As an owner of Lange & Söhne living near the epicentre of luxury watchmaking I'm very pleased to get your opinion and assessment of this brand. Frankly, I was a bid frustrated over the years to see other, less "sophisticated" high quality pieces rise in price but the pain was contained because of my principle to buy only what pleases my eye and even more so because these pieces (D-Graph rose, platinum & D-Split) are embedded within a nice collection of Patek and Rolex. I didn't know that the company decided to drastically reduce production which to me makes sense because there are not much economies of scale in this business. Watchmakers on this level (highest level) are rare so if you push for expansion there is a problem to find enough specialists. I think Lange too is on the right path and I hope this strategy will have its impact on the secondary market. In the meantime I enjoy the beauty of the pieces.

I have the Triple Split, zietwerk date, time zone and SS odysseus. I love them and they are simply works of art. I think the datograph is amazing and the Lange one is a classic. I can only see these pieces becoming more valuable down the line. I bought them for keeps and to collect. As an investment I think it will take a few years to make a significant amount. I agree with what one of the presenters said about the price of the high end. My triple split cost £137,000, they seem to be on sale on grey market for £167,000 but in terms of actually getting that for one maybe you would get £150k. I can comfortably make 10% on cash, so I don’t expect my triple split to be a good investment until many years down the line.

As far as I know Glashütte goes back to Lange and Söhne, as early Lange and Söhne where nationalized under the new name, and later started new with their original name.

„Glashütte (Original) was actually Part of Lange… Glashütte actually ended up braking part from Lange“ - that’s actually wrong because it’s the other way around. A. Lange & Söhne just like all other watch companies of Glashütte were combined into the VEB GUB (Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe) under the economical gdr plans. After the fall of the gdr the VEB GUB went to become Glashütte Original and Lange was just one of many Brand Names that were bought from the GUB by investors.

I spoke to my contact at the local Lange this morning and he assured me there is no truth to the claim the Lange is tightening production. He said it’s 100% baseless. It would be nice if this video producer can substantiate his claim because it truly affects how some of us buy watches. For someone like me who owns one Lange piece, I would be highly inclined to purchase another one asap if they truly were decreasing supply. So clearly comments like these can be worth tens of thousands of dollars…
