His career is the kind that EVERY drummer should want. Traveling all the time, seeing millions of fans all over the world, playing for 1 of the biggest stars in the world, and still humble enough to not it all taken away from him. He gets calls from companies, major endorsements, and he's just enjoying the fruits of his labor while seeing this entire planet while along for the ride. THIS is what we strive for. Luckily, I live the same. Stay focused guys! You can DO this!! - Chris Bonneau

I can see how average musicians would struggle to see this as talent. Most people think he can just move his hands really fast.
@fullautomatic555
@fullautomatic555 11 жыл бұрын
Why do you say that? Why would an "average musician" have trouble recognizing great playing? Personally, I think that many musicians would enjoy this and think that it's great while others might think that it's just someone moving their hands really fast. You know, just like normal people might.
@arguy2021
@arguy2021 11 жыл бұрын
My point was that even musicians, to a certain extent, don't have the musical context to understand the complexity here.
@fullautomatic555
@fullautomatic555 11 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I feel like Tony might not even understand what he's playing sometimes. I don't mean that he isn't able to, but as a drummer, I often do things just out of "feel" or instinct and when I think about them after (or listen to them) I say to myself, "wow, what did I do there?". As for context, I think that the electronic drums in this video provide great musical context with their samples and non-traditional drum sounds. Which is to say, non-musicians or even non-drummers can hear how his drumming makes sense as part of a larger whole of a track/song/performance.

LenMan619 I had a (english comp) professor once who told me how she loved math and it was a real easy class for her to breeze through, but english classes were always a struggle for her. Naturally I asked if math was her favorite subject why did she not teach it? Her reply was that she never really "understood" how to learn math (it all came naturally to her) whereas all the struggling that she had to endure in english classes left her with a better understanding of how to learn (and thus teach) that subject. I think that the same can be said of many prodigies or other naturally talented persons: when asked how they can do such amazing things, they might not know how it happens. I don't think that's true of everyone, but I do believe that it's pretty common.

My dad swears up and down that Buddy is the best drummer the world will ever see. I have, being a metalhead, on multiple occasions shown him stuff from Danny Carey and Gavin Harrison, to which he was like, "meh... yeah, they're good... sort of" Tomorrow, I'm gonna show him this. I know that it'll make him rethink his hypothesis of Buddy Rich being the best drummer that the world will ever see!

Great performance. A lot of people slagging the sound of the kit. I get it. Sounds on most brains of E-Kits can sound a little artificial. I think though that what people tend to forget is the world of difference you can open when you use that little MIDI port on the back of the brain and go into something like Addictive Drums, or Superior Drummer where you can use sounds (and mics/rooms) that have real acoustic dynamics to them. I'll agree that on a kit that will run you 6 grand you should get some dynamic range, but no biggie, if you can afford the 6000 dollar kit you should have no problem shelling out a few hundred for some software on your computer. I did...Superior Drummer...you can too!
@nengstro

@bmonstrosity

Agreed Superior Drummer takes every negative away from E-Drums. Now if we can just get roland to use those samples in its brain we will be far beyond the curve.
@soculese
@soculese 9 жыл бұрын
I think if they licensed out sounds from ToonTrack it could be a GREAT thing. That being said, it could also make a not too affordable kit that much more expensive. If you included a SD sound engine and 3 libraries of drum kits in a roland or Yamaha brain, add another 600-700 bucks to the price of the kit.
