@@romaniac because from all the reasonable, believable reasons they could’ve given (corruption, banking system, interest rates, etc) they rejected us for…illegal migrants transiting Romania? Even Hungary stated that’s not true, we’re not on the Balkan route of illegal migration.😮 It’s a bit sad that many of the people interviewed didn’t know the reason invoked by Austria. NL also indirectly rejected us since we came as a package with Bulgaria and NL rejected Bulgaria.

And particularly Austria, because to them, Romania's good for illegal lumbering and installing their banks (Raiffeisen) and companies, to basically pillage and exploit the land and people, and what better way than to isolating a country and not admitting them to a free-trade zone. It is obvious that Romania is the country with the fastest growing economy in the EU, surpassing Ireland and matching China in economic growth. It is normal for a country with such a dynamic economy to create fear in countries with little innovation that could not compete with other countries like Romania and would sell less and less in those countries.

I really think that below the surface, the Austrian political and business community are nervous about the quickness of Romania's development in recent years. Take the GDP just as one macro example. At this pace Romania overcomes Austria economically in half a decade. Also, there have been A LOT of German investments in Romania, in Retail, Real Estate, healthcare, infrastructure, banking and so on and I think it's infuriating them that Austria hasn't received the same "LOVE" from the fellow German investors. Just my read. Could be totally wrong and they just didn't want the whole package with Bulgaria, as the Dutch stated.

I said to stop shrinking in the “pick me” role and to sanction those businesses in here that “avoid” the Romanian economical reality and migrate resources and capital under the protective arm of Europe’s biased laws. If one makes money in Romania they should pay taxes in Romania at the level they are in Romania just as the locals do. I don’t give a dime that there’s a mother company to the Romanian brench that helps them pay 40% in there instead of 60% in here. Just as the foreign producers don’t mind that their product has the same price here or in its home land even if in here a minimum salary is 200 euros since 1990. It’s unfair and biased. The “let’s mold Romania on our own image” is wrong!!! And it became let’s dismantle the damn thing on our liking. Cos they are gypsies. Meaning us. I’m tired of the boxes of food and social cards for the beggars. That’s a role I see as proposition and that role shouldn’t be accepted anymore. Romanians have a part of the blame for it ofc because they accepted. On the other hand if this distorted “ vision” is being pushed on Romanians since forever what the heck are the options around here? To become a shock absorbing province of the west ? I'm also angry about the Schengen issue mostly because it seems it was completely biased. All the evidence suggests that migrants enter Schengen via the Serbo-Hungarian border or the Croatian border. Immigrants don't really have any reasons to come through Romania cause we don't seem so attractive to them, plus it would mean crossing two borders to enter: Serbia -> Romania -> Schengen. And the fact that Croatia was allowed to join instead was simply a middle-finger to us. However, Austria isn't the only culprit here. There's also the Netherlands who, despite them agreeing with us entering, they're still blocking Bulgaria. Romania can't enter Schengen without Bulgaria because we share a 600 km long border on the Danube, which would be very difficult to control. I've lived my whole life in Romania and have seen the country improve a lot since then. I definitely think we should be allowed into Schengen.

Many more speak English in Austria buddy. I live in Romania and it's hard to find someone who speaks English. And if you check on Google, you'd see about 30% of Romanians know English whereas about 70% of Austrians speak it. So...

Well EU should put their things in order not to play politics , because one country rejects you and you can't get in Schengen because suddenly one of them are not happy with that. It looks like a carousel of chores when one country is selected to do the dirty job as it is its turn now in the name of the majority to look like the majority is friendly towards you. If I would be Romanian I would abort this begging for this Schengen and concentrate on other things. Then they will become suspicions and take measures.

The right to be part of Schengen was initially bundled with joining the European Union according to EU rules !!! But later the EU changed the rules during the game, imposing different conditions for accession to Schengen. It is incorrect that Romania fulfills even these additional conditions for a long time, but is still not accepted in Schengen. Notice to the candidate countries for the EU... think better if it's OK in the EU !

Romanian´s should know that he rejection of their access to Schengen is not the fault of the Austrian or Dutch people, but are the decisions of the politicians and their so called expertise and opinions. Don´t hate these countries for a few rotten apples, just question the politicians instead. I also think this is a bit of irrational fear from western European countries of what would happen to see Romania and Bulgaria getting the full Schengen access in fear that flooding season is coming the West ´´so to speak´´ That by itself is discriminatory and racist and absolutely bias. Schengen allows people from Romania and Bulgaria to see a different perspective from western EU countries how they do business and social policies so these countries can learn from them so the standards are becoming better and higher for everyone. Schengen allows to standardize poor EU countries into a rich one with better standards for everyone. And yes, Schengen can bring a lot of free trade and travel faster.

They are already there. Schengen means not showing the passport at the border checks, which is useful for transportation companies since the trucks don't have to stop hours for checks. But in airports, everyone needs to go to security checks, Schenghen citizens or non-Schengen. So, for the average Romanian, who uses the plane as a means of transportation, is not a big deal. Nothing will change. The only problem is the road borders where, when in Schengen there's no more border stops and checks which is very useful for the truck drivers because they waste a lot of time, which means they are losing money. Personally, I think Romania should stay out of Schengen until the migration crisis is solved. Otherwise, it might be attractive to illigals. I don't want see hundreds of thousands of illegal muslims in Romania.

The reasons for rejection are valid, even though it is more of a pretext. There is evidence that we do have human trafficking networks using Romania. Also, the Dinca's case from Caracal raises many questions with regards to corruption in the police institution.

The chain is not stronger than the weakest link. If you let all the smuggle and human trafficking that exists in Romania today, and if Romania enters Schengen, all of that becomes part of Schengen. Now, of course, Austria has their own reasons for rejecting us, reasons which might have something to do with wood commerce or even with Russia, but their pretext is still valid!

Romania deserves Schengen for fulfilling all the criteria and hopefully this mentality across Europe that Romanians are some sort of second class citizens that can be thrown under the bus when someone wants to gain something (looking at Austria) is slowly changing. I'm from Croatia (which eventually got accepted to Schengen) and I fully support Bulgaria and Romania accession. Austrian government behavior is absolutely shameful. Croatia managed to get into Schegen just because we had leverage power (we have an LNG terminal on Krk island which is exporting gas to Austria and Slovenia) & we adopted euro as currency.

In the European institutions, the agreed principles for voting are not respected. Romania fulfilled all the criteria for joining Schengen, but Austria opposed it because that's what the chancellor from Vienna wanted. It's exactly like the Eurovision music contest. If a country is in Schengen then there are no more border controls. Nada. So for an illegal immigrant, once you managed to get inside the first Schengen country, you can then travel to any other Schengen country at your will. Romanian citizens can go to any other EU country just with their ID, but they still have to pass border control. The issue is with freight, because trucks waiting for days at border control means a lot of money lost. I hope that answers your question.

And btw dude you got it all wrong about moving from another EU country to another EU country with or without Schengen, you don't need a passport, you only need to show your EU ID that you are from a EU country and that's it. Only thing Schengen means is that you don't need to stop at border to show your ID anymore. So only the goods transport is affected because they lose time, nothing more but time. You need a passport only if you are not from an EU country like idk... US, Canada, Australia, India, China... etc.
