I've owned both of these. The Korg Grandstage's sounds have much better depth and expression. The RD2000 is definitely meant to be used with external sounds. For me the Korg made more since when I play live.

Except for the Wha/Phased EP (where the Roland was subtler and better) the two were very close--almost indistinguishable. I have a Kronos 2 88 and an RD-2000, and I much prefer the keybed and piano sounds on the Roland. Some of the other sounds, especially organ, are better on the Korg, but the Roland is a better stage piano IMHO. It:s also a better MIDI controller, and is very convenient for mixing internal and external sound sources. And the action is great. Either one would be a good choice. Try them both, and whichever one that you pick, you'll probably be happy with it.

I own the Roland. I heard nothing here to make me want the Korg, but it's sounds are certainly as good. The RD 2000 is a BEAST to tote to gigs. I was using a Studiologic SL88studio and MainStage, So lightweight but not enough sliders/buttons to quickly access my sounds. RD has controls for everything right on deck and if the computer won't boot, just play without it!

Played both and own a CP4 but ended up buying the Korg grandstage last week and am amazed with the piano.Total upgrade over the CP4 soundwise. The action so much better than I expected and would have been a deal-breaker if not good. I am very comfortable with it and the piano could not be more user-friendly. Our first gig with me pkaying it will be this week would be glad to update. And don't get me wrong Yamaha cp4 is a phenomenal keyboard I have loved it for five years but it's a little outdated now and Korg has really stepped up with this Piano. Once you get into it and tweak the pianos with all of the availability that it has to tweak it sounds amazing

The other day I was in a music store to pick up KEYSCAPE and saw the GrandStage. I was taken back by how plasticy the keybed felt. I felt the RD 2000 next to it and it was like night and day. if I closed my eyes and just went by touch, the RD 2000 wins by miles. It feel much more like a Grand Piano. This is a great demo because in the music store it was too noisy to here both for a fare comparison. To me both pianos sound almost the same, which is quite good. I think most other sounds on the RD 2000 sound better as the sounds on the GrandStage sound slightly thinner. The one nice thing about the GrandStage is the size. OVERALL RD 2000 WINS!!!

What I heard with this Korg Grand was the very same thing I heard with the Kronos pianos, noticeable inconsistencies in the samples throughout the keyboard. The samples in the middle section of the keyboard had a noticeable difference in the tonal quality than in other sections of the keyboard. And I found this to be the case with all 3 pianos that the Kronos comes with. The decay on some notes sound shorter than on other notes. When I heard that with the Korg Grand in this video it immediately reminded me of the Kronos piano. Don't get me wrong, the Kronos is a phenomenal keyboard. I personally don't think the pianos live up to the hype. I notice no inconsistencies at all with the RD 2000. It's all subjective.

I just can't tell the difference, maybe cos I'm listening on my phone. I do believe Roland are the masters of sound modelling though and the v-piano on the RD2000 is not sampled but totally modelled and has unlimited polyphony. Also in ANY comparison I have seen the RD2000 seems to invariably get better comments on the keyboard feel and action. I think on top of that the fact this keyboard is set up so user friendly to work with external sources is a real bonus too. Here is the thing though, the RD2000 has little to nothing by way of accompaniments, I know it's not a sequencing keyboard nor workstation as such but a dedicated stage piano optimised for live performance, having said that, it wouldn't have done any harm to put some sequencing and song programming capabilities inside. Instead one must have a mac or pc to add these capabilities. One reason why I am seriously weighing up buying a korg kronos.

@jymcaputo6 жыл бұрын
My impression too. Listen to the very first acoustic piano comparisons.....the decay time was very fast and abrupt on the RD but the harmonic overtones rang on for days with the GS. On the Rhodes comparison that followed, the RD seemed darker (and maybe bigger?) but it had less attack where you could sense the mechanical hammers.
@jymcaputo6 жыл бұрын
I like the Acoustic and electric pianos better on the GS. HOWEVER, the GS has somewhat cheesy functionality when it comes to the split function. It is limited to 2 voices which means a split CANNOT also contain a layered sound.....ie, bass in the left hand and piano and pad in right hand. The RD allows for 4 separate parts. Additionally, the split point on the GS is fixed and not adjustable up or down.
@veganchris29234 жыл бұрын
@@jymcaputo the split point on the GS IS adjustable. you just hold the split key and hit the key you want the split to be at. I think the GS has much better sounds, but Roland definitely kills it in regards to being multi-timbral and customization.
