I own the Tudor GMT and I’d rather have it than the Rolex without even considering price. I like the vintage matte look with smaller bezel numbers as opposed to the bold glossy finish on the Rolex. I also like the bigger case since it’s a tool watch. I also do not think a tool watch looks good with the jubilee (I love the jubilee on different models like the DateJust). Add all this to the price difference and it’s clear choice to me. Power to anyone who likes the Rolex, we all got our opinions. One love.

@@CultivatedWorld Except, my friend, for THAT dammed un-esthetic jubilee bracelet. Just RUINS the flow of the watch from the lugs to the clasp. I bought a new Tudor GMT from a Rolex/Tudor AD the last week of December 2019. The date mechanism malfunctioned in late January 2020. I sent it to the Dallas Rolex Service Center for repair. The Service Center told me defective movements with this problem cannot be repaired and that a new movement would be ordered from Switzerland and installed in my watch. I was told it could take up to four or five months for a new movement to be sent to Dallas. Three months later I got the watch back from Rolex and have not had problems since.

Careful..... There are idiots that think a 4 thousand dollar watch is perfectly fine to fail and will shame you for complaining . I believe that specifications and certifications are not that much of an issue when it comes to extremely well made Swiss watches. Both watches will run around +2/-2 anyway. Design wise the two watches are quite similar but then again so different. The price tag matters a lot. My advice is to go and try both of the watches on wrist and see which one suits you best. If you are leaning towards the ROLEX side here comes the big negative. Best case scenario 2 years in a waiting list.

I have had 2 Rolex GMT’s for years, with different bezels and dials. I was annoyed that I couldn’t dive with it, so had to bring 2 watches on some vacations- a sub and a GMT. The Tudor GMT solves that issue.

Owning both the new Root Beer GMT and the BB Chrono, I respect commenters expressing that the heft and thickness of the Tudors might be too much for them. But for me, these concerns are non-issues. To the contrary the watches look and feel more purposeful and robust given their dimensions. Put on an Omega Diver 300 or Breitling B01 Chronomat and tell me it isn’t similarly robust. My biggest problem these days is trying to pry my new GMT off my wrist- I’m smitten! Certainly the materials and techniques Rolex employs are at a level that can partly justify the higher price tags, and wait lists, but Tudor has cut a very large swath in the price point markets everywhere below its parent company. FWIW the two aforementioned Tudors keep better time (just a smidge) than my Datejust, but honestly I doubt any of us are deciding which Watch to buy based on which keeps better time…

I bought the Tudor gmt a month ago. The experience so far is fantastic. I have a 16 cm wrist and I have no problems with the theoretically bulky style nor with the weight. The rolex is undoubtedly a better looking watch but taking into account the retail price and the scarcity policy of Rolex it makes it an almost impossible watch to get and, unless you want it as an investment, a watch that might not be worth it. Thank you very much for the good review.

Just purchased mine yesterday. Was I looking for one!? No. I went in to purchase a date just Rolex. And like the elusive submariner no where to be found. This boutique was also a Tudor AD. They had put the GMT out that morning. After much debate I purchased it. Aaaaaand scratched it on the 1st day. It’s a funny thing how we think about how much we want to wear the watch and worry so much about scratches that we forget to enjoy. I agree with your philosophy. I care for my watch collection; but all have dents scrapes and scratches. Each one has a story. I hope the honeymoon lasts with this watch. Cheers!

@@TheSalsa1977 congratulations on your new Tudor. Wear it in good health. I also bought mine yesterday, while looking for the new OP41 (funny that Tudor/Rolex). I was lucky the watch literally just came in and was the first one to ever try it on. I always have this self imposed rule to bring the watch home unworn on the first day instead of wearing it out of the store for fear of scratching it on the first day. I wonder if anyone else does this
@iseeq722 жыл бұрын
I have the Tudor GMT as well, considering it the better looking watch as well. Rolex though has not a "scarcity policy", they just did not raise their output according to the insane demand on the market (they actually raised capacity the last few years, but not nearly matching the raised demand) - which is, on the long run, not a bad strategy, that will help with stable price development over time and ensuring the high quality standards which they would have possibly compromised otherwise.

