I'm 23 and have been training grappling since middle school. I'm hesitant to start training boxing or kickboxing, is striking easier to get a basic understanding of compared to grappling? Everyone seems to say so.

hey amigo, great vid as usual with your dope vibes. also, that pass out of half was beautiful with the guillotine attempt to the kimura grip. anyway, what's your gym's policy on leglocks? ive been rolling with a seasoned purple belt who is wanting to delve into the leglock world, and i think he's getting frustrated at just how vulnerable he is anytime im passing his guard, as im snatching up an easy straight ankle lock since he doesn't play DLR/X/lasso/spider/etc. ive seen in some of your past vids that you play DLR quite often, but other than that you guys have a very similar bottom game. does he just need to stop leaving his legs out there when im passing? i don't want to lose him as a training partner bc he's a great guy, a lot like you, but i also don't want to discourage him by always finding his ankle/heel/knee
@Jitsover50
@Jitsover50 Жыл бұрын
Thank you! My gym is very open with everything. I don't think anything is banned. I come from Marcelo Garcia which went by IBJJF rules. I think it was no heel hooks until brown or black. So my footlock game sucks. That being said my awareness of footlocks is much better than it used to be and I developed a pretty decent ankle lock. He clearly needs to make adjustments to his foot positioning. If I rolled with him I would only footlock him once a roll towards the end. Just to show him he needs to learn to stop it. He has to take agency over his Jiu-jitsu. I wouldn't foot lock him over and over just to win. Not to suggest that is happening with you. Great comment sir. Thank you

@@Jitsover50 thanks for the thoughtful reply my friend. I usually snatch his leg every chance I get, but I don't lock it up for the finish I let go after a few seconds, this way I make him aware that if I wanted to be mean I could have held onto it and it also lets as roll longer instead of having to reset after a serious sub attack. keep up the great work🫡

I'm almost 60 and would love to start BJJ, but am admittedly scared due to my age (and rolling against those youngsters). What are your thoughts on starting this late, yes, no, maybe? Any advice is appreciated. Btw, awesome channel, so glad I found it.
@Jitsover50
@Jitsover50 Жыл бұрын
A good question! I think it would be really tough. You would have to already have a certain level of fitness. You would also need to find a school that is somewhat sympathetic to older training partners. A school that has a lot of over 40 students who understand the fragility that comes with age. My instructor is 60. btw.
@kyle52245
@kyle52245 Жыл бұрын
I would also be selective with your training partners. White belts are always the most dangerous to roll with because they can be wild and unpredictable. If it's a decent school they should be fine with you telling people "no, I'm just going to sit this round out". Focus on drilling to get comfortable and roll with colored belts (as long as they aren't crazy competition guys). "Art of skill" is another good channel to check out

I hate it when strong guys shut down and stop moving. They're too strong to force into positions, so waiting for them to screw up in usually the easiest way to deal with them. But they can't screw up if they don't move.
@Jitsover50
@Jitsover50 Жыл бұрын
Yes but then you just contain. It is. It a win for them. In a real fight you would be punching and he would have to move.

@Jitsover50
@Jitsover50 Ай бұрын
Stay out from under them. lol. That weight difference is tough to deal with. A simple answer would be stay mobile and transitional. Don't look for closed guard if you can't get your legs around.
