Seeing that peace sign in the sky immediately brought back that parking lot memory for me. A few hours before the first show, was walking between the golf course and the stadium lot and we look up to this giant peace sign over everyone. I got a free ticket basically exactly where that girl got hers too. And the rainbow at the end while playing Brokedown Palace....whoa. What am amazing time and place....I'll never forget.

@jaiguru95386 жыл бұрын
Nothing more juvenile than a person who insists his opinion is a fact. The FACT is that it's THEIR band, and not yours or mine. That means THEY get to decide what is and is not the Grateful Dead. You don't have to like it, but you do have to live with it. Grow up, kid.

there are dead heads now whose grandparents were heads. Too bad that the culture is dead and those younger heads who get it will never get to experience how real, vibrant, microcosmic of the world, and anarchistic it was. Kids today have a romanticism version, it was violent and dangerous along with the love; again a microcosm of the world. The rainbow culture has turned to shit too. i guess every generation has that old man bitching about how great it use to be but damit it is my turn now. I toured with jerry and the boys for years and watched it decline like rome but I never thought it would get this bad. tthe scene in general not as depicted in this vid. It is now mainstream and us freaks are left looking around like ; why are all these people we have been avoiding for years everywhere on shakedown st". Again, it is my turn to rant and I dont care about its lack of coherancy, I like being all over the place. Anyway, the scene is dead and we cant hide in the woods with the rainbows because that is dead too. Im more sad today than when jerry died because as long as the culture surronding the dead lived so did a piece of him. I saw a vouge article giving advice about how one should dress on tour. Picking out a tour wardrobe is so rediculous I cant even begin to describe my disgust. We toured on dolla grill cheese and 2 dolla hits of L. And we shared it all. How do cell phone cams work on shakedown st? Do these kids film the incriminating events that go on there? This is not a " in my day it was so much better" rant.
@childrenoftheabzu7 жыл бұрын
But the fact is the culture has been assimilated into the mainstream and it is dead. Fare thee well for real, you whitewashed "deadheads". Go home the party is over. and the rest of the band is just cashing in on their legacy. It is their right to do so it just sucks as a fan to watch what has happened and is still happening and will continue to happen. wonder when the flavor of the month changes there will be enough left of our culture to put it back together again and the kids wont pick up too ,many dirty babylon habits. Even though the older heads did pick up some such as capitalism. A plant, powder, or gas or whatever substance is not a means for social advancement especially in a culture against a hierarchy based on materials. yes im looking at you nitrous mafia and the slinger kids who are just about that and not the love dancing and music
@marshgray99987 жыл бұрын
Im 17 and as much as I regret never being able to see Jerry live or be able to experience the grateful dead at an earlier time, I went to a Dead & Company concert june 20th this year annd I have to say I've never felt so accepted and free than any other time in my life. Ive always been a very shy person, always felt not safe or felt judged, but at the concert I felt free. I'm not saying it is the same as when you were young and in the heat of it, but I dont think the scene is lost. I loved it and plan on seeing them live again in the future.
@marshgray99987 жыл бұрын
I get what you're saying, I'm just saying as a younger kid in a different generation, I think I feel the same way you did when you were young. The situation migght be different, and the world is different too, but the way I felt at that concert leads me to beleive that the feeling you all loved during the grateful dead times is still alive with dead & co. Yes john mayer isnt jerry and to be honest I don't like his singing very much but he is a great successor to jerry and he is phenomenal at playing guitar. Absolutely loved the show.
@TheRedbull1017 жыл бұрын
Sorry but you're dead wrong man. I just got off this summer tour and it was my first one ever, I've been wanting to tour since I could walk being that my Dad shared his love of the Dead with me at a young age. I can tell you that from seeing the Deadheads from all over the country that in 2017, the dream is still there. Sure their may be more people that look a little more clean cut than in the past, but not everyone has to be a wook to be a true 'head'. Most of the people who you're referring to that you "avoided for years" are people who toured and then went to college and got jobs and are bringing their kids back to experience the music. Not hating on the tour life at all because I have now lived it once and it will definitely happen again, but life needs purpose and even Bobby and some of the other guys said that at some point it is good to move on from that life. Even the people who moved on though are continuing to spread the love of the music and the love of the community that the Dead created. I saw multiple people crying their eyes out on tour hearing certain songs that they haven't heard in years like 'Brokedown Palace' or 'Ripple' that touched deep down into some aspect of their life and that is a testament that the joy is still there in the music. Sure it ain't Jerr, but it's all us young heads will ever have of the music, and it's still pretty damn good. Keep an open mind and give it a chance, I think if you're anything like the old head skeptics I met on tour, you'll be very surprised! PPMD
