Great video! The cool thing about analogue hardware is the lack of ear fatigue. The same pattern can be played over and over with slight tweaks and it sounds just as fresh as when the track started. Groovy!

Thank you!
@wackerburg10 ай бұрын
I can only fully ackknowledge this statement. Hardware units just sound very present AND pleasant at the very same time. I don't know why that is. And when I use software emulations, I get so tired very fast.
@renx8110 ай бұрын
Neither the 909 or the 606 were purely analogue. Also, how is purely digital synthesis not susceptible to the same "freshness" criteria? Give any algorithm enough parameters and you will achieve the same levels of "freshness" by tweaking those parameters. This phenomenon has nothing to do with analog vs digital.
@vstpluginsonicxtc10 ай бұрын
Where did I say the 909 and 606 were purely analog? The problem in the 80s when these devices were released was the fact that the digital equipment of the time did not have the digital processing power to “give any algorithm enough parameters” to achieve the same sound dynamics of analog gear. I would argue that only in the last 10 years have consumer computer technology and software programming been able to match the nuances of analog. Now digital hardware or software emulations like Arturia Acid V, Roland Cloud 303, ABL3, etc. have the processing power and parameters to achieve the ‘freshness” by “tweaking those parameters.” I personally really like Acid V because it makes feel like I have a modded 303 in a professional studio without the challenging programming hassles of the original, need for a closet full of old stomp pedals and cords. However, whether you use digital and/or analog gear there is really no substitute for high level outboard gear, mixer, and recording equipment. Although I must admit that the mastering software that emulates all that great stuff is getting quite close thanks to the ever increasing processing power coming to the market. Peace.@@renx81

@@vstpluginsonicxtc So far, neither the existing emulations nor that new kid on the block aka "Acid V" do it for me. In my personal opinion based on actual intense usage of both real original hardware units and plugin emulations, I learned that you should get it right at the source first and foremost. Great subsequent tools perform much better then. Also to me emulations up to today always have this strained and stressed sound while a 909 / 808 / 303 sounds both pleasant and relaxed at the same time. Eumlations try hard and never get there. With hardware units it's simple: you turn them on, have fun programming them and you get the desired result right away. Which is proven in this video btw. And while we're at it: let's just be kind and not over-discuss this. When someone is happy with whatever floats his/her boat, then it's all good ✌

303 is so small compared to 909. It is like 3 x 303 = 909 which kinda make sense lol

Hmm now is the 505 and 303 added ogether same size as 808?
@MottiWolkenbruch Жыл бұрын
@renx8110 ай бұрын
It's because the 303 was purely analogue subtractive synthesis, which does not take a lot of circuit space. 909 on the other hand had analogue synthesis combined with digital samples, which would naturally take more space on the circuit board.

I still love this, now I'm 53 years old. I was there at the inception of the acid tunes. The TB-303 was actually designed to be a drum machine..
@kallaprime79928 күн бұрын
Bass machine* , like with 909 there is no need for real drummer anymore so Roland made 303 to simulate bass guitarist. It was a commercial failure and was discontinued in 1984.
