Memory Motel exists and still is open and located in Montauk Point Long Island (TheEnd) in New York with a beautiful lighthouse and town for the affluent still. The Stone's decades ago hung out there ( bar and motel nothing fancy) and used their piano and bar to hangout, play around and contemplate song's however the owner didn't like them is how the story goes and wouldn't let them play there much. This was when Andy Warhol had a place out there too and Mick was very friendly with him and went as a getaway occasionally as it wasn't so popular or touristy back then. Also it is rumored he is singing about Carly Simon who is "Hanna Honey or Baby"...who he had a brief romance with at the Memory Motel which is located a couple of blocks from the beach ( her hair all drenched in spray) before he had to return to a grueling tour down south of the USA. It's also one of the few Stones songs where Jagger & Richard's actually share the vocals more equally then ever. Definitely a classic!!! This song too makes me remember past relationships that didn't work out but in the moment of living them you thought that person was all your focus, Irreplaceable and "meant so much to me." Music is a time portal for sure... Took a chance picking this however it seems to have paid off and I'm happy bout that!

Yeah , if thats right and it's about Carly Simon, there must be a big input from Richards cos he normally sings on his own songs , may be an amalgamation ...what ever ,it's super fine

Thanks for reacting to a more obscure (except to hardcore Stones fans) Stones track from an album that was slighted by critics and some fans. However, as usual the Stones were continuing to adapt to changes in the musical times with the reggae influences on this album. That is why they are the greatest band ever---their ability to adapt musically while also staying true to their blues roots. Decades later the album now has gained greater appreciation by critics and fans.

I'm with you she has delved into The Stones in a very unusual way, taking a track from Black and Blue is a strange choice. It's not one of my favoured Stones albums but for me this is one of the best song on the album.

If I'm not mistaken it's the Gerneys inn, right ? Don't know if I spelled that correctly. I had a cousin who lived out in bellport on the island. I live on the island as well. From the same hometown as Billy Joel. But my cousin worked there. Probably in the late '70s or early '80s.

The Rolling Stones have some great slower ballad type songs. Some of my favorites are: "Ruby Tuesday", "As tears go by", "Time is on my side". One of my all time favorite Stones song is "Get off of my cloud", although not a slow one.

I loved your explanation. It is spot on. Like the song says " . . . just a memory, of a love, that used to mean so much to me ". I felt the emotion too while listening. The music is so beautiful yet it has a wistfulness in it, which adds to the lyrics. I dont know if this is remastered or if it's the cause of listening on my earphones, but I noticed all the layers of instruments in the track which I find so beautiful. The whole track :lyrics, music, feeling, add up to what is, in my opinion, a masterpiece. I also loved watching you listen to it . Thanks for playing it . Listen to You're a Fool to Cry, also on this album .

Two songs that are criminally underplayed and underreacted to by the stones. Off of goat's head soup, the song Winter. Which has a similar vibe to it as this song. And then another song, my favorite song. The song is called, Time waits For No One. Those two are a must. Time waits for no one is off of it's only rock and roll. Which is the next album after goat's head soup. And I think if I'm not mistaken. Is the studio album before this one. Take care and be well.

My truck was black and silver.she use to drive it. Her eyes are hazel. I play guitar. I lived this song. The song is genius. when you see the stones do it live it truly is art. They act it out on stage. It's about a someone who lost the love of their life and someone close to both of the subjects is comforting their best friend. Supposedly Jagger had something going with Carley Simon, and they spent some time at the actual hotel named "Memory Motel," located in Montauk Long Island.

I have a request if you would play it the band is called Badfinger and he song is |Baby Blue| the story of the band is tragic regretably but I believe if you find the live version of the song on the Kenny Rogers show you won't be disappointed since I have listened to some of the other genres you have played like Joe Cocker, Foreigner etc....they would have been the next Beatles It is believed.; They did songs like BaBY Blue, Day After Day and Without You.

They are obviously among the greatest bands of all time! And some say even better than The Beatles, The Who and others! 1st time hearing this song, and it's pretty cool! I dig their music, but not their cocky and privelaged attitude! I mention this because they wrote one of the most if not the most unselfish, real, true and humbling songs ever! The song is Time Waits For No One! Everytime I hear that song, I feel very nostalgic and so sad for all humanity, especially my family and friends! Because all moments and people are fleeting, and soon they will all just be a memory! Very deep, powerful and intense! Check it out if you can! Goodbye! Happy note! I believe we will see each other again one day soon in our own Wonderland! Just wait and see!
