The amusement park where the killer is running George Segal around all over the place is Kings Dominion in Doswell, VA - just when it is starting out. The park has grown since, but still has many of the iconic bits from the film, like the racing Rollercoaster Rebel Yell, the Tower and the Singing Mushrooms! Check it out when you’re here in the states!

Well with the lockdown, I doubt that’ll happen anytime soon. But it would be awesome to see.

Brilliant film. Lots of suspense, action and even moments of humour thrown in for good measure. That rollercoaster crash at the beginning was very impressive. It only lasts about a minute in the film but must have took weeks to prepare and film the crash sequence - no CGI in those days. Also fantastic locations and brilliant performances from George Segal, Timothy Bottoms and the rest of the cast. I've never understood why the villain is not actually given a character name. He's just referred to as young man throughout even in the end credits.

Hey Keith, I was blown away with Rollercoaster. A film I’d never heard off before putting it on. I think the anonymous bad guy is supposed to a cypher for an Everyman. Just a maniac that looks normal living in a suburban street.

Love "Rollercoaster" too! I have it on a Universal 4-film collection, along with "Earthquake", "Airport", and "The Hindenburg". IMO a far too underrated thriller- I believe it was released the same time as "Star Wars", in Summer of '77, and of course got eclipsed. The in-theater feature of 'Sensurround' effect was quite memorable! Enjoy your reviews and Thank you for reviewing this film 👍.

Not a problem. This was such a great find. Love everything about it. You’d think these days the film would have had a revival, be more appreciated or at least better known.

I love, love, LOVE this movie! I've loved this movie for years! Me and my dad bought it on VHS in 1997, when I was 11. I think it must have been a 20th anniversary release. Segal, Bottoms, and WIdmark are fantastic, and the score by Lalo Schifrin is so great I purchased it. I wish the the Wonderworld sequence would have been filmed, and I wish we could have more scenes with Segal and WIdmark doing more detective work and talking about their theories, like in the scene before they head to Magic Mountain, and I wish the ending would have a little more closure. Other than that, it's a great "Hitchockian" little crime thriller, akin to Dirty Harry and Bullit, with plenty of humor, suspense, and high stakes.

Well said Matt. I had never heard of this film, I really don’t know why it’s not better known. It’s a great 70’s thriller.

I was on the fence about picking this one up but I think you've swayed my decision to order this one. Next up for the Black Label is Paul Verhoeven's The Black Book (2005) I think.

I was the same when Rollercoaster was announced, if I had to choose which to watch out of the 3 so far it would be Rollercoaster every time. I’ve never seen Black Book so I’m really curious about that one.

Oh wow... I'm so happy I picked this up. I saw clips of it on TV when I was little and loved the cover at the video store as a kid. It was totally marketed as a schlocky 70s exploitation disasterpiece. I think Henry Fonda and even a young Helen Hunt is in it! Thanks for this recommendation. Lito

Both of them have small roles. There is even a young Steve Gutenberg!

Great review, Man v Film.. I saw the artwork and packaging for this on Amazon UK and read some reviews so was definitely interested ; your summary persuaded me to take the plunge but I noticed one technical warning from Amazon about the second disc : "Beware of the second extended disc as it comes with No sound - 13 September 2018 - Format: Blu-ray - Verified Purchase - The movie is an old fashioned thriller. I really enjoyed it. However be aware in the special edition of which i had a replacement copy ,the extended disc has No sound. This was on both the original and the replacement. Must be a fault on the pressing." Did you have any problem on the second disc? Agree entirely with your approach on exploring different genres and eras - there is so much out there beyond the mainstream to explore..
