thread on the back for screwing into tripod, stand, etc is NOT reccomended using. It's not really supported internally so you can easily break it. I personally experienced this on a job and had to take apart and disassemble the Roland in order to remove the screw.

Thanks for the tip. I've only used the screw thread a few times, to hold the r26 on a gorilla pod tripod, and not had a problem. Normally I have it secured round my neck! But I will keep your comment in mind
