This film was a remake of the 1937 Kid Galahad film Former Welterweight Boxing Champion of the world Mushy Callaghan trained Elvis for this movie filmed in 1961. "I worked with Elvis in the training camp and advised him during actual filming of his first fights in "Kid Galahad", says Callahan, “I can truthfully say that the boy could well have made a living with his fists instead of his voice if he'd had a mind to. Actor's don't like to get hit but Elvis didn't mind a bit, I watched him get ready for the fight scenes and saw him hitting himself in the face to toughen up". No doubt Presley was not impressed with this flattery, as he said: "Show-business may be hard - but this fight game? Ugh!". For your information Elvis’s character in the movie is not a professional boxer he’s trained as one for money so just like in the Rocky films he would get battered and look awful for most of the fight scenes but then hit that killer shot and wins the fight so the bad boxing defence you see is purely intentional and in the script Elvis famously studied martial arts was a black belt in karate and was one of the first actors to portray martial arts fight moves in Hollywood films well before Bruce Lee & Chuck Norris

And coincidentally, United Artists through Associated Artists Productions distributed the original 1937 version of Kid Galahad as part of pre-1950 Warner Bros. Pictures library.

Note: The original 1937 version of Kid Galahad is now currently owned and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures through Turner Entertainment Co. (part of United Artists library under the pre-1950 Warner Bros. library), while Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures through United Artists for the 1962 remake version of Kid Galahad with Elvis Presley.

Yes this was another one of Elvis great movies. And we all know Elvis wanted more serious roles without all the singing. While he loved and was great at his concert tours I truly believe Elvis would have loved to do some serious acting roles. Although I watched some of the movie A Star is Born with Barbara Streisand and Kris Kristofferson and I didn't care for the movie at all. I loved Miss Streisand's singing and some of her other movies and I like Kristofferson as well. But I don't think that movie would've been great for Elvis myself. I can't say what would've been. But I do believe if Elvis could've been in more serious roles it would've been to his advantage. But the prescription drugs unfortunately took him on a spiral downward and bloated and ruined a great man. Why Elvis let that happen to him I'll never know. But RIP King.
