Some years ago, I had a similar experience, on a business trip, after a training session, caucasian co-workers and I went out to lunch, not being familiar with the area, I allowed them to choose the restaurant, well when we arrived the restaurant had a huge confederate flag displayed on the door, I immediately told them I could not eat there, which befuddled them, I told them the flag was a symbol to African-Americans your business was not wanted, which they disagreed, they went on to eat there and I didn't, which was also the last day i associated with these specific coworkers.

Since I work in an industrial area, there’s not a lot of food chains or grocery stores nearby, so I went to the mom and pop store across the street from my job for lunch. The Iranian guy behind the register ignored me and proceeded to help the other non-black male customers. Years ago I was on a Ferry and saw a Home Depot Trailer parked that was being pulled by a truck that had the confederate flag on the back of the cabin. Knowing that the drivers are not necessarily always associated with the chain I called the Home Depot. Now I don't know if its because I sound absolutely "white" on the the phone, but they called me back to notify me that he had been fired. There was great satisfaction for me that day

I remember when I was a rookie cop we only had 4 black cops on our department out of 125 cops. So the blacks we had were quiet about most things. A cop showed up to work with a 3”x5” confederate flag decal on his back window. A guy by the name on Billy Tatum walked over to him and quietly said “ that car better not return with that sticker on the back window tomorrow.” You better believe it’s came off that car so quick. That was a proud moment because it offended blacks and he heard the message and made the choice to remove it.
