What's odd is that when Kubrick cast the parts in Clockwork Orange the droogs did sort of resemble the Stones. Malcolm McDowell looked a little bit like Mick, one of the others looked like Keith, and Warren Clarke, who played Dim, was a dead ringer for Brian.

Very good video and informative ...I think on the whole its probably a good thing the stones film never happened...I honestly cannot imagine any of them, back then (other than Mick) taking direction and delivering their lines with any conviction. It would at best have been a bit of a joke for teeny fans only...like The Dave Clarke Five , Hermans Hermits etc....the Stones did not have the jolly Beatley repartee to carry a star-vehicle and it would have had to rely heavily on post-production to make it of any note...
@PAULLONDEN3 жыл бұрын
*@richard lawless* Good point .The Stones didn't had to act anyway.... They were all interesting enough charismatic characters just to observe 'au naturel' . The fact this dragged on for such a long time probably was because they did a lot in the footsteps of The Beatles. Although having a high nostalgia quotient ,the "jolly Beatly" stuff was very much of it's time and looks somewhat tiring in retrospect . Another one of the reasons Lennon unnecessarily began condemning anything 'moptop'.

Their second performance at the club was cancelled and guitarist Eric Clapton said later: “Ginger has been taking pain-killing tables for sinus trouble which developed last year. He had a couple of drinks tonight and the two reacted. A group spokesman said on Monday: “Ginger is suffering from overwork and very bad sinus trouble. He has been ordered by his doctor to rest for at least three weeks, but the trouble is stopping him. He wants to play. He will be playing up to the Christmas holidays. The Cream won’t let their fans down, and if necessary they will use a replacement drummer, so no promoters need worry about whether the group will turn up. The group’s new single “I Feel Free” and their first LP “Fresh Cream” are released tomorrow (Friday)."

In the end Andrew produced ‘ Charlie Is My Darling’ instead.
@robertweingartner20553 жыл бұрын
Andrew said the purpose of filming what came to be known as 'Charlie Is My Darling' was to get the Stones comfortable in front of cameras so when it came time to begin filming their first full-length feature film they would feel more natural. Andrew Oldham actually had no intention of releasing 'Charlie Is My Darling'. Andrew reflected on this in 2012 when he did a Q & A after a showing of the film in New York City for its first 'official' release by ABCKO Films, which I attended. Also, for years it was 'wrongfully assumed' that 'Charlie Is My Darling' was influenced by the Beatles movie 'A Hard Days Night'. When asked during the Q & A, "how much of this movie was influenced by 'A Hard Days Night'?, Andrew replied, "none of it". He then went on to say other bands were doing films as well like Gerry And The Pacemakers and the Dave Clark Five. Comparing a documentary film like 'Charlie Is My Darling' to a scripted comedy film like 'A Hard Days Night' is kind of a silly comparison.

I agree. I'm a big Godard fan too but most of his films from the late 60s and early 70s are not my cup of tea. "One Plus One" could have been much better.
