Roland please release an editor so we can create kits on the computer and upload them to the TR8S, instead having to create them sound by sound on the hardware. The technology exists as you can upload kits from the aira page. Please, this is the only weak spot of this otherwise fantastic piece of kit.

@Murada the editor for the SP-404 is horribly outdated... The third party Bankrobber app for SP-404 was amazing and worked much better than the official one but sadly the developers stopped supporting it.

Hey Roland! While this is a really great update, now with even more melodic sounds added, wouldn't it be great to have some possibility to input simple melodic lines, like a mode where the pads turn either into all the coarse tune steps of one specific sound (and then can record directly into the motion sequence) or (perhaps too advanced) some specific scale modes where some of the coarse tune steps are left out, according to that specific scale? That would be so great in order to jam with the TR-8S alone, without an accompaining synth. It really has everything needed inside, already. (Oh yes, some unquantized recording would be great, too, but the melodic mode is vital, I feel) Thanks so much, and greetings from Romania!

after watching the Loopop video it seems that FM engine have semitone control, so you can automate it to get melodic lines. Not perfect but usable. And I don´t know if there is CC control of corse tune but if yes, then you could use a MIDI controller with pads/buttons that can send specific CC values and record this.

This thing gives me chills. I design my kit samples using a multi-step process that involves the TR-8S and Cubase. I then use Backbone to Resynthesize and dismantle them into something unique. The results are often wild. This thing will provide a lifetime of samples. The FM engine and TR Editor are icing on the cake.

I haven't been exactly Thrilled with Roland since purchasing the Jupiter XM last year. After several emails and phone calls to support no one from Roland.returned my correspondence. Its doubtful I will ever buy another one of their products as support is non existent outside of KZbin. With that said this seems like a step in the right direction. It seems like this is a massive update to an already great product. Hey Roland if you are reading this perhaps its time to hire more support agents in the U.S

Seriously, and not just a shitty "play these 16 patterns after one another" kinda song mode either. A PROPER song mode. It would blow its competition away if it had that. I'm desperate for something like a TR-8S with a nice song mode, and safe for an MPC, which is serious overkill in my case, there's nothing to fill that void on the market to my knowledge. I would buy the shit out of that.

@@Budukhong I want something where I can tell it - play patterns 1 to 16, repeat twice, then play patterns 17 and 18 once, jump to pattern 8 and play till end of section, then jump to ending patterns. So full control of which patterns are being played, how many repeats and jumps to difference sections. Just like you would play a 'real' song.

I can see the benefit of a song mode in such a capable machine. I can't imagine how Roland would incorporate such a feature into a machine with such a fiddly little screen though. I mean, they could use the 16 sequencer buttons to represent 16 patterns, but how would we tell the machine to play one of them multiple times etc? This is something I was able to achieve in the MPC 1000, but the screen on that made it easy to see what I was doing.

@ honestly its coming soon, but still in progress. If you know there was MC303,505,808,909... And then new generation 707 and Tr8s, so Mc1001 and Tr1000(TrOneK) is coming soon... MC1001 will continue MC909 and will have big screen and will cost around 2000$. Tr1000 will be like Tr8s x2 with 24 tracks and large sampler with APC features for beatmakers

A minor quibble: Roland updated the Reference Manual and the ToneList to include new firmware 2.0 features, but it would be nice if Roland could also update the owners manual at some point (I mean it's been over 6 months after all). But hey, it's still a GREAT update ! Kudos to Roland !

we need to be able to tune basslines easier, either via midi like with the tr8skreamer software but internally in the firmware, or in the tr8s itself would be even better. its simple enough to be more hands on than a groovebox like the 707 but it lacks this melodic feature that is especially importat fot basslines in the drum tracks. scales for mototion control for tune and /or coarse tune. but not only coarse, so we can use ctrl still for other parameters. i love the tr8s, and i hate other gear lol

Yes, the TR8S is a fantastic machine for live preformances. However, it would be great, if you could add an option to invert the "Mute" into a "Solo" button, to quickly solo intruments during a performance, instead of having to mute all the instruments or put their faders down

Question for other owners: It looks like a complete factory reset is required in order to install this. I know I can make a backup to an SD Card, but will this wipe out all my imported samples also, thus making my backed up patterns useless until I reload all my samples? I don't think [and I could be wrong about this] that the backup process backs up the samples. Just looking for some info before I wipe out a year's worth of data. Thanks in advance for any advice.
