What is the best dive watch? Rolex Submariner and Omega SeaMaster are both classics that are linked to James Bond. Where does the Breitling SuperOcean Heritage II fit? Watch collecting is a complicated addiction but I firmly believe that Breitling has created something bodacious! What are your thoughts? #Watch #Timepiece

I agree. The Submariner has the overall best build quality, fit and finish though. The SuperOcean wins for bracelet comfort but the bracelet is a little “jingly/jangly.” All three are fantastic and timeless pieces IMO though. I’m thinking about a Tudor Pelagos next unless they unveil and Tudor Black Bay with ceramic bezel at Basel World.

The Breitling is clearly the best looking of the 3 watches. To your average non-watch person, the Breitling has the least name recognition. Considering also that the Breitling is 2-3 times less expensive than the other 2, it's a no brainer for me.

The Breitling SOH (aluminum bezel) and Breitling SOHII (ceramic bezel like mine) are both exceptional pieces. If you look on Chrono24, you’ll see how rapidly they’ve been appreciating. I don’t expect it to be a more affordable option much longer. Breitling does any incredible job with the case and overall finishing. I love this pieces but a couple of areas where it’s not king (I’m being knit-picky) is the clasp and bezel click action. Rolex wins in those two area for sure.

This is an old post but I have to add this statement the Seamus and the Super Ocean are just a few hundred dollars apart depending on the exact model the Submariner if you can get one was about $8,900 hundred at the time. Roughly 2x the other two. Both the Breitling and the Omega are the smart play money wise.

That color combo sounds great! I always research and know what I want to buy before visiting the AD. They were trying to push the SuperOcean Heritage II 44mm because “I have large wrists” but in reality they were trying to unload the less desirable size. 30mm-42mm is the best sized watch in my opinion. My only exceptions are the Panerai Luminor PAM0013 and Breitling Super Avenger.

Thanks for the comparison. I owned the same Seamaster years ago and I'm looking at the SOH with the aluminum bezel. One thing I feel is that the Superocean seems a lot dressier than the Sub or Seamaster and might not go with as many casual attires. Wondering what your thoughts are on that. Thanks again.
@IrixGuy
@IrixGuy 4 жыл бұрын
The SOH II shark mesh bracelet definitely makes it stand out and so does the shiny ceramic bezel. With that said, I’d rank them in order of “dressiness” #1 Sub #2 SOHII #3 SeaMaster I think that even 42mm is too big to look dressy. The SOH with aluminum bezel may tie #1 with Sub. Keep in mind that you can always throw it on a rubber strap to make it look more casual.

@IrixGuy
@IrixGuy 3 жыл бұрын
I think that SOHII will likely appreciate over time. I don't expect rapid appreciation like Rolex though. Both Omega and Breitling discount and that slows their appreciation. I only buy Breitling or Omega after significant haggling and an acceptable discount. Buy what you'll enjoy and wear. Don't worry about resale. I will never sell or trade any of these pieces because they're all key references.

The Breitling is soooo pretty. However: If longevity, ruggedness and overall "tooly-ness" are what you're looking for in a diver, I'd take a Sinn. They're crazily overbuilt (some are made from submarine-steel) offer useful features like an argon-filled interior and built-in silicate capsules to keep humidity out and most are highly anti-magnetic. I mean, there's a reason why German special forces units issue these watches to their field operatives. I'd probably go for the EZM 3, which is quite a bit cheaper than any of the three shown here (~€ 1,700 on a steel bracelet IIRC). Then again... if looks were more important, I'd go with the Breitling. Never liked that style of Seamaster and wouldn't want to take part in the Rolex BS that's currently going on. Having to either wait for years to get one for MSRP or pay crazy money on the grey market for a mass-produced stainless steel dive-watch is just silly... :)
@IrixGuy
@IrixGuy 4 жыл бұрын
Sinn certainly makes a great piece. I bought my Submariner 114060 before the excessive price hikes and “shortages.” It’s the best one Rolex IMO (not a huge Daytona fan). It’s crazy how Omega recently has been pricing themselves into Rolex territory and my guess is that Breitling will do the same. The addiction has become too expensive LOL

Disclaimer: I own a Breitling Super Ocean Heritage II 44 chronograph B01. Rolex Submariner: very functional, pure, hardcore dive tool watch; boring and dull looking; unreasonably overpriced due to marketing strategy; too many counterfeit causing many ordinary people query the owner having a fake one by default; really hold up the value; (overwhelmingly) excellent for investment; not a very sensible choice for watch enthusiast. Omega SeaMaster 300m: very hardcore dive watch but at the same time also aesthetically trendy, energetic, appearing and functional as well; (for the latest generation, display case back, co-axial escapement, master chronometer, etc.); reasonably priced; much more pleasing to watch enthusiast. Breitling Super Ocean Heritage II: an hybrid of dive watch and dress watch; only 200 meter water resistant and tiny luminescent indexes made it less desirable for serious diving but quite suitable for water surface activities, relatively classic and elegant look thus more utility, (sadly) the brand relatively less renowned to the public; can't hold its resale value, really needs watch enthusiast who passionate enough to appreciate it.

