Fun fact! The "blood is thicker than water" is one of the most misquoted sayings out there. The full thing goes: "Blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb", meaning the bonds you make by choice are stronger than those you are born into - the LITERAL OPPOSITE of what most people mean when they say it. So technically, it is true. Love it when you two bless us with your combined chaos, you make mY GOUT 😘 Edit: Thanks to all the folks who corrected me down below, as it turns out this is actually a new interpretation of the proverb which emerged back in 1885. The original one does have the "family over everything meaning", and most likely dates to 12th century Germany. Still, I find it interesting how the general mindset is changing to recognize that the new version holds truer.

The whole pool scenario with the girl saying sorry at the end really fucking got me - if a kid is apologising for behalf of someone else - especially an adult - you know their home life is kinda fucked. It reminded me of a random vid i saw of an adult filming themselves sneaking up and scaring a kid (three years old perhaps?) and the kid was sitting there. The adult did the whole "what are doing?" Jumpscare thing, and the kid's immediate reflex was to apologise, even though it was sitting on a computer chair. That's a red flag for a shit home life too imo! Save me a seat on the trigger train 😂

I remember being the kid that had to apologize for my embarrassing mother. She would send us to friends’ houses unexpectedly while she went somewhere and locked up the house pretty often, so then friend’s parents were stuck with us. And if friend’s family had plans, they had to either cancel or drop us off in our front yard knowing that it could be hours and hours before our mom came home. It was super fun playing with a friend in their room and hearing their parents in the next room argue about what to do with you and vent about what a bitch your mom is. But I was a little kid and didn’t have much of a choice. The majority of the time I knew the stuff my mother did was wrong, selfish, and messed up and it made me feel embarrassed and really guilty, but I couldn’t make it stop, either. It’s an incredibly helpless feeling.

Jess What really sucks is the reason she did that was she used to leave my brother and I home by ourselves and just tell us not to open the door for anyone. We were probably 4 & 5 when I remember her doing that. She might’ve done it when we were younger and I just don’t remember. I don’t know. I can remember her doing that when I was in kinder or 1st grade and it would be my job to make dinner for my brother and me. Anyway, my dad found out about it (they’re divorced and he lived out of state) and told her he’d call CPS and get custody of us if she ever left us alone like that again. So her solution when she couldn’t find a sitter or “just wanted some me-time” was to find a neighbor to dump us off on. Without ever asking said neighbor if it was okay. More than once we were too embarrassed to tell the neighbor/friend’s mom that our mom wasn’t home, so we’d just sit on the porch for a couple hours until mom got home.

The stories where parents just dump their kids on perfect strangers are TERRIFYING. Not only do they not give a flying fuck about their kids' safety but they're saying "hey blindly trust every adult you meet! they won't hurt you!" and setting up these children to be kidnapped or molested or trafficked or killed. Jesus, that mom sending her two kids to go swim with a perfect stranger, she didn't know who was at that house or what was happening there. The dad on the plane didn't know that person he was leaving his kids with. And in cases like this you don't know who else is around besides just the adult the kids are interacting with! Like what Luxeria said someone could be watching this situation and realize these kids are vulnerable and that their parents don't give a shit.

Two major reoccurring themes I picked up on throughout this: 1. Parents putting their children in inappropriate situations; leaving their children with strangers, parentifying older children, bringing them along to adults-only events, or leaving them to roam unsupervised. 2. Parents who are unwilling to guide their children through difficult emotions like fear or disappointment; asking for stranger's food or gifts, demanding money and vacations, putting the responsibility on others for their child's emotions, condoning theft? They don't want to have to deal with the big emotions that are bound to come from these situations and in some cases are the ones who set their children up for disappointment in the first place, then take no effort to teach them how to work through and past those feelings.

@@RolyWestYT having worked in childcare most of my adult life, I've unfortunately seen so much of this. So many people seem to have children because they just think they're supposed to, like they never really considered the option of *not* having children, and never actually considered the work involved. I try to be compassionate because you never know all the circumstances and especially in the US there's a serious lack of support for parents, but also there are so many people who are just outright neglectful or toxic to their children and it's infuriating.

