Very nice review really taking in consideration real life situations. I have both of them, so for me great discovering the "floody" sky over the river with Sonnar. For years it was by consider as the best, but seeing this side by side is a whoaw. Thanx a lot.

I got a Rollie that was not working plus with body shell damage beyond repair. I took the lens off and glued it to a Leica body cap and adapted it to Sony A7ll with Techart auto focus. The image quality is very good. Thank you for sharing. I always wanted to do something like what you did with film camera. My way of thinking is why can't someone built a focal plane extender so to push the focus back a little so someone can built an adapter to fit a digital body. Just a thought.

Thank you very much. Autofocus Rollei lens! Very attractive way to enjoy broken one and I wanna have Techart AF system some day!

Wow you did such a great job! I am very surprised that the Tessar was better. (The Tessar is a Carl Zeiss design as well) I feel like the Sonnar is supposed to be better, and doubt that Rollei would have released it as the more premium model if the lens performance were actually worse than the Tessar, so I think that there might be something wrong with your one, or maybe the digital back didn't sit perfectly at the film plane but of course it is still possible that this is the case. Thanks for the video, it was very interesting!

Thank you very much for kind comment! Yes, some troubles may happen on my test and as you know, both cameras are around 50 year's old. The result is just "my" result. Tessar's sharpness on closest distance with open aperture seems better but it may not affect normal use of these nice snapshot cameras. And more, blighter lens on 35S may help many situation. Even after my test, I think Rollei 35S have worth to get with higher cost. I love both!!

My guess why Rollei 35 S had soft corners is that the digital sensor not was not sticking tight enough. Even a fraction of a millimeter makes a difference in sharpness at close ups. The corners are sharper at the lowest aperture because of greater dept of field. Lenses usually are not the best at f/22. This lens would have the best IQ around f/8 and corners would be sharp at this aperture. That's why I think the sensor got a little loose, but it's just my opinion. Nevertheless it's a great comparison. I'm very impress with your digital back. I'd love to have one.

Thank you very much for sharing your analysis! It may not fit perfectly, because it is just hand-made digital back. I enjoyed these old beautiful cameras and very happy you enjoyed!

I don't think you can make any general conclusions regarding Rollei 35T vs RolleiS, only at best regarding the examples you have in front of you. In order to really compare you would have mint examples of each camera that have been serviced, and your digital set up would be tested against a third camera as a control point. What you are showing is interesting at best, but not conclusive.
