I have 4 Roland Sound Canvas models, an SC-55 which I have had for nearly 2 years, a Roland SD-35 which I bought in April or May 2024 ( mainly for it's player section to use with external midi devices, it's internal sound module is basically the same as an SC-7 ), a Roland SC-88 Pro which I got in March 2010 and have had the longest and a Roland SC-8850 that I bought around the same time I bought the SC-55. The reason the sound modules blow the Microsoft GS Wavetable synth out of the water is partly down to the fact they use ReSynthesized PCM similar to that in the Roland U series racks and the older Roland S series samplers meaning that the samples are timestreatched whereas the Microsoft GS Wavetable synth as it's name implies uses basic wavetable sampling with in some cases 1 sample pitched across the entire key range. Before I was in a position to get a real Sound Canvas way back in 2008 Microsoft GS Wavetable synth was as good as it got for me if I wanted some stapel Sound Canvas sounds but despite the fact it's abysmal it did at least lead up to me buying the original sound modules. The SC-55 does have some nice drum kits especially considering it came out in 1991 ( a solid standard kit, I also always liked the gated snare in the power kit and also an orchestral kit for use in classical styles but on the SC7 and MS Wavetable synth the orchestral kit is just based on pitched variations of standard kit drums ).

Thanks for the comment; I myself own an SC-8850, and it's definitely one of the best synths in my opinion.
