Few musicians had such a massive influence on the development of the guitar during the post - Jimi Hendrix era as Eddie Van Halen, who died on October 6, 2020. This video of 100 greatest guitarists of all time from Rolling Stone magazine is a celebration of rock & roll's primary expressive weapon and its greatest players, as determined by an electorate of living masters and modern disciples such as Trey Anastasio, Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys), Brian Bell (Weezer), Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple), Carl Broemel (My Morning Jacket), James Burton, Jerry Cantrell (Alice in Chains), Gary Clark Jr., Billy Corgan, Steve Cropper, Dave Davies (The Kinks), Anthony DeCurtis (Contributing editor, Rolling Stone), Tom DeLonge (Blink-182), Rick Derringer, Luther Dickinson (North Mississippi Allstars), Elliot Easton (The Cars), Melissa Etheridge, Don Felder (The Eagles), David Fricke (Senior writer, Rolling Stone), Peter Guralnick (Author), Kirk Hammett (Metallica), Albert Hammond Jr. (The Strokes), Warren Haynes (The Allman Brothers Band), Brian Hiatt (Senior writer, Rolling Stone), David Hidalgo (Los Lobos), Jim James (My Morning Jacket), Lenny Kravitz, Robby Krieger (The Doors), Jon Landau (Manager), Alex Lifeson (Rush), Nils Lofgren (The E Street Band), Mick Mars (Mötley Crüe), Doug Martsch (Built to Spill), J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.), Brian May, Mike McCready (Pearl Jam), Roger McGuinn (The Byrds), Scotty Moore, Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth), Tom Morello, Dave Mustaine (Megadeth), Brendan O’Brien (Producer), Joe Perry, Vernon Reid (Living Colour), Robbie Robertson, Rich Robinson (The Black Crowes), Carlos Santana, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Marnie Stern, Stephen Stills, Andy Summers, Mick Taylor, Susan Tedeschi, Vieux Farka Touré, Derek Trucks, Eddie Van Halen, Joe Walsh, Nancy Wilson (Heart), David Browne, Patrick Doyle, David Fricke, Will Hermes, Brian Hiatt, Alan Light, Rob Tannenbaum, and Douglas Wolk.
I also made a list of my own honorable mentions at the end of the video that I think made it to the list as if it is unlimited.
Please comment your thought of who do you think is on the list that is omitted or forgotten.
Once again, thank you for watching and please do support my channel by SUBSCRIBING, leave a comment, share and like my videos. Please do hit the notification bell so you will be notified every time I upload a new video.

About 30% of the Stones list wasn't a surprise at all, and 80% of the top wasn't either. But Hetfield listed and then you added Kirk Hammett? Where the hell is Dave Mustaine? WAAAYYYYY better player than Hammett. Both lists seem to largely favor popularity over actual talent (although I am not saying some didn't deserve to be on the list). Bonnie Raitt but no Mustaine? lol. Funny stuff.

Les Paul about Danny Gatton-"he could do anything the other guy could do, and do it better." Tommy Emmanuel plays lead, rhythm, bass and percussion at the same time while singing no less. Keith Richards and Mick Taylor's rankings should be flipped. Chet Atkins should be higher. Two Larry's missing-Carlton and Coryell. And Glen Campbell was only good enough to play on 100's of albums for Frank Sinatra, Elvis, the Beach Boys, Nat King Cole and dozens more while making over 60 albums of his own. And he couldn't even read sheet music.

There is Keith Richards on this list many amatuer players can outplay him but have they made the contribution he has. The problem with the list is it's ranking of some players The hynotic sound of Santana resonante the planet he should be in The top10

I get that it’s hard to name a top one hundred, but there are some big question marks with this list 1) More old blues men please, and the fact that Robert Johnson is at the bottom of the blues pile is ridonculous 2) Bruce Springsteen in, but no Nils Lofgren, who was the lead guitarist of the E Street band 3) Peter Green 58?! Blackmore 50?! Knopfler 44?! Guilmour 14?! These guys have been criminally underrated, but especially Green. 4) John Lennon? Really? Other than that, relatively inoffensive list😂

Would have put Steve Howe on list near the top, but certainly on it. So weird to leave off the greatest prog guitarist ever, and the guitarist who wrote the acoustic piece so many young rockers were inspired to learn to play a little classically in order to master (“The Clap”). And Jeff Buckley, whom Jimmy Page called the greatest guitarist playing in the 90s.

Has anybody heard of Canadian, Leo Kottke? He was so fast with his hands that, at times, you thought it was 2 or 3 guitarists plus a few miscellaneous musicians. He actually taught himself to play resulting in his style and sound being totally unique. He eventually got RSI and, to his credit, learnt to play traditionally so he could continue playing. Remains my favourite music to drive to. But, most important of all, great melodies.

Next time make a list of artist known for mastering the guitar only. Do not include Singer songwriters. They need their own list.

Where are Warren Haynes, Joe Bonamassa, Alvin Lee, Peter Frampton, Gary Moore and the Ladys? Don't play guitars? I don't know if is this rafting a joke or a shame. It sempre more a kind of this: how is the most knowing guitarist? Sorry but Clapton in Front of Beck?

Some great picks but it looks like you picked a bit more by popularity and not based on guitar skills playing as a whole.
