"THE Joan Wilder?!" has lived rent free in my head since I was a kid. Alfonso Arau also plays a great character in Three Amigos, with a few more iconic lines, which is a classic goofy 80's comedy with Chevy Chase, Martin Short, and Steve Martin that definitely should go on your list

The film with Alfonso Arau they should see, albeit with him in supporting role, is The Wild Bunch by Sam Peckinpah. One of the greatest films ever made, and hugely influential to many subsequent directors of action movies.

"War of the Roses" is the must-see Douglas/Turner/DeVito collaboration. It's directed by DeVito, and Diuglas and Turner deserved Oscar nominations for their performances. It's a brilliant dark comedy.

This is the movie that saved Robert Zemekis career. He had had a couple of flops in a row and this was his last chance. Based on the success of this he got "Back to the Future", then "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", the "Back to the Future" sequels. After that he could pretty much do whatever he wanted. He was up there with Steven Spielberg. Also, Kathleen Turner had fantastic chemistry with all her romantic leads, while still being funny. Besides the sequel, she and Michael Douglas also co-starred in "The War of the Roses".

I am actually amazed that a few sequels were not made for this great movie. They just made one more. Missed opportunity, but Zemeckis got tied up in the Back to the Future trilogy and only one sequel ended up being made. I think Michael Douglas missed his calling in action adventure/thriller films. In the very few he did he is always great.

Be sure to watch the sequel THE JEWEL OF THE NILE There were talks of a third and fourth film, THE CRIMSON EAGLE and RACING THE MONSOON, but both would be shelved as of 1997, as Michael Douglas lost interest. A live action series based on the movie is in development with Gerard Butler starring and producing the project. It was originally going to be a reboot directed by Kathryn Bigelow.

Romancing the Stone was director Robert Zemeckis' very first hit movie after directing two unsuccessful comedies - the Beatlemania-themed comedy 'I Wanna Hold Your Hand' and the Kurt Russell comedy 'Used Cars.' The screenplay was written in 1979 by screenwriter Diane Thomas, and was her only completed screenplay. Thomas tragically died in a car accident the year after Romancing the Stone was released. The success of Romancing the Stone is also what allowed Robert Zemeckis to make Back to the Future, which was written in 1980 and was the film he intended to make after Used Cars.

Michael Douglas is the son of Kirk Douglas who was a huge star in the 50's and 60's. He appeared in just under 100 films in his career and lived to age 103 before passing away in 2020. A few of his more famous movies are: "Spartacus", "7 Days in May", "Ace in the Hole", and "Lust For Life" in which he portrayed Vincent Van Gogh. Fun Fact: The actress that plays Elaine (Joan's sister), is Mary Ellen Trainor, the wife of director Robert Zemeckis (1980-2000 div.). This was her first feature film. She had such charm & charisma, and was so well liked by audiences, that she was frequently featured in Robert Zemeckis & Richard Donner movies. You may recall seeing her in: The Goonies, as the mom, Mrs. Walsh. In Die Hard, as one of the news anchors. In Ghostbusters II, as one of the Brownstone birthday party moms. In Back To The Future II, although you can't see her face, she's one of the female police officers that takes 1980s Jennifer to her 2015 home. In all the Lethal Weapon movies, as Dr. Stephanie Woods. In Forrest Gump, she plays the babysitter, returning little Forrest, when Jenny got off work & Forrest meets him. In Scrooged, she plays one of the TV executives around the conference table. These are some, there are more. While most don't know her by name, they definitely recognize her. She was a fantastic character actress. One of the other KZbin reactors that I enjoy watching, Ashleigh Burton, after seeing Mary Ellen Trainor for the umpteenth time, finally exclaimed, "And there's the woman who was in EVERY 80's movie, ever made!!" Lol. Not quite, but at times it seemed like it, and I'm not mad at it; she was fantastic! Sadly, she passed away in 2015. RIP🌹

This movie NEVER gets old! My whole family loves it. I don't think a year has gone by, since 1984, that one of us hasn't piped up, out of nowhere, and said, "THE Joan Wilder?" Yes, Joan ends up being more heroine than damsel and, frankly, Jack is in peril almost as much as she is, throughout the movie. Once she gets over her initial shock of being so far out of her element, Joan is loving the adventure she's sharing with Jack. Even as she's "driving" down the river and heading for a waterfall, she's grinning ear to ear. Just another example of the 80s doing right by their heroines on the big screen.

12:43 His asking if they are _American Express Travelers checks_ was an inside joke. *Michael Douglas* used to be on a show called _The Streets of San Francisco_ with *Karl Malden.* And *Karl Malden* would quite famously go on to do _American Express Travelers checks_ commercials all the time. Their catchphrase was _"Don't leave home without 'em."_

@@stsolomon618 Took a tour of the house in Cleveland. Always knew it was downtown Cleveland shown in the opening credits but didn't know so much was filmed there. Learned a ton of cool things. The 2 that stood out was that the director refused to do a Porkys sequel unless they let him make A Christmas Story. He'd been trying for several years. Also, due to unusual Temps, all the snow was fake.

Great reaction you two to this 80s classic....they did make a sequel 'The Jewel Of The Nile' (1985) - with Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner & Danny DeVito returning.... also all 3 of them did make another movie together called 'The War Of The Roses' but it had nothing to do with the other two films (however it is also a fun watch nonetheless & definitely worth checking out 😁). Keep on keeping on with these movie reactions 😎👍

These two make such a great movie couple, I’d say watch the sequel “Jewel of The Nile and they have another movie together called “War of the Roses” that also co stars Danny Devito, great movie. A Kathleen Turner movie you must watch is “Serial Mom”, one of the funniest movies.OH, and a great Micheal Douglas movie is “A Perfect Murder” with Gwyneth Paltrow.

Like so many others in the comments, this movie and its sequel, Jewel of the Nile, were staples of my movie watching childhood!!! It is awesome that you guys are watching it. I also recommend watching the “unofficial” third movie, “War of the Roses.” It is a different story and different characters, but it is the third team up of Douglas, Turner, & DeVito and is kind of an anti-rom com. “Serial Mom” is a fun horror comedy starring Kathleen Turner and was written & directed by John Waters

I love this movie. Growing up it was an 80’s staple. And HBO played it all the time. But, it literally has everything action, adventure, comedy, romance, thrills … it’s perfect. And the score is one of a kind. The sequel isn’t as well rounded but is still a very good sequel. TBR & Samantha its time for y’all to find The Jewel Of The Nile.

Sylvester Stallone was originally gonna play Jack but according to him, during a heavy night of drinking, he called his agent to tell him to accept the movie but he got the name mixed up with another movie he was offered called Rhinestone. His agent accepted the Rhinestone offer and Stallone had to do Rhinestone instead of Romancing the Stone. Since Stallone declined last minute, Zemekis talked Michael Douglass to take the role as he was just a producer on the movie but luckily he was also a very experianced actor and had been in alot of movies/tv shows at the time and the rest is history.
