There were many surprises waiting for me on the east coast, home to Zanzibar's beautiful beaches on the Indian Ocean. I decided to get on a motorcycle and cruise the beach, talking to locals in Paje, Jambiani and Bwejuu. Little did I know, I was soon to be charmed right out of my mzungu mind.

This is because the standardised dialect of Swahili is the one that is spoken in the Unguja Island of Zanzibar, it also known as Kiunguja, internationally it is recongnised as the most purest form of Kiswahili and it is the main reference point of the langauge. However Kiswahili is spoken all over Eastern and Central Africa in different dialects and we all would love it to be a unifying African language in the future.

In Mombassa, they were called ‘twilight girls’ and would always ask for you to buy them a coke. The guys selling things on the beach were aggressive and we called them ‘beach boys’. Best defense for both is to always travel with a group. Be pleasant and polite but keep moving.

what an arrogant point of view. The guys are making a living like any car dealer in the US. The "beach boys" are grown up men, often with a family. Talk politely to them and once you know them, everything will be simple and smooth. Merricans are always frightened by ordinary locals. You are the guest and they are born in this place!

@@mucsalto8377 what an ignorant point of view. Imagine, using your example of a car lot, if you stepped on the lot and fifty salesman came to you, pushing car keys in your hand and telling you that you owe $50,000. But can negotiate. Fifty car keys and every one of them saying ‘you buy! You buy! Special deal!’ And only stop when you step off the lot. I’ve talked to many Kenyans in Mombassa and Nairobi. Friendly people. I just noticed this video was broadcast on my birthday. I hope that you’re still able to travel and bring us all such great experiences that you’re having. I’m an American living in Germany for the last 25 years, and I’ve been to Africa several times. Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, and the latest trip to visit a friend’s family in Senegal. Africa is truly a beautiful place, and it’s great to see that someone is showing that to the rest of the world. The next time I go, I think I’ll make a few videos as well. I wish you all the best, and I’m looking forward to future videos. 👍🏾😉

As a Black person, the sense of freedom I’m witnessing my Brothers and Sisters walk around in is refreshing. In this country (America) we don’t have this same sense of freedom. If it’s not the cops, it’s the Karens or Kens and hostility in the workplace that NOBODY would believe you experience just because you’re Black. I really enjoy this guy and his content. Every video seems so peaceful and laidback.

You act as if you are oppressed or do you live with victim mindset since birth? You wouldn't last long in any part of Africa. When the criminals or lack of services or bribery n corruption break you, or that you are a foreigner at work (and not some brother who made it back to the mother land) you will cry for your first world privilege under the white man...
