I really appreciate project like this. I like how the timeless piece of artistic building could stand against the trial of time. Those buildings witness the era of the time and could tell the emotion for the generations to come, like me.

Excellent clip. From 5:21 through 5:32, you were very generous in showing the stairway and dancing barge location. I was literally there yesterday and we both know the stairway is a graffiti painted, garbage strewn, urine smelling area. The spot where the barge was docked is full of garbage and homeless are living right under the bridge. Greg and Audrey would be shocked. At 51 Via Margutta, Joe's place, the doors were wide open, nobody was around so I walked right in to the courtyard. I spent about ten minutes there filming every square inch of that area plus a lot of stills and pano shots. I agree, I think the spiral staircase and the interiors will filmed on a sound stage somewhere. Then it was a bustling, noisy retail commerce area. Now, veerrry exclusive hotels and shops. Sometimes I wish I could go back in time to experience Rome in that era. Now it's masses of tourists and hawkers selling scarves and selfie sticks. Love the video.
@AstonishingGlasgow6 жыл бұрын
Cheers Surferdude. When we were in Rome it was March and the river was really high. At the time I was disappointed that I couldnt get to the bottom of the staircase (shouldnt even have been on the stairs as it was roped off) but now that you have said how horrible it was it was maybe a good thing. At 51 Via Margutta I went through the open doors but there was a large group of people having a meeting in the courtyard so I only had the chance to scan the area and when I couldnt see a match for the locations outside his appartment I snuck off before I caused too much disturbance. I think I know where you are coming from about Rome. We had spent 4 days in Naples before getting the train to Rome and allthough it was rough and ready I felt Naples was a more interesting place. More chance of getting robbed or run over by a car but it had a fizz about it where Rome might have had a fizz but I probably couldnt have afforded it.

Nice job on the video and thanks for sharing! I went to Rome two months ago and it was very crowded. I was surprised to see so many beautiful buildings covered with graffiti along with the trashy streets! The graffiti and filth reminded me of Hollywood, CA. After visiting Italy, I traveled to Greece. Athens was much nicer, cleaner, and more welcoming towards tourists! Just about everything cost less in Athens as compared to Rome! The food in Athens cost less, and was just as good, if not, better! Overall, the customer service (hotels, restaurants, shops, museums) in Greece was excellent too, while it was hit and miss in Italy!
@AstonishingGlasgow5 жыл бұрын
Cheers and I agree about Rome being crowded and overpriced but I think the same can be said for any major tourist attraction. The week before we headed to Rome we were in Naples and it was a completely different experience. In Naples we got 2 fresh woodfired pizzas and drinks for 10Euro then in Rome got stiffed 16Euro for 2 cokes .

Fine video, a lot of research gone into it, but be aware that just because Audrey and Greg did something in 1953, you can't reenact it in 2021. Imitating actors and extras in the movie (or even some people in the documentary) could cost you somewhere from €1000 to €2000 in total fines: sitting on monuments, lingering on the Spanish Steps, bathing in the Trevi Fountain, ... all punishable offences; and I'm not sure about smoking in the Colosseum.
@AstonishingGlasgow3 жыл бұрын
All things you can get a fine for but if you drove a scooter wildly down a pavement in Rome like Audrey in the film nobody would notice, everybody does that anyway. :-D
@nicolemilman17953 жыл бұрын
Too bad people couldn’t just reenact the fashion and sense of style 🌹☺️

You should be able to visit most of these locations on your visit. I was there for three days after spending three in Naples. What you might need to factor in is the daylight will be shorter as its mid winter and we travelled around on the tourist bus, this might not operate on Christmas eve. Have a great time.

Good stuff. I did a scout round and found most of these locations when I was in Rome 15 years ago. Were you allowed to enter the courtyard on Via Margutta to go up to where Gregory Peck's flat was, or was it private property? The big doors were locked when I was there.
@AstonishingGlasgow6 жыл бұрын
The doors were open to the lane and we walked up to the courtyard but there was a family having lunch and it was all very awkward. I had a quick look and to be honest I couldnt see a similar scene to the film in the courtyard anyway so I wonder if that was filmed elsewhere.
@TheRowlandstone736 жыл бұрын
I noticed in another location video, the steps where Joe Bradley lends Anya the money, (with his landlord looking on from the overhead balcony), begin at the far left corner of the courtyard. Whether the flat is at the top or not, it doesn't show. I like to think it is though.. Or at least the door is anyway. I would guess the area with the winding staircase that leads up to Joe's flat is probably a studio set.

There is very little significant change except more tourists and fewer scooters. Rome is after all the eternal city, so what would you have expected?
@AstonishingGlasgow4 жыл бұрын
You say that like there was no point to the project. Its the subtle changes that make it more interesting. The fact the monuments and streets have remained the same as so many generations have passed through them is what I find interesting. How many eyes have looked at something and seen the same thing before you and how many will continue to look once you are gone.
this video was amazing. It was amazing to see a comparison of China before the Chinese Holiday and now! Really made me think! Love from India ❤❤❤
