2000s was a great era for rom coms and comedies in general. When the culture wasn't as uptight and puritanical. People could just kick back, relax, laugh at things, and we were intelligent enough to differentiate moral standards between fictional characters in movies and real life. Thats why most films are unwatchable today. Culture has became so stagnated, all about virtue signaling and pushing politics to appease a small whiny minority.

I was just thinking of "Just Like Heaven" today. I saw it in theaters when it was released. It's actually pretty good!

A rom-com metaverse would be freaking amazing. How great was the end outtake of Valentine's Day, where Julia Roberts says to the limo driver "Big mistake. Big. Huge!"

I remember my grandmother taking me to see Mr. Deeds in theatres when it came out. I was in high school (you and I were in the same grade, even though I'm in Canada and born in 1986, long story) and I was visiting her and my grandfather with my siblings for two weeks that summer, and she decided to take me into town to the movies. I also remember watching From Justin to Kelly with a friend of mine at her cottage one summer. I had a huge crush on her at the time, it was a movie she really liked, and that's what she wanted to watch on DVD. This was sometime between 2006 and 2012, as after that we both became busy and we weren't able to coordinate our visits to the cottage (my grandparents's cottage was on the same side of the lake as her family's was). It was a bad movie for sure, but, it was worth watching just to spend time with my friend.

One of my favorite 90s movies “Reality bites” starring my beloved Winona Ryder Ethan hawke Janine garrufolo Ben stiller and Steve zahn! A very fantastic but overlooked rom com coming of age gem with a stellar cast! The sound track and fashion are incredible

Robots (2005) is my comfort movie. I was almost nine years old when the movie came out and actually bought the movie on DVD. That movie is where I heard Chingy's "Right Thurr".

It’s weird cause I never saw this as a romantic comedy but I guess it is lmao I just loved it cause of the character development between the two girls.

@@SocialExperiment232getting old is suddenly being as invested in the parents’ stories as you are in the main characters’ stories 🤣 but I think even as a kid I was invested in Elizabeth James and Nick Parker because come on!? How could you not? Haha

@@jennaabarclay that’s how you know I was a kid last time I watched it! The parents were just this “old” couple to me 🤣 I just vividly remember the pranks they played on each other and reeeeaaaalllyyy not wanting the dad to pick the evil step mom cause God that woman did a great job at making the audience hate her 😆 time for a rewatch!!!

Does anyone else remember the movie that had Julia Stiles and Freddie Prinze Jr. ? I think it was called Down to You.

Absolutely agree and if I was a content creator I would have made this video myself. And I'll go further to say I think this toxic dating culture could use some rom-coms. The earlier ones to me showcased real love, not lust, hook ups and ghosting like we see today. I feel sorry for single people today. It's a terrible world out there.

It does feel like rom coms could be making a bit of a comeback. The amazon prime movie that dropped last year, with JLo, Jennifer Coolidge and Josh Duhamel was really cute. I didn't hate it. The problem with a traditional rom com, is the toxcicity of the formula they tend to follow. Push pull, drama, where all is forgiven with a grand gesture. Gen Z ain't havning none of it, and as fully formed adults, unless there's nostalic love involved, our generations are over it too.

So true! They’re going to have to find a way to rework the relationship story formulas because I agree they are often very toxic. A few modern ones have found ways to do it differently so it will be interesting to see.

Freddie Prinze Jr was the hottest actor in 1999❤. Adrian Grenier from Drive Me Crazy and Entourage is the hottest though. Those blue eyes and curly dark hair remind me of a guy I dated for a short time. So hot. It was the first time I heard “Drive Me Crazy” by Britney Spears. Her music video for that song was made for that movie and Melissa Joan Hart and Adrien Grenier had cameos. Also, the 2001 rom com Serendipity with Kate Beckinsale and John Cusack inspired me to get the word “serendipity” tattooed on my inner right wrist in 2011.

The 90s and 2000s is the rom com decade. Which is why I would get so disappointed that real life romance is not like what is on screen. I do think rom coms is getting back since Bridgerton is massively successful now. Except this time in season 3 they have a plus size women as the main love interest. Whereas in the 90s and 2000s being the typical skinny girl was the way to attract a man, in these movies. I think why their is a lack of romance genre is because romance is no longer a thing, most guys are just stuck on their phones to talk.
