Seems like the farmers over here that roll do so strictly to push down stones. Though the the other reasons that you mentioned may be extra benefits for them, but if the field isn't rocky, it doesn't get rolled. Now full disclosure, I only know a tiny fraction of the farmers here in the states, so others may do it regardless of rocks. In other words, I dunno.

Haha I don’t think any of us know really! We either do what our fathers did or we do what we think is best! Personally I can see the benefits of rolling the arable ground, not so much grassland

Oh yes Josh, the great rolling debate....... The arguments between my dad and my uncle over rolling still ring in my ears some 50 od years later and to be honest, they never did agree as the years went on! You sure will miss the team when you move on, but pleased that we will still get our dose of Jon and Dr Phil at BMP