Storytime with Amanda: I have two jobs, one being in a retail shop. This shop has one electric cart available (for those who can't walk around), parked in the front foyer by the exit. This is so that it's charged for use. I was coming out of the backroom for two ship to store items for a customer when I spotted a child on the electic cart. He wad bumping into shopping carts, the exit door made of glass and almost one elderly lady. I had pulled the emergency door open (so it remains open) and asked the child politely to not play on the cart. "You could hurt yourself sweety", then proceeded to part the cart back where it belonged. The child just stood there, until his mother came roaring at me. When I said she screamed at me... I mean at the top of her lungs so that everyone could hear. 'How dare I tell her autistic son what to do (insert several youtube banned words)'. All I was doing was making sure her son was safe. The woman made me cry. I calmed down and went back to it... several customers who witnessed it came over to to check on me and tell my manager what had transpired. Yes, I still work there.

As someone with a child with autism, I can tell you that woman seriously f*cked up. I'm sorry she made you cry but I'm glad witnesses were sympathetic and backed you up with your boss. I hope you are okay. Just know you did absolutely nothing wrong, she should have been grateful you cared enough to say something tbh. I just can't fathom leaving my child alone for half a second - never mind long enough to be doing something so dangerous - and people are judgey enough about autism as it is without people like this woman adding to it with their behaviour. Autism may make it harder for kids to understand but that doesn't mean you don't at least TRY to teach them, and you definitely don't attack people who are only trying to help. You also definitely don't leave them unsupervised in shops, especially if they can't understand basic risk assessment or communication. I hope you never have to go through anything like this again, but also that it hasn't put you off caring enough to speak up cos god knows we need more care and compassion in this world.

My little brother is unfortunately on their team. They have been taken to court for the thousands of dollars they refuse to pay back. But they still try to be sneaky and play "superior ". 20 years of pain, I am 25 now. They will never see the error of their ways...sober or not.

The story about mindset that all you need in your life is a marriage and kids gives me gout! Most off the people I know are all about that. The trauma that a lot of people have (me included) bc of this lifestyle is just sad. I don't want kids and my sisters are always telling me that's "not normal". It hurts to hear it, but hearing you talking about this topic feels like a warm hug of acceptance. Never let people shame you into children. My husband and I were never going to have kids. My christian family was in an UPROAR. That's just not what an "upstanding christian woman does". I was expected to be married early, pregnant immediately after marriage, and play house and stay home. Needless to say I didn't fit my mom's mold 😂😂 If kids aren't for you, they aren't for you. Forcing raising a child upon someone will make everyone miserable. We did eventually have a child (we adopted) but after 7 years of marriage. Everyone does life differently. 🤷🏼‍♀️ You do you boo and don't let anyone fuck with you

Me and my fiancé want kids, tbh we don't even fully know why, and we are poor af and disabled, but I am super thrifty, good at diy, not opposed to some quality dumpster diving 👌I mean I know how to clean, otherwise I wouldn't dream of it no matter how much I want kids, I know unfortunately my kids will never know luxury but I was brought up poor and my mum took advantage of any free thing she could, I got taken to so many museums and things, had plenty of second hand and hand me downs I was never completely without, it's amazing how many people just think plopping out a kid is being a parent, or *just* spending money, when there's so much effort and planning involved, and if you can't fathom that, CONTRACEPTION!!

This reminds me of when I was sitting at a café a couple of years ago. I was supposed to meet a girlfriend, but I needed to entertain myself for an hour first. So I found a small table in the back of my favourite café, ordered a chai and began writing. It's one of those places where I always feel creative, so I love being there. I had vaguely noticed that a group of girls had sat down at the table next to me, but I was focused on writing. Every now and then I would look up and stare into the air, and apparently some of these girls thought I was looking at them. So one of them came over and asked if I spoke English. I said yes, and then she said, that some of them were "a little uncomfortable" when I was looking at them. I told her that I had never looked at them, and I couldn't care less about what was going on at their table. She looked offended and left. Soon she came back (because me starring into nothingness is SOOO offensive), and she told me it was illegal to look at people if they found it uncomfortable. Both my parents are lawyers, so I have a pretty good idea about what is legal and what is not. Looking at people in public is not a crime in Denmark. When I was done laughing, I told her that she was being ridiculous, and that she must be really arrogant if she thought she was worth looking at...and to leave me the F*** alone! People have the strangest ideas about, what they are entitled to. Apparently, I wasn't allowed to look out into the air.

