I ran a 2011 Rolls Royce Ghost until recently. The car had barely reached 20,000 miles when I got it. During my ownership it never missed a beat. Service costs were around £4,500 per service, but the smile factor this car gave me was priceless...

Another Rolls Royce owner had an oil leak. It was an oil line leaking. The cost from Rolls Royce for the oil lines was $11,000. Another place wanted $10,000. He found a place that replaced just the rubber hoses on the metal/rubber line and made it able to just replace the rubber lines in case it leaks in the future for $280.00.

At this point i think the stop leak seal sweller is the way to go. Also after a week if you can get to the gasket bolts it helps to give them all a snug-up, like a 1/4 turn. That’s what’s worked for me.

I will share with you what a poor white shade tree mechanic with 67 years on my feet has learned. I will pay a mechanic to do something that I feel is beyond my skill set, and if he will allow me to watch him do it, then next time. I might try it, and save some money. But, here is something else, the cars are getting more and more beyond my abilities every model year. I have started a repair, and had to pay for the car to be towed to a dealership or specialist after I couldn't finish it. So, tread carefully Bob. And Happy Motoring.

I got the same story for my 2017 Porsche Cayenne Turbo. It has a leak in the power steering pump. The car has 19,000 miles, it’s seven years old. The mechanic and the service writer said they had never seen one of these pumps fail. The vehicle has the dynamic suspension so the power steering pump runs all of that as well. A regular power steering pump is $400. Mine is $2,600. Porsche said repairs out the door are $4,500. So when I considered the pump, labor and the 2 gallons of fluid I guess it’s not terrible. The thing is, like you said I can buy a lot of power steering fluid for $4,500. I know that sounds ghetto but I’m not even getting a warning from the system telling me I’m low. There’s nothing on the ground indicating there’s a leak. I’ve had several 911s including a 2008 Turbo which is sick fast. So this is my first Porsche Cayenne. Great car, lots of room, very fast, and a great highway cruiser.

I think the Phantom will be my next car purchase. I also like learning about all your vehicles including your coach. I really like the older stainless steel Prevost coaches. Thank you for your content.

When I was 22 years old I bought a pristine '70 Mercedes C250. It had been in storage for a couple of years, but only had 22,000 miles. Within the first year it required a valve job because of the leaded to no lead gas change required by the government. The valve guides had to be replaced. But after that, no much went wrong that I couldn't fix myself. Taking cars to the dealer for service is something I only do while they're in warranty.

It's a shame that when they build a car like a Rolls-Royce, a Bentley or a Mercedes they are not built to last at least 100,000 miles with just oil changes, tire rotations and brakes. A Rolex will last for years if it's properly maintained. But, these car companies are all the same. They want you to keep coming back to the dealership and dropping a bundle.

I owned a BMW M5 it cost me $16,000 in service costs for the 4 years I owned it vs my current daily driver which is a older Honda that has cost me on average $100 per year in service for the last 4 years or so. The last Honda I owned the front brake pads lasted 10 years, the rear ones 18 years still had the original clutch with over 400,000 km on the odometer. The only cars I would own now would be Honda, Acura, Toyota or Lexus.

I have a 20 year old Merc CLK that costs me on average $1,000 a year in maintenance and a 8 year C class that costs me equally $1,500 every year, cars are simply expensive to maintain, doesn’t matter the brand or car make. Couple of ideas. I would have done the trans oil and filter change over your pit. Ive used Valvoline max life atf in many different Zf trans both Range Rovers and Vw with no issues. Its like the dealer "Fluid doesnt need changing as its filled for life". I would also start using t5 15/40 as the lighter oils with higher mileages tend to lose the fuel savings due to wear and leaks. YMMV

If you're driving a Camry, you're probably not a car guy. A car guy will go to great lengths to enjoy the experience of a vehicle. Sometimes that means adding a quart of oil every month or so to keep things going. Other times, it means phoning a friend to come help you swap an axle on on the side of the road in the middle of the night. That's what makes it fun and creates memories. What's your most memorable experience driving your Camry? Life is too short to drive boring cars.

$4,000 what size Vaseline do they give you after that screwing. Manufacturers are making it very difficult to check or replace transmission fluid with them no longer providing a transmission dip stick. A national transmission shop screwded me years ago on a rear drive Chevy. Told me it would only cost $100 to inspect the slipping trans. Next day they said it would think it was around a grand to rebuild it. Told them no thanks and would be by to give them the $100 but told me trans is apart and I told them that I only agreed to pay $100. Refused thier calls after I told them waiting for my lawyer to get back from vacation in a few days to talk with them. They came down in price for repairs three times before I agreed to it.

The transmission deal is very doable if it’s anything like the ZP HP8 on my 5 series BMW (I think they are not that different in terms of transmission)…. The other stuff… well…. I think the costs are in line with BMW also. My rule of thumb on the bmws, as well as even my Toyotas, is if it’s over 100k miles, and seeping oil, leave it the heck alone. However, if it’s burning due to a drip, or Im adding a qt, it might be time to invest in the repair. My suggestion, based on what you are saying…. I would address it. Maybe not urgently, but I would put it on the list. My guess is the stop leak wont help, but it wont hurt!
