dear matt, as i recently discovered your channel one thing came abundantly clear.... make a whole, better yet a 3 piece album with you playing around like this on different synths, samplers, anything you want. and nobody else but you... you have such a nice balance between skills an soul. my hats off to you.

that's what i told him last time he uploaded...make an electronica album...program some drum loops and voila...an instant classic. everthing he plays is gold...i like what you said about skills and soul...very true!!

I’ve had my V Synth since it came out in 2003. It has such a great sound. No VST can match it. The effects are killer. Jay B has made some amazing patches for it too. Plus, you can load samples into it and tweak them that way too.

Mine has recently had some kind of breakdown, just out of the blue it goes into a loop of changing patches and just freaking out, no idea what has gone wrong, tried a factory reset but no difference.

@@lardosian sounds like it. every digital synth I’ve owned (Roland, Yamaha) either lost patch memory or started acting wonky. simple repair, maybe worth talking to a tech to get their opinion.

True. For every recognized hardware classic there is at least one synth that was a gem in it's own but never got the recognition it deserved. Ever heard of the Technics WSA? Like most 90ties virtual modelling synths (Yamaha VL1, Korg Prophecy / Z1). It was so far ahead hardly anybody got it. After these acoustic modeling ventures the V-synth was the only next conceptual step ahead and only now it has been surpassed by the Waldorf Quantum, I suppose. Real breakthroughs at best seem to happen once in a decade.

Superb sounds amazingly played. And you right the V-synth is been under loved when came out! I always regretted that I couldn’t afford it at that time.

Recently got the vsynth and I'm happy it's a sound of its own and that's why I bought it. the D-beam the Time Trip pad are very interesting. I love how simple it is to edit the sounds. I love how it looks like a d50 tank!
@SRDhain4 жыл бұрын
The original V synth was one of the few times i was an early adopter of the tech. The v1 software wasn't the best; the filters had audible stepping and there was anomalies in the thing in general, including some lacklustre sounds out of the box. Some months later, Roland did an OS revision, which fixed a lot of things (except the multitimbrality mentioned in the manual, which never materialised) and it became a beauty. I used it on all sorts of things, from library stuff, to pop bits. The sequencer in it is fun, and useful too. Thank you for uploading this. It makes me harken for one again.

Love the Alesis andromeda A6 too.. rich sounds indeed. And true analogue. Peculiar thing this but I still have the Vsynth however sold the A6 about 10 years ago Both were used regularly in the studio and on most tracks together but the music I produced was a little harder. I bought them both at roughly the same time in 2001 after seeing them demo’d in Miami ( winter music conference ) I,later saw you using the A6 at a Manchester gig in 2008 I think Great job Matt

Great video! I really like that you talk about the character of the synth in relation to the encoding - it's such a weird process that back in the day was revolutionary, but the more I play with mine, the more I think that the sound it generates is akin to coveted sound of 12 bit samplers.

Don’t forget the D50 and Vocoder add-on cards as well! I use mine with the arpeggiator and touch pad to do “On the Run”. Easier to program than most digital-screen synths. The action is also good, although I feel guilty using it as a MIDI controller. Nice video, man. Off to dig mine out.

Beautiful music, thanks for sharing. The sound of the synth reminds Jasper Van't Hoff in the album with Archie Shepp especially the song ''contracts''... But it was already before I heard the tune a sound seemingly familiar, does it have a name, a precise origin ? Of course I remember it too from the music of Jamiroquai. The sound seems alive (or human) in the beautiful 'Half the man'

I will NEVER sell mine, nor the vocal modeling and D-50 cards. Nothing sounds like it and nothing can mangle or magically transform samples like it can. Can cover so many bases, but you're right about the encoding - does something very special to the sound - makes simple noises come across as forlorn or lonely - or massive and weirdly organic.