When my daughter was four we were at a photography studio getting pictures done for Christmas. There were other parents and children there waiting. My daughter was sitting at a little Lego table and a boy about the same age as her decided he was going to pull the chair out from under her and then kick her. His parents did/said NOTHING!!! I scolded him and comforted my daughter. The mom gave me a death glare like I was the one in the wrong. Opposite end of the spectrum, but still awful parents 😂

They’re also the ones who will claim that anyone who doesn’t have their own child doesn’t know anything about children Hamm and has no right to say anything about how anyone chooses to parent. So many things but here’s two. 1. There are plenty of people who have years of study and years of experience working with children. Childcare isn’t just letting children play and do whatever they want all day while half watching them while painting your nails like some people seem to think. You have to know, be aware and be able to recognise and anticipate so many things. There’s constant observations and reports to be done. There’s also having to learn everything about multiple children all at once. A lot of parents don’t want to accept that in a lot of cases their child’s carers know the child better than the parents do because of how much more time they spend with them and how much attention they are required to give and put into knowing everything about that child. They don’t need to have pushed a baby out of their body to know about raising children they do it every day. The only difference is they get a break at night. There are plenty of people working in medical fields like paediatrics or other child related medical roles who don’t have children. I know who’s health advice is take when it comes to caring for children than someone with no medical training who’s only qualification or experience is they were able to reproduce. 2. Some things are common sense. Don’t let your toddler play with fire, if a child eats a peanut and goes into Anaphylaxis you don’t have to be a parent (or even medically trained) to recognise that child has a peanut allergy, don’t leave you child with any old stranger. There are endless examples of things that anyone with a brain would recognise. Being able to reproduce doesn’t guarantee common sense, just like not having reproduced doesn’t mean someone doesn’t have common sense. Only an immature parent would think they know better than anyone and everyone else and take every suggestion made by anyone as criticism. Sorry to those types of parents, a child’s well-being will always be more important than an adult’s ego, and people should always advocate for child safety first There’s a difference between not understanding the exhaustion etc of being a parent and never getting a break, and

I believe that if your toddler is swimming the parent needs to be in the water or less than an arms length away. It’s because that’s a particularly dangerous age and then to try to keep watch of other children at the same time is just a disaster waiting to happen. Drowning is a silent death with little kids because they just sink and it happens so fast.

That story with the child taking the bike from the garden and his mum ending up being arrested; her behaviour JUST goes to show why he(?) thought it was acceptable to go into someone else's back yard and STEAL a bike. The kid sounds like they get everything they want and can't understand why they can't have it. As entitled as that mother is I really worry for her child; if they think thats ok and acceptable with their mother fighting their corner (which is completely backwards), that kid will end up isolated, without friends, lonely, and likely in trouble with the law as/when they grow up and become an adult. A parents job is to teach their child how to become a full grown human and guide them into the world with a moral compass or they will just fail and be so broken for it. As a mother I find her behaviour disgusting and so shocking. As naughty as the child was for taking the bike they clearly haven't been given the correct tools to navigate life and think that behaviour is ok and mum will sort it. Actually quite heartbreaking to know that child will have big problems as they get older, all because of their mother 💔😔

@13:06 unfortunately this story didnt surprise me one bit. i used to work at a library and we had a whole floor dedicated to children (books, toys, computers, comfy chairs). almost every kid there would just be dropped off when we opened and then picked up when we closed (at 10pm!!!!) like we were some sort of free day care. one of our librarians was literally teaching someones kid how to read because she was 9 years old and was "homeschooled", but she was never home, she spent her whole life in that library. these kids arent even old enough to count to 10 and theyd be left alone with a bunch of strangers with no way to contact family if an emergency happens. none of us were paid enough or trained enough to watch over 20 kids and also do our jobs. once, a freshmen at my highschool and her baby brother were left at the library the entire 12 hours we were open and their family never picked them up. it was winter, snow and ice on the ground, middle of the night, and they were about to walk home alone. i ended up taking them home, because i knew this person went to my school and i couldnt in good consious just leave them there. they had a house key, thankfully, and drop off was successful. we arent even allowed to take patrons home for safety reasons, but these were kids so i didnt get in trouble or anything.

This isn’t an entitled parent but a Karen story that happened to me. So this Karen had a go at me for crossing the road with my dog. Basically I have a big boxer dog named bane, he looks really intimidating but is actually a massive sweetheart, I am a 14 year old girl for context. Part of my chore list is to walk him around our small semi-rural British town everyday. I take him to this park 10 minutes away from home because it has a big field that he can run around. Nearly there all I needed to do was cross the road, on the other side of the road was an old lady with her dog, her dog was a lot smaller than my dog and as we crossed my dog went to greet the other dog. My dog like I said prior looks big and scary but actually is really sweet and friendly; when he sees other dogs he likes to say hello by sniffing them, however I try pull him away as I think it’s rude to just let your dog walk up to people. I try pull him away from the lady but he is obviously much stronger then me, I apologise to the lady but she starts shouting at me for scaring her dog and she didn’t see the point in me crossing the road. I explained to her I was going to the park so I needed to cross the road but she kept shouting at me. I just stand there sort of in disbelief because this 70-80 year old woman is screaming at me, a 14 year old, for trying to walk my dog. I kept trying to explain to her why I hadn’t done anything wrong but she wouldn’t listen and eventually I began to walk away. She began shouting profanities at me telling me to put down my “dangerous and aggressive” dog. I then shout at her telling her to take her entitled boomer head out of her ar*e. I continue toward the park whilst she is still shouting at me but I ignore her and I have fun with my dog at the park.

