Apopros Romance.. I believe i'm in love with Osprey games. Love their layout and book sizes, they just hit the head of the needle. So easy to navigate their books, and you never feel overwhelmed.

Purchased a lot of RPG titles from a fellow gamer. Bought the lot for the Toon RPG which he had a copy of. Part of the lot was this fine title. I now know that the shining part of the whole lot I bought was this book. Very nice game and well written and designed book. Love the British Folklore hodge podge goodness inside.

I have no idea how it plays, but I do think the British folklore angle is a good take in a crowded genre. Reminds me of Dragon Warriors, which had a dedicated following due to the folklorish atmosphere.

I have to say I found this to be a pretty weak OGL system; that's why you don't see a follow up review since I no longer invest time in putting together reviews for games I strongly dislike.

What mechanics change from the 1st-edition of the game (from Trollish Delver Games)? I realize there is another 200+ pages of 'world' material. But has the base mechanics changed from the 1st-ed (e.g. still using the Black Hack as a base)?

In a way I wish I had waited for your later caveats but before the romance had finally died they were recently selling it cheap from an English retailer. I was going to use the system for John Carter of Mars, after the late unpleasantness when I was exposed to the metalanguage of Moediphius's system. There were some very good points about that latter game, and equally some very bad ones. Not so much Dejah Thoris as Deja(h) vu. I am an old Tekumel fan, left wing beyond any alleged woke, so, a difficult thing these days. I like what Free League are doing though I had to explain to my wife that we couldn't go out for a meal since I had given all our money to Scandinavians,. I just channel Aetelred the Unready, she channels the Danelaw. Thanks for what you do.

Certainly looks interesting. Idk I actually prefer this maybe based on the setting/source material. Still it seems a simple enough system. Certainly look forward to your future review of it.

Got in early on Amazon and its saying 12th Dec. Might just be UK though.

I expected it to be the 12th as well in the States. The conflicting release dates are actually on the Osprey site so I should peek to see if they've fixed them.

How can you have a historical, Dark Age and medieval rpg based in England without including aspects of Christianity? I wanted to like this rpg so much-it was in my amazon cart until I saw what it actually contained. It looks like a just poor clone of fantasy systems- which I can already get from existing and tbh-better systems. I wish there was a gritty, crunchy historical rpg on these eras.

Already $13 on amazon. Seems like a poor attempt to rip off a D20 system. The book looks very nice, but no originality.