Is that the Heritage II B20 or Heritage II 46 - looks like the 46? Do you know much about the difference between the two?
@IrixGuy
@IrixGuy 3 жыл бұрын
I have a 7.5" wrist. This is the Breitling SuperOcean Heritage II 42mm. Unless you like "HUGE watches," I'd suggest it in 42mm. I also wear a PAM00112 44mm, Rolex 114060 40mm and several others. I've found 39mm - 42mm to be the "sweet spot" for me. With this said, my first "real piece" after the Omega SeaMaster 300m was the Breitling Super Avenger that I purchased in 2009. That was when the "HUGE watch" was the norm though. Go to an AD and try them on. I'd suggest 39-42mm range for today. That's not to say that the "HUGE watch" may not come back in fashion.

@IrixGuy 4 жыл бұрын
I actually like it! I feel that Omega's new pricing is too ambitious though. With the ceramic bezel it won't develop the patina like my classic 300m. With that said, if purchasing today, I'd haggle like a dog for ceramic. Ceramic bezels are so much better. What are your thoughts?
@TheJamesd90
@TheJamesd90 4 жыл бұрын
@@IrixGuy Well since I own it, I like it quite a bit! With the new movement and build quality put into the new watch, I think it is now very comparable to the submariner. I do worry how it will age since it won't patina (your classic model with the patina looks awesome!) but as mentioned, the sapphire crystal and ceramic virtually make make the front of the watch scratch free. In regards to Omega, you're right that they are getting ambitious with their pricing (James bond 300m model at 10k?!?!), but I feel this new 300m is priced right. TBH though I got it for about 4k from an AD so I didn't pay retail.

I agree with you the Rolex submariner bezel action is the best, I’ve never experienced a bezel action as good as the submariner. I really enjoyed turning the bezel but that’s about it. The watch annoyed me because it would lose power over night most nights and also the date would be impeded when the hand covered it. My favourite is the breitling super ocean. I don’t need to turn the bezel as I’m not a diver. However aesthetically the watch looks stunning. I have the black and gold version 44mm. I always wear big watches even though I have a 7 1/4 inch wrist. The breitling superocean is my dress watch. My favourite watch is my Zenith type 20 extra special chronograph with the el primero movement. It is the most accurate watch I have bar my breitling colt superquartz. In terms of automatic watches the zenith wins hands down and being a pilot it is also more functional for me.

For me the no. 1 is Breitling. It’s just class. Class by design, class by appearance, class because it’s not trying to be something it’s not, class because it’s not your generic style. That bezel is superb. No. 2 is the Omega, that dial is stunning. No. 3 Rolex…it could be any watch out there. Sub - best watch in the world?? Can you qualify that please? Plain, boring slab-sided case; one dimensional simplistic bracelet with a flippy floppy clasp,; machine made and decorated movement; plain undecorated case back that I would expect to find on a budget brand; dirt trap bezel and out specced by “lesser” (price point) mortals such as the Pelagos, not to mention it was not the “first” and carries so much brand baggage. If you enjoy it I hope you continue to do so but please don’t perpetuate the hype BS. It is easily the most overrated watch from the most overrated brand in the world.

Less is more and that's what makes the Submariner great. I do agree that it's hyped but the hype is justified. It's hard to trump the durability and simplicity of a no-date Sub! With this said, I would no longer be a buyer at today's market prices. I've owned the Sub for MANY years.

@ Irix Guy’s Adventure Channel - I really hope you enjoy your Sub in good health and you would of course be foolish to part with it in the current market but I still don’t see why the hype is justified. They make out that it is the best dive watch in the world and sheeple on the internet go with that as they wish to court popular opinion for their channels. Rolex is to many THE brand to have and everything they do is amazing but if you take a few steps back and take a good look at their “history” and their watches when compared to several other brands at around the same price point you come up short, very short. The sub for example was not the first and not the best (Blancpain the first and arguably the best; GO’s dive watch is better as are Omega’s offerings arguably - Omega 300m diver outspeccs every Sub that predated it for eg and has real military history). What exactly is so great about the Sub and it’s history that makes it so much better that the ridiculous hype and continued interest is justified? I am willing to learn but I just don’t see it at all. The whole thing comes off as very Emperor’s New Clothes I am afraid.

Any mechanical (with a spring) watch is not accurate enough for me! Waste of money, even Rolex!

Rolex is more precise than COSC but not even the best automatic watch will keep time as good as a $20 Timex.

Omega is the best. ORIS AQUIS trashes all three watches in looks.

I went to an Oris AD in Turks & Caicos. The watches look great but I must confess that I didn't feel that the build quality was as good as Omega, Breitling or Rolex.

@@IrixGuy the build quality is better than breitling. The movement is slightly inferior for a much better price. You're right though quality us inferior to omega and rolex in all aspects except looks but again way cheaper. Very good bang for your buck.
