Thank you!! You're a lifesaver! It just happened to me today after 21 years with my XP-80 that I bought back in January 1999, I had the same message! Lucky me that I stored the sounds I created and edited thru the floppy disk of the original XP-80 demos and everything is back and working like new! Well done with the tutorial! Blessings!

another quick way to do it,just open the keyboard(take the bottom part off)plug it in,turn it on and replace battery with unit on,put bottom cover back on and thats it,you wont loose data,10 mins job!!

A silly question I know but to be sure, this process does not harm the factory default performances right? Only my personal performance data? I want to be sure I do not lose any default sounds and performances.

Yes, it's my understanding that the factory defaults are there to stay. The process I describe in the video does not affect them. And even if it did, there should be a way to restore the factory defaults.

Thanks Keith! I had already opened my XP-80 and replaced my battery before I received your reply and you are correct, it does not affect the factory presets. Made quite the difference in the performance also.

I used a CR 2032 battery (see 4'13''). I recommend getting a good brand that you know.

Hello, I have a Roland D70 and displays "low battery" message. No custom sounds nor settings. What happened if I just replace battery ? Will I lost factory sounds ?

As I understand it, you will not lose the factory sounds. Even if you do, you should be able to reinstall them easily (consult the manual to find out how to do this).

@@theapex8973 It's always good practice to back-up your files regardless. That way, if anything happens, you've lost nothing, other than the couple of minutes it takes to reinstall them.

Recently I turned on my XP80 but the lcd display doesn't show anything, all the buttons are on (red lights) and doesn't sound at all. Could you please give me some advise regarding this? Could it be the battery or something else? Many thanks.

If there was a problem with the battery, you would get a message saying 'Battery Low', or something like that. It sounds like you should get the keyboard checked out by a Roland specialist.

My F2 button does not want to engage....what could be the problem?

It could be a dirty contact. I saw a useful video on 12voltvids channel on how to repair membrane-type remote control units that don't work. One squirt of electrical contact cleaner did it. It might be worth doing some research to see if this could be the solution to your F2 button. I don't know, it's just a suggestion. Does anyone else have any ideas or opinions?

I haven't had this problem, but if the buttons work like those on a remote control unit, you could check out this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYmZqYyCg7WleMk. Also, I once repaired similar type buttons on a digital clock with contact cleaner. It worked! These are just suggestions to point you in the right direction. Please do more research before attempting to repair your XP 60. I hope this helps.

If you are still getting a 'Low Battery' message after you have replaced that battery with a new one, then the problem isn't the battery!