Luckily my brother had kids and got me off the hook for 'grandkids' and my parents have accepted they'll only recieve grandpups from me. Blood means nothing. It's the people who have stuck by and supported you, and BUILT a good relationship with you. The people who feel like home are family and blood isn't a free pass for access to your life. Love y’all talking about how parents can’t make their children clones. It’s so refreshing to hear people just be blunt about how lots of parents don’t want to grow with their kids.

The thing about offloading children, I used to be a waiter and the amount of parents that expected you to watch their kids while they were eating... Prime example, a family of about six were sitting eating and when the children were finished they just let them run wild. When we said about them sitting back down so they don't get hurt (or make us drop things) the parents just said that we the waiting staff should out watch them. And yes we were, but they are your children! Watch them yourself!

My parents always tried to mould me into their perfect daughter. They never told me I was adopted I found out by accident! There was a chasm between us I could never talk to them I was always too scared, I got pregnant at 19 with a long term boyfriend but was too terrified to tell them, so went through the whole termination process alone and frightened. They never encouraged me to be independent I was like their project. I'm sure I disappointed them, I discovered motorcycles drugs and boys. Now at 58 with two beautiful children of my own, I'm glad to say they are strong independent and loving people that I was honest with from the word go, I adore them and am so very proud of them both. Thank you for your videos Roly and Luxeria, I can't tell you how much I love them and you two!! 🥰❤

I once worked with a girl who fully went on holiday after she was told she couldn’t ( it was our busy season and we all knew it. None of us had time for the summer off but the rest of the year we had a LOT of flexibility.). She thought she could just come back to work after they told her she was let go due to not showing up without calling in. The girl came in and carried on like a toddlers until the manager had to call the police. She left shouting that she could just work for her dad and never needed to work anyways. Sad part is, I feel bad that she genuinely was so shocked that she would lose her job for just not coming to work. She was a spoiled brat, but she didn’t do that herself.i just hope that as she gets older she will learn to adult.

The whole says of the old blood is thicker than water is " The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb" so even people who use that saying are disproving their own argument because more often than not friends do form stronger bonds than family and that saying says the same

It's so fascinating that you bring up the "blood runs thicker than water" as that's not the original saying. So originally, it was "the blood of the covenant runs thicker than the water of the womb" which essentially means that the relationships you forge are more meaningful than the ones just handed to you from birth. So the saying has been changed to literally reverse the meaning!

I know this is from a couple of years ago, but what Roly is saying about having nothing to to with family that are awful to you is so validating. I'm estranged from my family & have been for some time now. I am still told "but they are your family don't you want to work things out and maybe they have changed?" And my response is always no because I so clearly see the abuse now & I'm the cycle breaker. 💜

I feel like there's a lot of parents that think as soon as they have children, the entire world is going to cater towards that child. for example the mum that got annoyed by someone watching a gorey film, where the kid saw. the mum literally thinks the whole plane needs to cater to her & her child just because she has a kid. it's this weird phenomenon, I don't know how to describe it the best way but I see it a lot with parents.

I have to say I accidentally brought my 2 children to a wedding they weren’t invited to. The wedding invite stated mine and my husbands name only but I honestly assumed that my children were part of the deal. There was nothing on the invitation saying adult only and there were other children at the reception. It was only afterwards when it was mentioned another cousin couldn’t come as they didn’t have a babysitter and remembering that the bride gave me a funny look that I put two and two together. If I had had any idea I just wouldn’t have attended. I’m autistic so I do struggle to pick up on things that aren’t explicitly stated, that are just implied ( so if anyone thinks that it should have been obvious it absolutely wasn’t obvious to me. ) To this day I presume my cousin (as we aren’t close) must think I just brought my kids on purpose and I genuinely didn’t. Like I said I just wouldn’t have attended had I known my kids weren’t invited.

It should have stated on the invitation that it was adults only. I think a lot of people would assume the same as you did.
