The TR-8S and TR-6S Rhythm Performers continue their sonic evolution with TR-8S v3.0 and TR-6S v2.0 updates. These free upgrades add new instruments and features to the Rhythm Performers, including the legendary Roland CR-78 CompuRhythm and TR-808 Chromatic Bass. Here's a suggestion Roland - do a plugin version that can talk to the hardware TR8S so I can fill the hardware TR8S with patterns and sounds then upload them to the plugin to use in my DAW without the nonsense of bouncing multiple tracks of audio out the TR8S to audio tracks in my DAW. Similar to what Arturia did with MiniFreak.

Roland, if you're reading this, long time customer and supporter here. LOVE the TR8S. I'm wondering if you will you ever add "chromatic" mode?? You know, a function where you can make each instrument chromatically tunable without having to step sequence program each and every note to a single automated tune, but where you can either use the 16 step buttons for 16 chromatic notes and or be able to chromatically play the instruments with a midi keyboard?

Thank you, Roland!!! Yeah, I it would seem like the CR-78 model should've been available years ago when the TR-8S was first released from the jump. However, I'm glad Roland finally added it. I figured they would eventually add it sooner or later. Now about the chromatic tuning for the TR808 bassdrum, what a PLEASANT SURPRISE!!!!!@ This was totally unexpected and it is greatly appreciated. Thanks again!!!! I'm going to update my TR-8S tonight when I get home from work.

Roland really need to provide a sofatware like overbridge for Elektron devices , with drivers that don't replace main sound card , and the plugin routing not only audio and midi in real time but also recalls everything saved with session .... I can't wait to install this update (5 months later) 🫨 I do live performances on Twitch and for me, there are two things I really need on the TR-8S. The first is the ability to record a roll for an instrument in INST REC mode and the second is to be able to create a random pattern for a single instrument in a kit, like PATTERN+SAMPLE but for one instrument at a time, with a smart and easy button combination 🌼🐝 Please Roland 🥺🐣✊

With all due respect, I think most of us want Roland to focus on their current line of products. Everyone that hangs on to out of production gear wants updates for them and who knows you might get it, but seeing how affordable a TR-8S is on the second hand market I really want to suggest you just update your gear.

@@GTChris I get your view but I absolutely agree with @Wagoo: It would cost them a minute to at least reduce the price of the 7x7 Update. The TR8 still is a relevant product, people sell and resell it, it is on stages and studios worldwide ... I dont see what harm would it make do anyone to stay fair to older and less privileged customers. 120 Euro for a Update is a lot of money (450 for a used TR8s is even more)! It is not cool to give other customers with the Updates just free and then expect that everyone else is just cool with it.

Cool thanks, especially the chromatic tuned 808. Can we already sync and start the LFO to the BPM? I love my TR-8S but it does have some minor things that make me wonder why years after it's release those haven't been addressed. I guess there is always someone somewhere wanting something, but that being said there are things missing in the software that have been mentioned in almost every review as a con from the start. Missing CC destinations to name another thing.

Really excellent. The 6/8S are a dream of do it all drumboxes🤩 But why no USB audio/MIDI class compliant mode to use with an iPad ? Even if it means only stereo in/out for the audio. Right now I believe we don’t even have USB MIDI. Maybe for a v3.5 or v4. Keep up the good work ! You’re keeping these babies on top as a true reference.

Why are the patterns and presets of tr6s and tr8s not compatible even though they are the same sound engine?

In drum machines it would be a big step to integrate an automatic algorithm that indicates the correct balance between the various kick presets associated with each bass preset, currently the big obstacle for improvised live performances. This is the big limitation that DJs/producers like me currently prefer to create balanced rhythm patterns on the DAW rather than obtain a non-professional live balance.

I truly love the sound of the TR8S and really do believe it has a subtle edge over the 707, specifically in terms of drum tone and mojo, but i still prefer the 707 because of on the box programming simplicity and knob assign feature (which gives me more flexibility for basslines for certain genres). Im lazy and usually only set up 1 box at a time, but god i wish 707 drum sound sounded like the TR8S. I haven't tried the TR8S software programmer yet though. Can anyone confirm if this improves the potential for programming interesting bass lines for say jungle and dubstep genres? Thx

I Backed up my data then installed v3.0, made a factory restore and the new Patterns & Kits are there. Then I restore my data from SD and the new Patterns and Kits are gone.. Is there a way to have both? Can someone please explain the real update method as the one on the Roland site does not seem to work.

- It would have been useful if you actually told us how to install the new patterns or kits, so do i have to do a factory reset after the update and lose all my original patterns or what ??? Edit: As it isn't mentioned anywhere - if you want to use the new CR-78 patterns and kits you have to update firmware AND do a factory reset, which means losing all your custom patterns and samples, so backup first, update firmware, factory reset, export new patterns and kits to SD card, restore from backup, then import new patterns and kits to available spaces. Also make sure the new patterns match up with their corresponding kits, lastly most important shift/Exit/Overwrite. Could Roland have made it a little easier? maybe included new patterns/kits with the new updated TR Editor, probably not.

Does the editor allow you to sort user imported samples yet? Doing them 1 at a time on the hardware is cack. Made the mistake of importing 70 one shots the other day only to find the editor offered no sample management.
