Even besides DLC, I noticed that more and more fighting games over time just have all of the playable characters unlocked from the start (or that unlocking characters can be done by playing the game for a few minutes). I wonder if it is done because of competitive reasons; I think that many people who play competitively want to start playing as a character as soon as they can so that come tournaments they are more prepared, but some of their time is wasted if they need to unlock a character first. Not only that, but with the age of advanced internet it's easy to find out a fighting game's full roster and how to unlock its unlockable characters with a quick search via internet browser (plus with online matches if you haven't already unlocked a character chances are you will see them for the first time when playing said online matches). During the time of Tekken 3's release, the internet was not nearly as advanced as it is today. As such the most that many could do was to read magazines and talk to others about unlockable characters and features.

​@@anankos795But even then, nowadays it just feels like almost all fighting games release like 50% finished then just throw in DLC for the rest of the roster (Though to be fair paying for more characters has always been the norm for a ton of franchises, ESPECIALLY Street Fighter, but nos it feels like every franchise is doing that for some reason)