Finally!!! A reviewer who understands.i was offered a gmt blro from an ad. . I went for the Tudor gmt instead. I choose watches to enjoy not as an investment opportunity to be babied. I love the blro but Rolex have lost their way. The ceramic bezel was exciting to me at first but I sold my ceramic sub after I got over the glossy finish. I want a watch that I can pass on to my children that is unique and has a story to tell . I will most likely get an 80s gmt master II next but but I want to make use of this tudor over my other watches and have a watch with its own characteristics that it’s picked up from a life of me wearing it to pass on. I’m lucky that I have access to the professional Rolexes but I think it’s a shame that it’s a privilege- tudor are the arm of Rolex that still give me the butterflies i experienced growing up, and I can’t see my self buying another new Rolex. A 1675 and a tudor milsub are the only ones I would go for now

We're glad our review resonated with you. The patina your watch picks up over time is unique and is a part of your individual story. Although Rolex has made some amazing developments ensuring their watches are much more robust, they are also much less likely to develop any patina. As amazing as these developments are, it does remove a little bit of the soul out of the watch, making it feel more sterile. An 80s GMT Master II is a good choice. I may have to copy you. 😉

If you like the looks of the Tudor over the Rolex, and one is one third the price with equal precision and quality than the other....the answer is obvious. In Rolex you are paying the advertising, the sponsorship and yes..the fame. But..honestly...Tudor factory is not going to compromise on purpose their manufacturing processes and quality just to be less expensive than Rolex. They are built exactly by the same qualified watchmen, the same machines, with the same quality and the same control standards...difference in price is just explained by marketing expenses, ridiculous hype, desire and scarcity. Twenty years from now, the Tudor GMT will be a collector’s piece just by the fact that it somehow managed to "dent the famous crown".

@CultivatedWorld4 жыл бұрын
The specifications you get for the price of the Tudor make it great value for money. Whether it is a good alternative comes down to your own personal circumstances. If you want a GMT watch and you can't afford the Rolex, then the Tudor is definitely a great alternative. The person that owns these two GMT watches decided to buy the Tudor on the fabric strap because it gives it a completely different personality and it was his way of justifying having both of these watches.

I don't like the Rolex GMT, the bezel numbers are way too large, hours markers too big, and Rolex engraved rehaut makes it look too conspicuous & flamboyant to say the least, it feels like too many things going on there - while the Tudor GMT looks much more redefined and elegant for a watch that is half the price and available at every AD.
@jrdj76864 жыл бұрын
Nice video as usual - keep up the great work. Although you touched on it, I think the date wheel issue with the Tudor is much more serious than you suggest. The problem still exists and Tudor don't seem to have resolved this or know how to stop it occurring. Although there is an international warranty as you state, having the watch fixed isn't straightforward and some owners are looking at 6-8 months turn around time. After suffering the issue myself back in May, I'm still waiting for my watch to be returned with no clear date when I may have this back because Tudor are so non committal. Research into the matter following occurrence of the fault shows that the issue is widespread, some even experiencing the problem 2 or even 3 times. The specs of the Tudor vs the cost make this a great value proposition and it is a great looking watch, however anyone buying one of these at the moment is taking a roll of the dice...

Different watches, for different buyers wanting something specific. The Rolex client wants a status symbol on his wrist, in the form of a very well made and universally recognizable timepiece. The Tudor client wants a good watch at a still sensible price.

Although the 904 is more corrosion efficient it is a ploy unfortunately as 904 scratches like hell. You will need to baby all the new Rolex’s or any watch made from 904. Corrosion is a thing if you don’t take care of your watch. This is a bit of a non-tooling watch now. Also, it is not offer 200m resistance. So you do have to be mindful even more. For the cost and wearability the Tudor has it beat in my opinion. You don’t have to baby it or worry about it being a scratch magnet.
